I've seen just about every Houston game this year- my wife went to U of H and we lived in Houston for about 10 years, right near Rice Village and Herman Park, so I keep up with them as much as I can. I'll say that I certainly don't miss living in Houston, might have been better when I was younger maybe but in my mid-50s, I'm glad I don't live there anymore.
1. Robinson is their PG. He is a small, tough, quick PG. Not a huge scoring threat, can't really shoot, but defends his balls off.
2. Corey Davis is their best player. Great shooter. But he's undersized. Only 6'1. Our length can definitely give him issues.
3. Armoni Brooks is the opposite of Keldon Johnson. He wants to float around the perimeter, he's a great shooter, but rarely drives it in. He likes 3s and pullup jumpers. The idea of taking into the teeth of the defense like KJ does isn't something that appeals to him.
4. Fabian White is kind of just a solid 4 man. He rebounds, he'll make putbacks, and the occasional 15 foot jumper. Has a few solid post moves. PJ would give him a lot of trouble.
5. Breon Brady is a strong, physical 5 man. Also a little undersized (6'7 or so, although I think they list him bigger) but he uses his weight well. He gets in foul trouble a lot.
6. DeJon Jerrau is the player off the bench that worries me. A 6'3 or 6'4 PG, he's longggg and wiry, likes to get to the rim. Can't really shoot it. Hagans should be able to keep him under control.
Those are their top 6 guys. Some intangibles:
- They trap the post whenever someone throws it down there. Gotta figure out what to do about that.
- They are an EXCELLENT rebounding team. Rebounding will be what wins/losses us this game. Our size and length should certainly help, but we have to be tougher than them.
- They like to get out and run- Davis and Brooks run hard and just want a bunch of 3s in transition.
- They are a very good defensive team. This will be a slow, grind it out game. They're going to make it tough for us on the offensive end, and there's no doubt we'll do the same to them. We have to get to the FT line more than they do, and we have to get offensive rebounds and putbacks. The team that does those 2 things better will win.
