You applying that to Diallo going to the NBA? Works both ways.

Heck no...it does NOT work both ways. All of our elite signees are clear about their intentions for coming to UK. They owe ZERO to you or me or Cal or UK. WE recruited them, not the other way around.

And be sure of this: Cal does not promise them playing time.

testing the waters right after Duke's guy says he's testing the water.

Both recruiting "replacement" 5 star players

interesting

At least he'll have the chance to come back and get his degree for free if he bombs in the league. He would surely deserve something that isn't available to the rest of us...honestly none of them do.
Davis and MKG don't?

Those are just the easiest ones - have you contributed more to the university than Wall, Boogie, etc?

We're not entitled to anything, and I wouldn't try to make that case.

What I am arguing is that transparency helps, especially when you're trying to maintain a foundation of support from your fans in a world where everyone outside that fan base questions you as a coach and your methodologies.

It's not like anything Cal has done has been perceived as normal. Kentucky fans have mostly stood beside him through every ebb and flow. If UK partially becomes a place for prep guy to practice for a 4 months, that's a big deal and I would make an argument for Calipari at least explaining that possibility to fans the same way he has explained everything else he does here.

Suddenly going mum on something like this would be bizarre. Again, I'm not saying we deserve an explanation, but I certainly think one would be wise if in fact Cal is open to this new practice of potentially using Kentucky as a practice facility for guys who never play here.

Cal is not going to lose any fans Saul.

You and I both would love to know the real situation, probably wont happen.

He came here to get better. If he got so much better that someone wants to give him $3-$4 million dollars this summer, then I'm happy for him.

I think he came here with the intention of playing next season, unless somebody backed up a dump truck full of money to his door. I'm fine with that.
He did this while openly broadcasting that he was doing it. I don't know how we get 18 pages half filled with people acting like he was acting surreptitiously when he hasn't danced around it even one iota.

Are you a fortune teller? You have no clue what will happen. Your all's gloom and doom is weak, tired, and lame.
There aren't a lot of coaches ever who have gone to four Final Fours and won one title in their first eight years at a program. So, good luck.

Diallo should go through the draft process and learn where he stands.

That's what he is doing

Why are people freaking out

Because our fan base freaks out unless everything appears to be lined up to our liking.

Heck, even in 2015, about half of us were freaking out about how Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Arizona were on our side of the bracket, and that was with a roster that featured eight NBA players (not counting Poythress).

Freaking out regarding anything less than perceived perfection is part of what BBN does best.

Do you agree there are more football players than basketball? Run the numbers. There are a lot more scholarships/ players playing football than basketball (not to mention the whole NFL collective bargaining rule of 3 years out of high school hence players want that clock running ASAP)..

How bout comparing apples to apples.

Not really. Last year there were 36 5 star football recruits, and 10 of them were early enrollees. Hell, Ohio State had 10 of their 21 recruits enroll early. There are 24 5star hoops recruits each year, not that far off from the 36 5stars football produced this year. So, I ran the numbers and more than 1 in 4 5stars are early enrollees out of 36. In 2016 there were only 25 5star football recruits, 8 enrolled early.

And I this is an easy way to bypass the one and done rule for hoops stars. Again, why can greater than 1 in 4 5 star football recruits enroll early, but not hoops players?? I think this will become a trend.

Not sure that's the best example considering that didn't end well for us.

I agree with you entire post, but I don't think we're being shallow. This is UK. Our incredible program exists because of the fans and as fans, we have some expectations. One of these is not having players come in giving assurances of playing the next year, refusing to play this year and then bolting for the NBA without ever playing a game. I don't understand why so many of you can't see where that simply makes people mad.

This is UK, not a pre-NBA camp. There are expectations and rightfully so.

Your expectations should have been lowered when EVERY outlet plus Cal, plus the player stated that he planned to do this MONTHS ago. Everyone knew this beforehand, so why the outrage now?

It's a risk/reward scenario, we had an extra scholarship, top 10 player wanted it, we wanted player, knew special circumstances existed and made deal. There is a great chance he'll be back to UK, therefore it was worth risk of giving him the scholarship.

Look dude, you are a fraud. You started a thread saying Cal had underachieved but then you say he always has young teams and it is impossible to win with young teams. Which is it son? Make up your mind.
He has underachieved, but I never made a thread saying it was impossible to win with young teams. He's had more than a few young teams that should have won it.

Obviously Cal has many diehard supporters on this board. So taking the coach out of it, I can't honestly understand any UK fan that wouldn't be pissed if Diallo never plays a game at UK. It's so bizarre - he said again and again he would be at UK next year. Doesn't that piss you off if he was lying?

Too true.

If it’s not our side of the bracket, it’s the refs; if it’s not the refs, it’s the lack of a small forward to match up with Jackson, etc.

No one notices the glaring potential weaknesses lined up against Kentucky basketball better than Kentucky fans. The problem, as you noted, is that we are often times correct in our melodramatic prognostications.

I dont really get your argument.

Spring football is great for early enrollees.

The bball allstar games are in the spring and you have to be in high school to attend.

Besides the footballers cant leave until they are juniors anyway.

But that's the thing. He hasn't signed with an agent. There's still a good chance he DOES play.

So this right now is just an overreaction. As always on this board.

I'd be more worried about how many players Allen is going to trip next year if I was a Duke fan.
