Interesting that the article tries to lay out the argument that black folks are fans of Dook because of the program, Coach K and whatever else you want to throw out there. When, in fact all of that newfound popularity among the black community seems to coincide suspiciously with K's decision to start recruiting OAD's.
No different at Dook than it is at UNCheat or Kentucky. These programs are the waystops on the road to the NBA. If the age limit on players being allowed to jump to the NBA goes away, so will much of the following. When the elite of the elite stop opting to go to college will Dook's newfound popularity among the black community survive?

And it is a pretty terrible article.
The sub-heading could have read...
"Look at us, we're popular with the black community finally. Yay us!"

ESPN is just garbage now. Clickbait trash. Very little substance.

Slob over Zion Lebron. Rinse and repeat .

I still don’t know how, in today’s world, K gets a pass on the fact that he openly and obviously recruits white players even when he’s able to recruit the top 10 so effectively, and there aren’t many white kids there.

He’s got 3 top 10 picks this year, to go along with a few unknown white kids from wherever.

He’s the only guy who can walk into a gym of 100 black guys and pull the top 3, while somehow finding 2 hidden white guys that “fit” his “system”.

For years the excuse was “It’s Duke, academics, system”. Now that they have worse academic standards than anyone, what’s the excuse? He’s still doing it.

I have no problems with a team full of white dudes. White guys bring their own elements just like anyone else. But in this day and age, how does he, of all people, get away will it? And why do black people seem to totally overlook it? Just seems weird given the ways of the country today.

If Kentucky had as many white guys year in and year out as Duke, it would be a topic of conversation on ESPN. I can see it now, “is there a racial element to Kentucky’s whiteness”

Or did K really believe Jack White, Baker, and O’conell fit in perfectly with Zion, Bagley, Barrett, and Carter?

K prefers the image. I just wonder why people of today overlook that but can’t overlook a white guy eating a taco?

Two things I take from this:

1. Maybe I am old and not connected to today’s pop culture but I had NO CLUE there was a haircut named “Duke Starting 5” ... odd.

2. Quinn Cook basically admitted that Coach K teaches flopping but players are allowed to add their own flair to it. Haha a quote from the article:

“I think in the basketball community, it just looks like — I don’t want to say ‘corny,’ it’s just different. But coach lets you add your flair to it, add your little swagger, your team swagger.”

Yes, Quinn, you can say it. Flopping is corny and it has ruined college basketball.

Just adds yet another reason for me to hate and despise that **** program. Been saying it for four years now. UK was never going to win in 2015. They were never going to allow it. Make no mistake about it, duke was handed that national title in 2015. Nobody can ever convince me otherwise. Plain as day to see, IMO.

That was pathetic. Truly pitiful. So much lackluster bs in that. That article basically says K started allowing certain types of blacks to come to Duke when he realized it would help him win basketball games in a changing landscape. That is to be celebrated? I mean it's like saying that the house boy can sit at the table in the big house now to show the forward thinking dinner guests that they let the slaves eat. I can't even fathom all the fallacy there. It's too much, that actually made me angry. I hope every black person that reads that emails Jesse Washington and sends him a copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin.

"Hello fellow colored people!" --apologies to Steve Buscemi.

Ps. To those offended by my use of the phrase "colored people" it's called satire. Now, off you pop.

"This history casts a different light on the perception of Duke as a “white” school — especially since we now know that Georgetown sold 272 slaves in 1838 to ensure its survival.

“When I talk to my friends and start pulling all this history up, it’s a hard reality for them to face,” 9th Wonder said. “They’re like, ‘The black person in me should have been rooting for Duke all along.’ ”

White nationalists are finding new and creative ways to be outraged.
