The bigger question would be, why did we even bring him here?

Just to give us another body for practice?
To get the best SG in the class with a decent chance to return and play next season. A risk every coach would take.
Wouldnt be surprised if the NCAA comes up with a rule about this in the near future. This is a bad look for college basketball. Kids enroll early, practice for 4 months and go pro. This will be the new trend, and the NCAA will get with the NBA and try to stop it, if they can.
calm down, how many high school kids have enough credits to graduate & enroll early? Then out of that number how many are elite 5 star players even worthy of a combine invite? Diallo is a rarity.

There is no silver lining if he goes.

It will suck. But if the kid changes his mind no need for everyone to dump on Cal but the haters have red meat...

I'm thinking 2019 is our year anyway and Diallo would be long gone by then either way.

I mostly agree with this, but I can’t fall into full lockstep on the issue of Cal not having an inkling to this and being taken off guard if Diallo "changes his mind." Cal is too savvy and has known about the possibility of this for some time. He’s the best at reading the terrain and pouncing where and when necessary. It’s part of the reason he’s the best at what he does.

That said, if the small chance that Diallo did in fact catch Cal off guard, the best thing to do now would be to continue the dialogue of transparency he started back in January, as opposed to assuming we forgot those discussions. Since he started that line of communication with the fans, the whole don’t come here if you plan on leaving bit, he needs to continue it and admit that things changed if Diallo leaves now. Using discretion by suddenly maintaining silence as opposed to continued transparency in such a case would look like Cal misled the fans and built up our hopes. Some will argue that our expectations don’t matter, but for a fan base that has seldom questioned the journey under Calipari, a journey that has been at the very least, controversial and unconventional, I think it’s a bit dismissive if anyone declares our views on the Diallo situation as irrelevant to the overall discussion.

Overall, we support Calipari. If he was caught off guard by Diallo staying in the draft (all speculation at this point, but that's what message boards are for), there’s a hundred ways to communicate that fact to fans without disrespecting the Diallo Family or throwing Hami under the bus. Cal is a master wordsmith. It wouldn’t be hard for him at all.

I hope you're right. What Hami said didn't sound too encouraging but he left a door open to return so we'll see. If he doesn't come back, I think we're a borderline top 15 team if we add Johnson and Bamba but not sure if we'll have quite the upside to improve as drastically from the regular season to March as we've been most seasons.
You forget next year will be a down year for college basketball. There is no prohibitive favorite. UK will be fine.

It is funny that shy of winning the title (and this might be a reach), there really isn't ever a time where our fan base is united in any way.

People are still mad if the championship game is too close.

That's more of a reminder why Hami should return. The real money is in the lottery. Diallo, unlike Briscoe and Humphries, has a legitimate shot at the lottery next year.

I don't disagree but that's why he is going through the process. To find out where he stands and get experience with the process. He could blow up in the workouts and move into the lottery this season.

Counterargument would be to go if you are drafted anywhere in the first round and get to your 2nd contract a year quicker. Would be tough to turn down 1+million a year.

If he does leave - i guess this explains the rumors that we are telling Knox that we want him to play some shooting guard.

Cal does not owe the fans any communication regarding a player.

In fact Cal lies about them every time if he needs to protect them.

Cal seems to be scurrying for guards now.

But I'm not sure why you think we are entitled to an explanation regarding Cal's recruiting decisions...?

It's got nothing to do with cal. I created a topic on this before. It's the system. Cal is doing what he has to do but the system sucks and it's weakening the game.

I think your definition of seldom, may be a little off,,,by seeing over 13 pages of this crap. For a guy that never played, did not hurt the team AND hasn't left (yet)

Even if he leaves, as you said Cal, probably had an inkling. DOES ANYONE THINK HE IS TOO STUPID TO NOT TRY AND REPLACE HIM?

Or, he misled Cal.., I really do not understand the uproar. Except for posters like zay...trying to create agenda against Cal

So you would have told him no, he can't come early?
I'm just starting to read through this and I'm only on page 2 of 11, but my opinion on this is no, I wouldn't have taken him if the plan was to use UK in this fashion.
It's bad enough that we are now "one and done U", but now we are striking deals with kids to come here and practice for a little bit, then jump? Nah, don't like it one bit.
Maybe this wasn't the plan, well, if it wasn't the plan then why is he doing this? Hopefully just to get feedback. But if the plan is for him to stay in the draft, be prepared for UK's name to get slammed in the media.

The accusations of "false promises", "lies", "not keeping his end of the deal...", where are people getting this?

“Me and Coach have spoken. I came here with a certain plan, so the biggest thing for me is sticking to that plan,” Diallo said in his first meeting with Kentucky media on Friday. “This semester is preparing me for next year. It’s been hard to do, but it’s a plan that I had well thought about before coming, so this is a plan that I think is best for me to stick to.”

Though he was careful not to say WHERE he planned on playing next year, just that this half a season was preparing him for next year.

It happens CONSTANTLY in football and with 5 star recruits. Are football players that much smarter than basketball players???

Again, if Diallo leaves he should never have been recruited.

If he stays we are awesome.

Amazing that we fans can have it both ways.

UK did nothing wrong. So that is lame Jeff, media can't say anything.

Oh look, brianpoe and Aike and others who think they run this board and UK fandom are stroking one another yet again. And not convincing anyone new with their tired, lame arguments and deflections.

You all do not run the show. Hopefully when Cal leaves you all will be gone as well. Actually isn't there an NBA/D-league/Euro-ball board you all can stroke each other on?
The troll show is in full force. Gawd I love it so.

Nah see even if he does go.

I mean Cal recruited him knowing this was a possibility. But there was also one in which he stayed.

The only way I would say he never should have is if Cal KNEW coming in he was gone.

I don't think that was the case at all tho
