Bitching about Barnhart in this scenario is just bitching to further an agenda against him. CBS pays a shitload of money and they want the most people watching during the times that determine commercial prices. Shouldn't be too hard to understand if you would take off the "I hate Mitch" blinders.
It's only like a 2-2.5 hour disadvantage. It sucks the players have to wait that long to play their first game, but they'll be alright.

I love the start time. I prefer to play our first game either noon Thursday if we're a 1 seed or 9:30 p.m. Friday. any other time so I can at least enjoy two full days of basketball in the unlikely event of a UK loss.
