It’s not so “either/or” with Diallo. After 8 years of Cal, most of us get it. We understand the financial argument.

There’s a third group of people in this debate, however – the group that understands that Diallo is actually projected top go top 20 next year in a weak-*** draft. That’s substantially different than his present status as a mid-2nd round pick to potentially not even drafted in the present draft.

He has a better chance of making real money with another year in school. That’s not really debatable at this point. Thus, the “you guys are selfish if you want him back” is really quite lacking if one looks at the present data. Currently, Diallo is hardly even considered a 2nd round pick.

It’s not selfish to point out what the data/feedback/facts actually presently represent.

Yeah I don't see him leaving. He would have to shoot it amazingly well to make up for the reality of his in game performances.

If you are drafting late first, do you really pass on someone like Kennard or Josh Hart for Diallo? And Hart isn't even projected first round, for that matter.

Of course it only takes one, and if someone is willing to invest a first round pick in Diallo, more power to him.

Because he was the #1SG and we dont have one next year.

He and his HS coach both said he wasnt ready for college ball yet.

Cal watched him everyday.

If the next SG we could have gotten was Shai (dual) or Baker what did we lose?

We could only win in this situation, there simply wasn't another stud heading our way that we know of.

If he does come back many on here will look silly for asking why did we take him?

Who knows what will happen.

Your a confusing individual. #1 SG not ready for college but ready for NBA in 4 months. :eek:kay:

Honestly if this kid does stay in the draft, I wish him nothing but the best

Cal look
Shouldn't be pissed at all. It's another argument in favor of Cal that his practices prepare you for the pros.
But not to play during the season. Makes sense.

Yes I would have said no unless he guaranteed that he would come back for another year. No one knows the details but I highly doubt that Cal got that guarantee from the kid. So many variables in play as others have mentioned from the recruiting butterfly effect, the negative PR that will reign down from the media about the situation and the message that it sends to future recruits that UK is even more about "that NBA life." If a kid is a first rounder he should leave and go to the league no questions asked. But it's also true that UK basketball will suffer and likely not win a championship with this level of roster turnover.

People are upset because a scholarship is a one year contract where a player (if eligible) receives: free education & free lodging in addition to instruction from college caliber coaches in return for playing a sport and representing their university. He never played in a game while still reaping all the benefits in particular top flight basketball coaching in specific areas of instruction. He was eligible to play and physically able of body but he did not actually play while still receiving all the benefits of the contract he signed. People are pissed he didn't fulfill his end of the contract and IF Cal allowed him to do that then people are upset at coach that he allowed it to occur.

No one knows all of the conversations with his coming on board.

We do know that Diallo expected to be back, at least he said this.

And we can be pretty sure that Cal expected the same.

But if he gets good feedback Cal cant stop him.

And Cal wasn't going against his word and playing the kid against his will this year. How would he do that anyway?

Negative PR? That is comical.

People are NOT upset that Diallo received a free education, free lodging, or instruction from college coaches.

That is a lie.

All of us are upset because we may be without our SG next year and it will hurt our season.

Please dont try any of this crap about the expenses when most on here want UK to spend a billion dollars for a new arena.

Saying Cal allowed the kid to not fulfill his end of the bargain is another weird and thoughtless remark in this tirade of yours.

I trust in Cal. In my lifetime, other than Rick in the 90s, been an absolute pleasure during the Cal era.

I'm not going to react to this until I actually know what will happen. Ton are putting the cart before the horse. Could go or not. Could still land Knox Bamba Smith.

I'm gonna sit back and wait. Either way I know by February we will have a team that is capable to make another final 4.

I would, but maybe that's why I'm not an NBA GM lol.

Houston has often drafted in the 14-22 range in recent years.. Most of those players never amounted to anything. Jeremy Lamb, Royce White.. Yeah you got some years of Terrence Jones and Patterson.. but those picks were more or less useless. The 2nd round is quite silly if you step back and look at it.. 30 picks.. maybe 5 do anything note worthy in the NBA.. most don't even last past a year or two.

I'd take a flier on Diallo in the 2nd. What do you have to lose?

I would too. But if I'm Diallo, I don't stay in without a first round guarantee.

My post is based on him not coming back.

If he is just working out and getting feedback from the pros and plans to return, it makes perfect sense.

How many times do I have to say that I was quoting the player and his coach?

I'm sorry that confuses you, but reading your posts I'm not surprised.

I'm also not sure that you are worthy enough to pick on @ulismyman with these mind-numbingly awful posts of yours tonight.

Absolutely ridiculous and bullchit. If he ends up staying in the draft then I honestly won't care if Cal leaves anymore. This got old after about year #5 and it's crap now.
Yea. All of these guys coming in, not playing, taking roster spots and then leaving, making the team worse.... ohhhhhh the horror.

Sure, but you cant have it both ways like many on here are stating.

If he goes it was the dumbest move Cal ever made. If he stays Cal is great and we have a stud SG...

This class is not guard heavy.

If he didnt cause us to miss on anyone great then it's not an issue, other than our expectations for next year. :flushed:

Generally speaking, I fail to find a silver-lining if Diallo goes pro this summer.

I don’t think UK had a great shot at a title next year, even with Diallo/Bamba, but being in the discussion does matter. Diallo/Bamba put UK in that discussion. Cal has helped shape a UK program with a foundation of being relevant annually. Guys like Diallo make that foundation a reality, both in their one year at UK and long-term.

Not having him on the roster next year would suck. He’s not a spring-time signee who we barely lost out on. He's directly connected to the Bamba recruitment, which is substantial. He’s also guy who was promoted for four months along the lines of “don’t come here if you aren’t playing next season.” Those were Cal’s words, and again, if Diallo bolts, Cal would have been wise to have never made those words public knowledge.

Sounds like he's gone to me. At least we'll never know what we were missing. He might have been another Briscoe.
Yep can't really miss, what you never had. I honestly don't get the outrage.
Is the off-season that boring?
