Love Kentucky basketball and was so happy when Cal came to coach. I still admire him but wish we could change the recruiting. Would love to see players stay so that we, the fans, could feel a real kinship with them...our boys, so to speak. I miss those days when we knew the guys and looked forward to seeing them back the next year.

And I'm sure you'd be happy waiting on the 3 and 4 star guys to mature. You'd be happy with starting Hawkins, Willis, Charles Matthews, Marcus Lee. And maybe we get one of Fox, Monk or Bam.

I do sometimes wish Cal would follow through when he says he's going to bench players who aren't doing well, but I definitely don't want him to change recruiting as long as the one and done rule is in place.

Guys like Hawkins, Willis, Humphries, Wynyard, Mulder, and SKJ? How many more do we need?

I hate to say it but that team you just mentioned would most likely beat this years team. Just my opinion.

You would be a great fan of Tennessee, Missouri, Ole Miss, Auburn etc. They recruit players that stay 3-4 years. Once in a while they make it into the NCAA tournament. Just go be a fan of one of those teams.

How much of Calipari's paycheck do you think is because of how well he can recruit?
Whatever his paycheck is, it's a bargain. Now Pimptino on the other hand, who has one legit final four and no noncheating titles in 16 years at UL, has been severely overpaid.

Love Cal. LOVE the recruiting. Hope he doesn't change a thing there.

About the only change I would like to see him work on is to remove the stigma that not leaving UK after one year is seen by some as a failure.

I don't blame him for that stigma. Our rivals created it, but it is prevalent enough now that I would like to see what he can do to eliminate it.

I think he's trying by naming Briscoe the leader before the season and saying it was his team . Then you have fans who claim to want experienced players to stay but now want to reduce Briscoes time , so I guess they want John Wall to stay until he's a senior .

The problem isn't the recruiting it's not being able to keep guys around who have no business putting their names in the draft
I can agree with this. And Cal is a victim of his own success. Nowhere else in the country, nowhere, does a 5'8 or less player leave after his sophomore season to enter the draft.

A player like Briscoe is a 4 year player anywhere else in the nation. Including other big dog schools.

Better than watching talented immature players for one season

The recruiting landscape has completely changed since his days at umass and Memphis guys like Joey Dorsey, dozier, and Douglas-Roberts wouldn't be here till they are juniors and seniors. Derrick rose was the one exception on that 2008 team and even then I'm shocked that, Willie kemp, a senior pg gave up his chance to start for a freshman player. Those days are gone. Few kids who have been here waiting for their chance to play aren't going to come here knowing they maybe recruited over. It's the changing of the times. Hence the reason you will see teams like Villanova, gonzaga, witcha state amongst others have great years and possibly win the title. Cal made Camelot the quick ticket to the draft, we are the Harvard of basketball schools. If bill self, Sean Miller, and Roy could do what cal can they would. K is the exception since he won titles before the OAD era.

i feel a kinship with almo Conn has won two NC's

st every player that has worn a UK jersey
if you don't that is on you
i love how Cal recruits, and the results speak for themselves

Let's see, in the seven years Coach Cal has been here, U Conn has won 2 NC's, Duke has won 2 NC's, Nova has won 1 NC, Loserville has won 1 NC, and UK has won 1 NC.
UK has had the No. 1 recruiting class all 7 years according to Scout, and 6 of the 7 according to Rivals.
Pointing out the facts, DOES NOT mean I want to get rid of Coach Cal, as some on here will start posting. It would be nice to recruit some high 4's who would stay more then one year to go with our "One and Done."

In that time span Kansas has no titles, UNCheat has none, Michigan State has none etc etc. and those schools get lots of 4 stars that stay multiple years.

IKC, there are a lot of teams that don't recruit all players that leave in one year and still make the Tournament. If a player is a First round pick, maybe he should go, but if he's a 2nd round pick, it might be better to stay another year. Don't you think Briscoe did the right thing, by coming back?

We have been very successful in the Cal era. We have to go after the best recruits but with that comes some uncertainty. Some years you get players that are not as good as advertised leaving you unbalanced. Cal does an amazing job of getting his players ready to compete. This year both Gabriel and especially SKJ have been less ready than expected leaving us very thin in the frontcourt. I will take getting to final four 4 out of 7 years because if keep getting there the championships will come. I do think so much energy goes into getting the young players ready it affects the development of veteran players.

So your saying if you don't get "One and Done", you can't win. Check out some of the other ones I named,U Conn, Nova and Loserville. U Conn beat us with a Junior, Kemba Walker, the first time, and a Sophmore, Shabazz Napier, the second time.
