I really wish his dad wouldn't have built up hope that he would return. From the reports of Knox Sr. saying "Cal is trying to talk him into coming back" and he himself saying "I'm in favor of Knox returning", it built up a lot of hype that he would ultimately return. I wish they would have been more private with this instead of getting people excited for no reason.

Regardless, I loved having Knox at UK this year and wish him well in the NBA.

These families just love to sensationalize their spotlight. He was never coming back.

Good job Knox. Thanks for the time. Glad you enjoyed it and get to seek your dream.

We didn't get much out of this, so I'm looking foward to better evaluation and roster building.

Thats my position.

Really doesn't have anything to do with Kevin Knox.

Agreed. Maybe there really was indecision but I can’t help but feel a little bitter toward Sr for stringing this along a bit. Just being honest.

I didn't think he would either, but I would be lying if I said it didn't build my hopes up some. I expected Knox to go pro after 1 year since the day he signed with us. It's Knox's life, and Knox Senior's son's life, but I do wish he would have not said anything if he truly was considering a return.

Agreed.

I’m happy for Kevin, but the program needs to tweak some things here and there going forward. Not major tweaks, but a few smaller ones based on player retention for actual fringe guys. Knox obviously wasn’t in that category.

UK has held serve the last three years but has not advanced as a program. I expect this to rapidly change moving forward.

What? Confused.

What you feel we got out of this or how our staff evaluates or builds a roster doesn't have anything to do with Knox.

A lottery pick who led us in scoring going to the NBA isn't something to take issue with.

Dear god, these kids aren't there to entertain you up on whatever high horse you live on.

Kevin is having fun right now and I don't blame him. The only person here who won' come down off of their moral mountain is you, as always.

As far as Kentucky goes, which is why I'm here, he was overrated and is not longer on the roster. It simply didn't do much for UK, so yes, I would like better roster building because I'm ready for Cal to have his run. Guys like Knox just don't help in the long run.

If you have problems with this then there's around 30 NBA teams for you to pick from. I'm not making it personal, I'm talking about the effects on UK.

He's a born millionaire that now has more millions. He doesn't need you coddling him.

So where is Cal in all this? Says it’s players first for years, then out of nowhere changes tune and tries to get Knox to stay. No big deal but doesn’t look too great on Cal to me.

Good luck, young fella.

Expected this. Hoped for a return. Didn't get my hopes up too high, so not really as disappointed as some around here are sure to be.

Certainly is NOT a bad decision. Would loved to have him back but I get it. I'll get SGA also.

No one else should even consider but Diallo. If he has a good combine a team will grab him. If anyone else leaves then that's what frustrates me. Its the Orton, Teague, Johnson, Goodwin type players that frustrate me.

I take it as he meant that Kevin’s return would have been an unusual plus for a program in need of a massive surge of momentum.

We can look at the last 9 years as a massive net gain of historical imperatives, and it is. That said, the last three years have ended in disappointment (this year against Kansas State), outrage (brutality of the officiating in the UNC game), and ambivalence (the Murray season). The program has lost its identity as the OAD destination, and UK is at a literal crossroads in terms of where to go next. Does Cal blend more long term guys, or does he continue to sell OAD to the second tier?

UK needs some momentum. Knox would have provided that in spades. Instead, UK now sits with more unknowns, just like it has done for the majority of the last three offseason cycles. It’s no time to panic, but with this announcement, it just creates a feeling of more of the same emotional ambivalence.

It doesn't seem like it should be so hard for some.

I don't think most of our fans understand what. "Players First" means.

If Cal thinks the best thing for Knox is to come back and mature for a year and go top 5-7 in the draft, it's Players First for him to tell him so. Doesn't mean Knox has to listen. So then we support him in what he chooses to do. Players first.

None of that is what he said. At all.
