Has nothing to do with this argument. No one said Cals teams aren't good defensively. But, in games the other team figures out our D, he just lets them keep beating it.

It has everything to do with it. You literally just said teams have been running a layup drill on UK for 9 years. You're not a top defense if teams are getting easy layups at will.

Dayuuum, Coach K has figured out how to teach freshmen how to play a zone. And her I thought by reading this board that freshmen can't learn a zone in such a short time.

Been here since it was cat's pause. Kiss my *** that mods made we switch names.

Your just a hater.
If you don’t want to discuss basketball in an intelligent way just ignore my threads. We are having an intelligent discussion about zones. I contend we would have 2-3 more titles if he had used some zone against UConn and Wisconsin. Some one said Syracuse has one title playing only zone. How many titles does Cal have playing all man to man?

K wants to win titles. Cal wants to win recruiting wars. To bad he's losing those now too. It really is time for him to adapt.

I get those that want to see more zone.

But a post like this is pretty for a ****** for a UK fan.

And then this comment:
"It's not obsession with zone, it's 9 years of watching teams running lay up drills on us in given games and not adjusting."

Were they running layup drills when we went to the Final Fours and Championship games?

Seriously?

This comment is so ignorant I can't believe I even took the time to tell you how ignorant it is.

Oh please explain professor?

Let me guess. Gonna use AD as an example?

Well then I guess you really are a dumbass. How long has zone u been around? And how many final fours has Cal been to at... How many schools?

I learned how to play a zone in elementary school.

I think Cal should do what's best for those kids future 1st and foremost, play zone when necessary. I'm blue through and through...but there is a reason kentucky players do well fairly quickly at the next level. Cal does right by those kids, and I appreciate that.

I love Cal, but saying he's stubborn about zone is an understatement. You all are trying to turn this into something it not. He's a great coach that has a blind spot where zone defense is, and it's costing him.

Boeheim has been at Syracuse since 1976. 42 years. 5 final 4's and 1 title.

Cal's had 4 final 4's and 1 title in 8 seasons at Kentucky. Spare me with your garbage.

Zone UConn twice and U.K. Has two more titles. Laugh all you want but watching 6 ft guards running layup drills without changing is just bad coaching.

I have to agree. UL played zone vs that UCONN team and beat them twice by a combined 70 points.

And Cals would be better if he used some zone.

[laughing]

Ok. Believe what you want. Cal knows a hell of a lot more than you arm chair coach.

And the fact you think we win 2-3 more titles if we did, make me even surer that Cal knows what he's doing.

Uh, K and Pitino mainly play man. Keep making it up as you go. Boeheim won 1 title in 65 years coaching. Great call.

No dog in this fight but Cal only has 1 title in his 30 years coaching and it took a transcendent player like AD to pull it off.

He is hating on Cal. Plain and simple. Look at his track record.
Go back and look at my 16000 post record. I will praise Cal and I love what he has done but he is not infallible or above criticism. He makes 10 million a year to win championships and he has the same number Hall Pitino and Tubby have. He is not a god. Some of you need to get over your man crush. One of his teams won a championship with the greatest player in the history of UK basketball. The team of Knight overachieved but then were better than the UConn team that beat them. I give him a pass for Noel’s injury. But the rest of his teams have underachieved.

Zone sucks...not sure why ppl think it' a miracle defense. You will never get better at man if you don' work on it. Zone was created for a few reasons..A. rest B. When you are worried about rebounding c. You can't
Keep from fouling....thats why duke ran it.

I have no problem mixing it up to give another look or use it some until they get better with man. But ppl act like zone is is some mystical game stopper is ridiculous

Lol, you realize you're being an arm chair coach too right? So is it his how your night goes; I'm going to go on a discussion board and not discuss just hurl ignorant statements with no analysis at people who want to discuss?

That is what most of us are asking for, just change it up, it is sickening watching these other guards getting to the basket at will.

Moving the goalposts I see..

Call me when someone wins multiple titles at Syracuse.

I thought you had no dog in the fight? Why are you still barking? If you want a zone, take your happy *** up north and cheer for Syracuse.

Jimmies a little rustled?

No one is advocating for us to turn into a zone team. Just pointing out that Cal’s reluctance (and sometimes refusal) to play zone is not one of his smarter decisions.

So much easier for young players to defend an area rather than chase and fight over screens and switch. It won’t effect their draft status. If Cal doesn’t play a lot of zone with this team we will lose a lot of games. Most good threes come from inside out. It is hard to do that against the zone.

From what I've read KU is a good 3 point shooting team.. and every smart bball fan knows that the very best D against a good outside shooting team is zone!! Cause its so easy to stop a team from getting good looks in a zone bay-bee Am I rite?

Comparing winning at Syracuse to UMASS. Hilarious. UMASS had made the NCAA tournament all of one time before Cal. They've made the NCAA tournament all of 3 times since Cal. It's funny I'm even having this argument. Especially when you put Cal at a place like UK? and his 8 year tenure matches another mans 42 year tenure. You keep praying for that zone.

Actually an extended zone defense can be very successful against good 3 point shooting teams. You just have to identify the shooters and close out fast.

The man to man sure didn’t slow down Vermont from getting 29 wide open threes

Did you even read the thread? I never advocated for Cal to never play a zone. Robman argued that 3 different coaches who played zone all had a lot of success. (K, Pitino, Boeheim)

I told him 2 of those coaches only used it in spots, with Boeheim living or dying by it. So yeah, if you're arguing we should use it sometimes, then I agree. He also said playing a zone was a good way to cover the perimeter. Uh, no.
