Ok go ahead and start bashing me with all you guys have. Im going on record as saying this kid will be the current version of Chris Lofton. I have seen many many great high school players in person over the years, many who have went on to pro careers, but Im saying right now he is the most impressive player Ive watched play in person. Its a freaking crime he isnt going to play for the Cats. I know the garbage about his dad running his mouth and Ive seen countless threads on here from way back about it. He is a better shooter than anyone we have now, and Ive never seen a player in person who can explode like him. And he seems like a great kid with a calm demeanor on the floor. I hadnt been to a high school game in several yrs. Decided to go watch him play in the regional. He had 32 at halftime without breaking a sweat. Highlight reel dunks, and 8 or 9 3 pointers. Some of which were closer to midcourt than the 3 point line. Xavier got a steal here, and its a crying shame he isnt gonna be a CAT!!! OK, go ahead and bash me.

He could have been a Cat. He wanted to be a Cat.

He should have told his dumbass dad to keep his mouth shut and he would be a Cat right now.

After watching him play, and having a son, I cant blame his dad for saying he wasnt going up there as a bench player. Im not sure what all his dad did say, but that was what i had heard. Comparing him to Quade Green is like comparing Jordan to Brad..

I don't know what you think Cal should have done about it.His dad said no way was he coming to UK so why would he offer him after that?

I never heard that his dad said he wasnt coming to UK, only he wasnt coming to UK to ride the bench like people were saying. I know after watching him in person, I left with a sick feeling in my stomach that we didnt get him.

Cal doesn’t put up with any crap from parents. And certainly not from a mediocre recruit who’s not all that great.

Kid seems like a nice player but there is a reason his top two choices were Xavier and Ole Miss

Every future D1 player looks all-world in HS. You said yourself you haven’t been to many games so I’ll trust the UK coaches on this one. I played with a guy that I thought was the next Larry Bird in HS. He averaged about 40 a game. I thought sure he was going to UK or somewhere. He went on to eventually start at Transy and average about 10 pts a game as a senior.

I said I havent been to many games in the last few yrs. Ive been to All star games in Louisville, Derby Festival games when actual all stars were playing in it. Ive watched all the players come thru UHA. Scotty Hopson, Isiah Victor, Buckner, Barnes. Ive watched Larry Johnson, Freddy Cowan, Darrell Griffith just to name a few and Im telling you this kid is as impressive in person as any of them. I had heard guys from work oohing and ahhing about him last yr, and I was skeptical too. If you havent seen him in person then you can run your mouth all you want about how I dont have a clue, but ILL go on record and say he will play in the NBA and UK will be wishing they hadnt stopped recruiting him.

Spilt milk. His dad stepped in it and UK moved on and took another excellent in state player, Dontaie Allen.

I just said I will trust our coaches vs you. If he turns out better then all the guys you list, then you get a gold star and are better at evaluating kids than our coaches. Until that happens, I reserve the right to challenge your credentials. BTW- It’s hard to run your mouth on a message board. Words matter. Good luck. Please post again when he makes the NBA all star game and I will print a full retraction.

Drop Keldon Johnson in the second region and see what happens.

He's a fine player. But he's not a take with those comments from his dad because that's the role he'd have played here. You don't take a kid who doesn't accept his role, especially as a multi year guy.[/QUOTE

Im sure Keldon Johnson would thrive in the 2nd Region. It has nothing to do with the competition. He was hitting 3 pointers like layups from anywhere he wanted to shoot from. He can explode to the rim like nobody Ive ever watched before. No sense in arguing, but Im saying anyone on here who has watched him play will agree with me, and the people who havent will bash what Im saying. And no smartass, I dont think Im a better talent evalueator than Cal and our coaches, but anyone with half a brain and knows anything about basketball can watch this kid play and see without a doubt he should be playing at UK, not Xavier..just a crime that he isnt.

Tandy played AAU ball with Team Thad and didn’t even hit 25 percent of his 3s.

You watched a high talent kid play in a game against average hs kids. If he averaged those numbers in AAU it’d be different.

I think he will be a good player at Xavier and may end up getting drafted, but he won’t be a lottery pick or the next Jordan.

Umm ....perhaps give him an offer?

The attempts to blame the dad sound like scapegoating to me. The fact is Cal simply never gave him an offer. Whether he wanted to go to UK or not we'll never know, because we never gave him the choice.

You seem emotionally involved. The rest of us aren’t. I wish him the best at Xavier and hope he has a great career. But I couldn’t care less he isn’t at UK. UK will be just fine without him.

Really depends on what was said during the visit. If Cal ran into a Lamar Ball or anything close with demands or ultimatums, you can’t blame him for not offering.

You'd have offered an in-state kid whose father had publicly attacked you and your program? Why would you give Ole Miss or Xavier that ammo and cheapen the offer like that?

Then you've boxed yourself in on the next decent in-state kid. It's hard to ask Dominique Hawkins to wait when you let KyKy Tandy's dad goad you into an offer.

In all fairness though, Ja Morant only had like two division one offers. He turned out pretty good, lol.

Speaking of the ever obsessive, shooter, comments...you dont think herro and Baker lit it up like this kid does in high school? Because they did. Shooting is different in college...bc it's harder to get your shot off and it's harder to get open. Ever watched Herro before he catches the ball?

Besides his father back when it was still up in the air about offering him I read an article where KyKy said he is as good as an OAD and with all that I think it just starting getting to be too much for a kid with his ranking. It's like he and his father expected to come to Ky and start and who knows if he could do that. Probably not assuming we land 5 or so recruits.

Kyky found that out it’s not so easy playing AAU ball, and that wasn’t the Nike circuit.

Lots and lots of talent out there, and we have no monopoly on it at UK. We get our share, better than most, but inevitably miss on some, and then again, some are not a good fit for either UK or Cal himself. He obviously made a conscious decision not to continue recruiting the kid. I trust his ability to get the players we want and need to keep our program at high levels of proficiency. A lot of players are going to play in the NBA who did not go to Kentucky, and he may well be one of them.

Im thrilled we got Allen too, but we should have had both
KyKy is undersized and not a great 3pt shooter. Athletic absolutely and has game but he is 2-3 inches minimum short for his natural 2 guard position. He is at Xavier for a reason. The top major schools didn’t offer either, that tells you all you need to know.

Just like the other blue blood coaches. I'm not for just giving him an offer just because he is from KY.

My buddy looks like a PGA pro on public courses. We played from the tips at Valhalla and he shot 75. That’s a great score but he wouldn’t make one PGA cut.
