I'll remind you the MM/TNT deal is 10.8 billion alone.

Name 1 player in college basketball that contributed to that deal. Name a Sophomore. Name Junior. Name a Senior. Name a 5th year Senior. Name a 6th year Senior. None. Should we go back and pay the ones that are actually responsible? I'd be okay with that. Oh, but we'd have to go back and pay the ones before them too.

Just because it isn't a typical 9-5 job, doesn't mean it's not a job. He does a service in exchange for goods. That's a job.
I have a family member who clears a quarter of a million a year as an influencer on social media. That's her job. It's an unusual job, but it's still her job.

An influencer? How can I get a cake job like that?

So the 9th guy on the Abilene Christian bench deserves a cut? Same as PJ? Who decides who gets what? How do you make it equitable? PJ has generated more revenue than that kid 1000x over but who ultimately decides who and why someone gets more than another?

Appreciate your opportunity and move on. If you’re good enough to earn a professional NBA contract the go forth and earn, if you’re not then appreciate your free 4 year college degree and it’s trappings and the open door to the next phase of your professional life.
Yes. The player "stardom " would come into effect with things like Jersey sales, autograph sessions, shoe deals, etc.

Doesn't seem like you know how collective bargaining works, bud. All rookies in pro sports follow the agreement before them and benefit although they were not there when the agreement was made. The NBA's players get 50% of the revenue. All of them not Just lebron or the 10yr vets.

But all players don't make the same amount of money. Should Johnnie David make as much as Zion? Nooooooo

None of what you typed has anything to do with anything. You want to give these kids part of a 10.8 billion contract that they had absolutely no part in helping the NCAA obtain. Maybe we can pay them the proceeds from the conference tournaments. We can give them money from the ticket sales.
No players = no NCAA tournament. Not sure why that is hard for you to grasp. The 14 year contract is based on that 14YR span INCLUDING every player in that span. The NBA revenue/ contracts were made off the backs of past players with the promise of the future players bringing the same entertainment value. All the young players in the NBA are getting that same revenue although they took no part in making it.

Again, the popular players also benefit from Jersey sales, endorsements, etc JUST LIKE THE NBA. But the REVENUE is shared EQUALLY (also like the nba). just like the damn NBA revenue is shared equally. Lebron gets the same REVENUE check amount as Javale McGee. This is basic knowledge.

Not sure what is hard for you to grasp. That. contract. was. signed. in. 2010. No college player had any part in what made that contract happen. So now you want to pay them for other people's work. Hell yea Id want a piece of 10 billion I had no part in helping anyone earn.

My job gives me benefits that a lot of other workers don't get (tsp, money for school/ housing, healthcare , 2.5 days/ month vacation, etc)don't make it ok not to Pay me.

When I was16 I worked at McDonald's, they gave me free lunch, guess what they still gave me a freaking paycheck. Your rebuttal is stupid, Pay these kids.
I didn't get a free education, free food or anything else given to me in college. I played ball damn near every day too. They are playing a game, they are not "working"

The problem is there is no way to implement this. If you pay some players you have to pay them all equally and won’t be able to pay the top guys what they are worth. Even if you let them make money on their likeness guess who is gonna have the most jersey sales and ads etc. guys who go to the blue bloods. You are a booster and want a good team? Promise top recruits crazy money for their likeness. You would lose any semblance of parity

Players only receive a check when their salaries combined are not equal to revenue sharing. Therefore each player gets what they are worth in the market dip wad.

Revenue sharing is not part of their basketball related income.. dip wad.

Since individual salaries are negotiated before the season starts (in many cases years before), and BRI is not determined until the season concludes, there are mechanisms in place to adjust when salaries miss their target. If the players receive less than their guaranteed share of BRI, the league cuts a check to the players association for the difference, and this amount is distributed to the players (this happened in 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17, under the 2011 CBA). The escrow system adjusts the players' salaries when they earn more than their guaranteed share (see question number 16). An additional benefits pool is funded with 1% of BRI, which comes out of the players' share. This pool is used to fund various benefits and annuities for players who have vested. If there is an escrow overage (see question number 16) and the escrow fund is not large enough to bring salaries and benefits down to the players' designated share, they take the remainder out of this pool.

I am working BY CHOICE, nobody is forcing me to go out and work neither. I'd venture to say those kids spend more time on basketball related "work" than they spend attending "school classes". Hell I bet they spend more time on sports than they would a part time job.

There's plenty of money in NCAA sports, the sham of these kids still not getting paid in 2019 is sad. PJ Washington loves UK, no reason he can't/ shouldn't Get paid 6-7 figures playing here.
Serious question, how old are you?

Then let the college players strike for the sake of all the Saints already. We heard from a college player's association yet, pissing and moaning about their lack of rewards? No. All you hear about is external conjecture from fans and now and again media sources attempting to impose some form of moral ideology on college players that you have NO IDEA if they even want. If the working body is in need of better conditions it is a general truth that they will always be heard from. What right do you have to impose changes on their conditions? You are like a corrupt, liberal politician. Corrupt in that it is wrong to believe you have a right through any process of perceived moral superiority to determine what needs are best for others.

Problem with making money off of likeness is school 1 has a booster that says, hey if you come to my school and you autograph me a jersey, i will give you 100,000 dollars. I think it would completely ruin the college game.

Anyone that thinks just saying “pay the players” is the final word hasnt thought about all of the complexities and consequences. Its a hard issue of which i havent heard a great plan for. Would love to hear one.

With all due respect, that is fantasy. If all these players quit at once (which wouldn't happen, but for the sake of argument say they did), then they would be replaced by ppl who just want to play the game, for the love of the game. And they would do it w-out demanding (extorting) a piece of the action. That is the free market. Remember, you are not always paid what you are worth, but what it would take to replace you, esp if the labor force is being "replaced" almost every single season. Is it all fair? No, but life isn't fair and if they think they are being treated unfairly, they are free to walk away. They can live in the real world w the rest of us. Jmo.

Final word is this: if a college athlete has changed his mind about the fair trade agreement he made with his University, in that he has decided that a scholarship is not a fair swap for his efforts, he should quit. Repeat Final Word... He.Should.Quit.

He can stay in school and go to his classes. In fact, good news is he might even have time for additional classes. But he has to pay the cost of tuition and all other normal expenses. Live in the ordinary dorms. No comfy Lodge.

That's part of the problem. These kids are essentially underpaid employees that help firms generate billions of dollars and they see none of that. Not even from anything that is from their likeness or features them.
Student-Athletes get, what, a fraction of a percentage of that money in "free" education?
Other students that want to go pro in something else are allowed to paid for a job while also having a scholarship.

They also get top notch health care, they get trips around the country and beyond as well. Most ppl work hard in life and don't get a trip to Atlantis every 2-3 years. Or Hawaii, etc. They don't get the best facilities, trainers, etc. BL ... if the deal is so unfair, then they can walk away.

They are not employees in any way. That has been ruled on myriad times. Courts always say the same thing, they DO NOT meet the requirements to be an employee, so that is your first mistake and @HoldMyBeer repeated mistake.

All "kids" aren't the same. For the majority, a scholarship and all that come with it is plenty compensation though it's not nearly enough for the Zion and Anthony Davis's of the college world.

I worked at McDonalds on New Circle Road when I was a UK student. The cheap owner didn't give us free meals.. Not a single french fry. All of the employees brought their own lunch. Times have changed at McDonald's.

The difference is they are playing a sport for fun. That's not a job. Your rebuttal is dumb and ignorant of the facts. Just because a corporation makes millions doesn't give you the right to more money. They choose to go to school and play basketball to represent the university. This is not pro sports. They have the option to get paid to play basketball overseas or g league.

They could work at McDonalds and make what they are given now and the ones on football scholarships risk permanent injury to brains and knees.
The schools are taking advantage of a cohort of society that is mainly poor minority males. The schools do provide the forum for the kids to perform . A fifty fifty split of all profits would be more equitable plus allowing individual players to receive a fifty fifty split on the royalties for jerseys sold with their name or image on it .

They ARE working. Playing basketball is their job while being in school. If they stop playing, they don't go to school anymore. Their job has a lot of extra perks that a lot of others don't get. Playing basketball at a high level in exchange for an education, and other perks is still a job.

They are not employees. The courts have ruled on this.
