Why are we not getting

Why are we not getting the best recruits, is a good question? Times have changed! When Cal was at Memphis, and then when he come to UK, other coaches did not believe you could win a National Championship with a bunch of Freshmen. That has changed! The big difference is, Cal wants his players to go to the NBA after one year, even if their not drafted in the First round. Other coaches keep their players if their not in the First round. If you will read Coach Cal's book, "It's All About The Players," you will understand. To Coach Cal, it's not about winning a Championship, as much as getting the player to the pros, after one year in college.
Think about this. If your a parent, and your child is torn between Duke and UK, where would you prefer he go? Even though I LOVE UK, I went there, my two children went there and I have one grand daughter who graduated from UK, and two grandsons who are Juniors at UK at the present time, most parents with the choice will send their kids to Duke, if it's on a BB scholarship.
The other thing that is affecting Cal's recruiting is, a lot of these kids realize their opportunity to get to the NBA is basically the same, regardless of where they go. Therefore, they want to go to a school where they are the BIG STUD, and the coach will put up with their game, even if he's not always a team player, and a little selfish. Think about it, in the past have you wondered why a certain player went to a school where you knew they were not going to be very good. He was all they had!
Unless Coach cal makes some changes, the game is leaving him, just as it did other coaches in the past, which a lot of you know, so I'm not naming them.

Because our major sponsor (Nike) who sponsors most of these kids their whole life, pushes Duke WAY more than UK nowadays. We aren't the top dog for our shoe sponsor anymore and the results in recruiting are telling

Because we let our top recruiting guys (OA and Stickland) are replaced with a failed coach (Barbee) and the stats guy (Justus)

Just a couple off the top of my head

Yhere needs to be something...recruiting diffferently, change of culture (just because you come to Kentucky doesn’t mean you’re good enough to go pro early) and philosophy, but like others have posted, we ALL know dUKe is paying for recruits and helping them become eligible with the help of Nike and the NCAA. Can you imagine any school with those advantages?

You shouldnt need the best of the best recruits to be great in the NCAA. Up until this year... Duke had been struggling the past 3 years with the best recruits....

with the new rules that were put in place a few years.... its hampering us. its time to switch to a traditional style and mix some great freshmen with returning players.

Well today we're more like that then ever before. To me it gets harder when a Top 5 kid says, its too crowded or I want to be the man only. Its tough right now but I really want to see what supposingly is the best coach in college basketball does this year with the top 3 players in the nation in the NCAA tourney.

I don't agree, at all, with the notion that kids will get picked in the NBA draft regardless of where they go...the college decision means much more than you think.

Fox, Bam, Monk, Knox, and SGA all suck

If the goal is to win a title.... we need more than just those guys.. whether its more talent around them..... or a new offense or new defense... just something

Unlike last year when injuries kept us so inconsistent, if this group can't get it together like other teams of Cal's, and they leave with an average season, I will be upset with that for sure.

While I think it’s ridiculous for anyone to directly message a player, stop this nonsense. EVERY school/team has this

First off I wasn't being all that serious hence the LOL, but it doesn't make it right and it's a bad look. Just because everyone is doing it isn't a good excuse, we should be above that. Doing it on here is one thing, but there are lines you don't cross. We were giving dook hell about it and now we are doing it. Just saying everyone does it is half the problem.

I guess they could always go to dUKe where that stuff never happens[eyeroll]. LINK
One more time. I wasn't being all that serious hence the LOL and that really doesn't come off as well as you might think. We bashed them over it, I know I did and now we are like so what it happens other places. We should be above that crap. I don't want to be lumped in with dook turds.

And no other fanbase does that. Crazy isn’t it?
Does anyone read anything, but the last post LOL. I wasn't even being serious hence the LOL. But lets not forget we were giving dook crap about it not too long ago. I would like to be better than some scumbag programs, maybe some are ok with it.

Seriously though I think we are getting great recruits, but not the game changer types. Not sure why. With so much corruption who knows what goes on behind the scenes anymore.

Fox, Bam, Monk, Knox, and SGA all suck

So every season we have one or two players who are pretty good and the rest either have yet to reach their full potential or are just flat out bad at basketball. Then, the following season, we lose our superstars and the potential superstars, retain the bad players, and repeat.

First of all it's hard to tell if someone's being serious or not on a message board, LOL or not. Secondly, telling people not to message these kids is like talking to a wall. If you have to tell a grown *** adult not to do it, then you've already lost the fight.

Status is important in this country. We all know the Duke basketball players are not in the same league as the regular students. No need to pretend otherwise. But that just reaffirms the point. In this country, status is very important to most people whether they want to admit it or not. The "perception" attached to attending Duke is without a doubt something that I believe most parents want to be associated with. When a parent says that their child attends Duke, of course any casual basketball fan will be impressed, but someone who doesn't watch nor follow basketball and is a true academic will also know about Duke the school, in spite of the bball program.

I really think this is the biggest reason Bolden picked duke or UK. They sold him and his mother especially on the status thing. Said it then too.

Ah, Bolden. Just wait until next year when he's a senior. He's really going to break out.

I’m not sure we could have helped him. He is plodding. He’s Dakari Johnson without the motor or heart. The kid that went to Texas, Allen, ended up being way better.

I don't think we need to be worried about being lumped in with Duke this year....
