That one screwed Clemson as Zion was never coming here as Cal doesn't mess around with buying players and Zion was for sure bought. But yes your point is correct. That was another rare case of a recruitment not looking like what it ended up being.
That's not really how that works . If he ends up at UW however highly unlikely it was a last minute thing as literally everyone in the business and every associated with UK seems to know Mcdaniels committed to UK some time ago. I don't think those rumors came from nowhere . IMO if a kid is a lock to a place for months like he has been for UK and then less then 2 days before you sign you make intrigue then UW is the smoke screen unless he just lied to the coaches . Which is plausible.
I just want to clarify.

So yeah, piss on the spin if we don't land him. Cal needs elite wing forwards and Jaden helps cure his historic woes in that department. Not landing this kid would be a brutal blow to our title chances next year and Cal's greater plan of showcasing more "positionless" wing forwards than just Kevin Knox on the recruiting trail.
6'10" guys with NBA guard skills don't become a "meh" if you strike out this late in the game.

Why would people fire shots? So all these media guys who were saying the same..obviously you had some good info. 2 guys change to ??? (not changing school selection) and everyone loses it and starts firing shots. When things get crazy...stick with what you heard. If you are wrong...no big deal. It's obvious you weren't alone in what you heard/have consistently shared for a few months....while everyone had written McDaniels off. Maybe you have a history with some posters but really don't get the animosity around here at times..it's just odd.
It's recruiting. If you have a teenager at home, you know how often they change their minds. Now imagine that teenager with people who are telling them what to do....aka "advising" and when you wait this late, the pressure mounts for 2 reasons--1 it's closer to having to actually move onto next level, and secondly,you get more more attention from media as others have decided already.
It'll all be over soon and hope it ends up going UK's way.
I can't seen how anyone could get mad with Jaden if he picks another school beside UK. That won't be the issue for me. What will be the issue are the naive fans who will try to downplay it if it happens. Stuff like, "We're spoiled; we still have the #1 class; we have more than enough talent; UK is bigger than any one player; etc."
If we've learned anything over the years, it's that you need as much talent as possible and that every ounce of higher level skill ability matters in March. If Jaden doesn't pick UK, I will make it my summer goal to contest the posters at every intersect who downplay not getting him. I'm tired of the whole "we don't need this kid" mantra from the same tired silly fans on this board. It's proven untrue time and again when one missing piece was the difference in a Final Four or an earlier exit.
Getting Jaden puts us in the driver's seat next season. This recruitment is enormously important.
