A few thoughts:
1. Is there really any way they can keep Jurich at this point? There's a huge rift between Jurich and Dr. Postel, the pres of BOT and Papa John. Jurich had been conspiring behind Postel's back and has been openly defiant his direct orders. How can truly work together or trust one another? They can't coexist - one has to go and at this juncture it looks like TJ is the odd man out.
2. What message would this send to the NCAA as they're now staring down the barrel of the death penalty. Even if they don't get the death penalty, they are going to get nuked. Repeat offender, hookers, buying players?? But keeping the AD who oversaw this (lack of institutional control) after it was reported you were firing him? This would show that boosters are running the program - not the school. The NCAA is going to pile drive them.
3. TJ would be neutered. If there is any compromise made then it would have to satisfy Postel, Papa John, etc. Everything will go through the pres and his power will be stripped. Not only will TJ be ineffective, he'll be angry and will leave the next time a decent AD job winked back at him.
Either way, it' s a win-win for UK. The basketball team is losing it banners and will be nuked for this 2nd offense. Pitino is gone and they have 0 chance finding a coach of equal status even if probation was not looming. Jurich has either lost his job and/or his power. If he stays, grab the popcorn.
