So what kind of kids do you suggest that Cal recruits ? If you’re recruiting 5 star type talent the NBA recruiting makes way more sense than selling them on the experience of playing for the big blue . These top recruits couldn’t care less about the tradition of these big schools

Cal has done a great job. No doubt about it.

The last 10 years have been tremendous.

My statements today were of the program going forward. Today.

All of our Final-4 teams under Cal featured top 3-5 recruits. We’ve had 1 top 3-5 dude since 2015, and zero Final-4’s. (Skal). So we’re not landing the elite of elite players anymore, and that’s fine. As recruiting shifted, we found ourselves landing middle to lower end 5 star dudes, and a few 4 star dudes. That was fine, and our plan was to bring some of these guys back. And we have brought a few back, but at the end of the day, our roster turnover is no different than when we were landing the truely elite 5 star freshman. Now we’ve gone 4 years straight without reaching the Final-4. There is a direct correlation with that stat and our drop in recruiting. No top 3-5 dudes, no Final-4’s. And now that I’ve seen the same trend every season where we lose 80-90% of the scoring from our roster, I’ve seen enough to believe we are not winning another title without having solid upperclassman, and/or truely elite Freshman.

Cal's works way more than it doesn't. The tourney is the epitome of randomness. Most un reasonable way to crown a champ. It's really hard to do. I'll take my chances with Cal at UK any day of the week.

2018 was kind of a mess, but we’ve mostly been pretty good otherwise. And even that roster was loaded on paper. Shai was better than expected but Vanderbilt barely played, and Diallo didn’t pan out. But if a team like that every 5 years is our bad team, I can live with it.

It’s random to a point but the same teams keep winning. Before, this year, the last two times we got a new champ was 2006 and 1999. Since Florida’s back to back titles, we have had

I do not pretend to care about these guys in the NBA. I don’t care how much wealth they’re going to get just like I don’t care about my neighbor getting a promotion. You come here and “add to the wall”, it’s pretty easy to celebrate you. It’s a quid pro quo relationship.

You come and bust your *** and help the program add to it’s tradition and help obtain the goals, that’s awesome. You come and add nothing and then split after less than a year on campus despite not even being a lottery pick then I see no reason to act like we should care about them as some “lovable Wildcat.”

The NCAA is a sht show. You’ve got Roy keeping his titles, K giving players houses, Wade back at LSU, Miller still at Arizona. Forgive me for not caring.

Pitino won a few titles even though one of them was taken from the program (I’m cool with that), but Pitino took 3 programs to the final four and won a few titles, just speaking of floor results. And he did it while being in and out of the NBA. Cal isn’t quite on his level yet.

I’m just saying, selective enforcement aside. It’s too hard to distinguish between these guys and I’m sick of having to add asterisks next to their names when I’m discussing these things because honestly, I don’t know who’s clean anymore. And if they’re all doing it then it’s all even in reality. Even though I’m glad Louisville got dismantled. Rick only has his time at UK now.

Cals name is closer to Izzo than the guys I named. Just for historical significance, it concerns me because Cals name is easily capable of being closer to Coach K or Roy Williams than Tom Izzo or Bill Self.

Kentucky fans, even from pumpers, will not decide the way he’s seen in history. We can try and force him to a goat status, but we will never set the record. That’s done by sports historians, sport writers, the media, and how your rivals view and respect you. And those people are ready to call Cals entire era a big underachievement.

So that concerns me. His name as far as a coach is at least as good as a Pitino or Williams, and I want to see him have it. A lot of coaches have won a title. The GOAT tier starts at two.
