Why do you care so much that others are “miserable?” Other than insecurity, I don’t understand getting worked up at other posters’ cynicism.I wish you'd just be a Florida State fan again. You weren't nearly as sad.

But Cal is a different animal. He set a high bar. Tubs couldn’t handle the pressure here and half of his seasons resulted in an elite 8.
Personally I think he failed to realize that he couldn’t compete with Nike and corrupt college practices while playing clean. He probably felt like he had done enough to sit back and they’d just come to him after hearing his pitch about Wall, AD, and Cuz. It just didn’t happen and he adjusted too late.
Cal loves being the gateway to the NBA. If he doesn’t win another, I’ll always think it was because he was content with the connections he made and wasn’t the same competitor.
Maybe it’s just me, but i really don’t want a UK coach who doesn’t try to bring in the best players he can.
I grade cal on the results of his time he’s been here, and it’s pretty damned impressive.
I look forward to next year, once again.
Vanderbilt can't shoot a lick, not even a free throw, I'd take EJ.Vanderbilt if healthy
I think this is spot on.I’ve said it before, but I think he rubbed some powerful people the wrong way when he spurned the Cavs in 2014.
And yes, I think he thought he had built his brand up enough to pull off whatever he wanted to. He miscalculated. No pun intended.
The Tubby stuff...that’s a whole other website worth of discussion. So many people hated the Tubby years, but he had us at the top of the country 5-6 years into his tenure. He did it the way a lot of people want Cal to do it now...a few decent players who stick around, role players who never leave.
Am I saying that’s good or bad? I’m saying some people will never be happy no matter what.
I understand people longing for a return to the glory days. It isn’t coming. Maybe the end of OAD will stabilize it a bit. But maybe not. The money is filthy and everybody wants their piece as fast as they can get it.
You think Joe B. would retire in his 50s today to go work in a bank? He would still be coaching if this wave had hit earlier. Look at K and Jimmy B. and the rest of them refusing to lay down. I’m expecting them to dig John Wooden up and roll him out to midcourt any day now.
I don't get it? You think EJ is a shooter?Vanderbilt can't shoot a lick, not even a free throw, I'd take EJ.
No, but he is better than was Vanderbilt.I don't get it? You think EJ is a shooter?
??? I like Vanderbilt's game moreNo, but he is better than was Vanderbilt.
Taking a new roster to regional championship game is an achievement? Hahaha what would happen if we had relatively normal roster turnover? Talent only takes you so far. Elite 8 is about the ceiling after that you need returning contributors to win a championship. Forget it we’ve become OAD U for fringe nba players and we have become elite 8 U for results. The cal cult is happy with that but I’m going to tell you a couple more seasons like this and the backlash will out number the cal cult. It’s growing every year since 2015. Remember what happened after 8 years of tubby not making a ff?? It’s going to be far worse bc the cal can do no wrong crowd is a nasty group.
I like cal don’t get me wrong but I don’t take his word or what he does hook line and sinker and I’m not going to drink the kool aid. The people who are most concerned don’t post on message forums and they have held their tongue publicly but this continues and there is going to be a reckoning. The cal can do no wrong crowd is dwindelling but their voices are the loudest.

Titles account for 60-70%. I would rather have 3 titles and 3 final fours and get knocked out the first weekend the other years over the last 10!years than the results we ve had. How about you?
I am very happy with Cal. Tubby had 1 title in ten years but that title was his first year with Pitino's players. Not much after that. Then Billy G was a total disaster.Titles account for 60-70%. It’s a good way to look at it.So basically you'd rather have higher highs and lower lows.
I get that but I don't know if that's really a good way of having success. I mean yeah sure if the titles came you'd take it I guess, but if you don't have a good team every year, I question whether those three titles actually come.
I’m super excited because I stopped caring about Final Fours and Championships. I just care about NBA Draft picks and other guys just hanging out for a little bit here and then bouncing. That way I can trash talk other programs that we beat them in NBA players.
It’s about the players and them getting some cash on their way before they bounce around the G-League and 10-day NBA contracts. It’s selfish of you all to care about Kentucky success instead of these guys you got to see for six months before they joined the Idaho River Rats.
Nova really good last year? It’s a good way to look at it.
Right now Nova is the model. Flame outs in the tourney, but closing the deal when they get there.
No, just saying if you go with greater highs and lower lows than Nova is the model. Even their lows they make the tournament and are a top 20-25 team. It’s the alternative to UK in how to build a roster.Nova really good last year?
Nova has 2 titles in the last 4 years. But as it currently stands Nova has 1 title in this era.........just like we do.
So if it's a choice between 3 titles and a couple of bad seasons to go with that or what UK has done I understand where people are coming from.
But currently it's 1 title vs 1 title. And if that's the case I"m taking UK's run every single time with the multiple final fours / elite 8s
Nova has 2 titles in the last 4 years.
I get your point though. I don’t know what the right approach is anymore.I realized that after I typed it lol.
I get your point though. I don’t know what the right approach is anymore.
I've always thought there was no correct approach.
I don't think there's a specific blueprint for this.
I guess to me the biggest thing is before the tournament u can usually pick eight teams that have a shot at winning. You want to be one of those eight teams as many years as you possibly can. Cause there's a ton of luck in a one and done tournament.
In 2017 we could look at the result at say meh elite 8. But we lost to the eventual champion. We were one possession away from knocking them off.
2019.........OT. But lost to team that almost didn't even make it out of the first round. What if they lost that game......we face UNC prob? Who knows......maybe we win that game.
There's two things u need to win titles.........first u have to have the talented obviously and that accounts for the big part of it but somewhere along the way u have to be lucky as well..........we just weren't in 17 and 19.
18 we just wasn't good enough but I think everyone knew that.

236 players declared last year.
Over 100 already this year.
So yeah, we are seeing 50. Way more than 50.
Nice try though. Another sparkling take.
You have absolutely no idea what the F you are talking about brother Lol...
Lucky for Cal freak of nature Anthony Davis came along once in his 10 years. Supported by the best 2 returning sophomores he's ever had at one time while at UK, Jones and Lamb. Oh yeah, a Kentucky kid that a drunk recruited for him. All sorts of off-normal things fell into place that year.I am very happy with Cal. listen genius, the number i chose out of thin air was basically saying why aren't we seeing and hearing about like what you said, a hundred or "hundreds". are you this serious when you sleep? wow. take a break man.
Cal has had the right combination, I think, in several of the years. Not as many lately but even in 2017 he had the combo of stud frosh and skilled returnees. You can argue that team needed the returnees to be just a bit better. But 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017 had the right formula.Lucky for Cal freak of nature Anthony Davis came along once in his 10 years. Another FF and Tubby is probably viewed a bit differently. I thought the Rondo,Crawford, Bradley, Morris class would get him over the hump.Tubby's major issue was that he needed to recruit at a Michigan State level, and he couldn't even do that 50-60% of the time.
His recruiting classes varied from about 30% very good to 30% decent to about 40% sub-par.
It was that last 40% that did him in.

EJ will be a star in 4 years. His upside is Skal like.
Most knew he was gone when Cal got the grad transfer. I'm happy for him, he is leaving based on potential, thanks for the E8 EJ!
Um...we are? You aren’t making any sense. Shocker.
