Sure, but they were good as Juniors and Seniors. SKJ will be around for a while. Gabriel might end up being good enough to leave this or next year but he's not a small forward and I don't see that changing.

You and I are just not seeing the same thing in regard to Gabriel and SKJ. I am probably more excited about those 2 returning (if that happens) than any recruit that might be coming in. I love the development potential of both SKJ and Gabriel. Both are skilled players already; and I think it’s much easier to teach those guys to play better/smarter than to have players who you have to hope can make dramatic improvement in skill sets. I don’t see anything that would make me think that both wouldn’t be very good starters next season – and real studs by their Junior, or heaven forbid, Senior seasons.

I don't understand people writing off UK's chances with Young. It just makes too much sense for him to come here.

With Young's shooting abilities, actually makes more sense for him to showcase them in college in a role like Monk is filling right now, moreso than as a PG. He doesn't have to prove he can play point for the NBA guys. It's his shooting that will get him drafted.

With guys like Washington and Vanderbilt on the roster who can score, handle, pass, and drive, a true PG like Green, and elite bigs like Richards and Bamba, Young could absolutely feast.

I think we are recruiting based on positions which should be good. The 5 recruits so far could make 5 man lineup. Plus we should have Killeya-Jones, Gabriel, Wynard, and Hump. Now just add a few guards who are knock down shooters with Bamba.

Cal looking to put together a team similar to 2012? At least the starters.

G Teague/Green- steady PG.
G Lamb/Young- shooter.
F Kidd-Gilchrist/Vanderbilt- big SF that can handle like a guard.
F Jones/Washington- good inside/outside combo.
F Davis/Bamba- long, athletic shotblocker.

Is this deja Vu?

I think we could be looking at a mirror of 2012, with Vanderbilt in the MKG role, Washington as T-Jones, Bamba as AD, Green as Teague, and hopefully Young as Lamb.

Not quite as talented and certainly much greener to start the season, but similar makeup.

Obviously need a couple more things to happen to pull this off.

@bucsrule8872 - great minds

This too a T. Vanderbilt is a great pick up but Cal HAS to sign some shooters because right now none of the recruits can hit the Bree consistently.

Hell if I know. But common sense says he was looking for any reason to leave last year andninky returned because he had to and wanted to improve his shooting. No reason to think he won't leave no matter what after this season.
Hard for me to see him leaving after this year IMO, because he wanted to go last year but didn't like his second round feedback he got so he came back. Now he's going to leave after this season to 100% not get drafted? Questionable decision. I know he wants to go, but if he improves his shot over another year he could nose his way into the first round.

It's not about not being happy it's about understanding what it will take to go far in the dance. It's a legit criticism when it comes to Cal especially for next year. You're right recruitment isn't over but it's also legit to be worried if you follow H.S basketball and realize there aren't many good shooters who are good enough to play at UK left out there.
Do as you wish. This season isn't even halfway yet. I sure ain't gonna worry about next year and fret over something that is still not over or whether or not this or that can or cannot shoot.
Cal is the best recruiter ever in college basketball and yet we have folks complaining over which 5 star kids he got. It's no wonder he doesn't see himself coaching past 60.

With Cal selling positionless basketball, could he be thinking about this lineup?

PG Green - shooter and gamer
SF Vanderbilt - versatile, ball handler and passer
SF Knox - shooter and versatile
PF Washington - bruiser and hybrid
C Bamba - athletic freak and shot blocker/rim protector

I think it just might work...........

It would work for me.

the people bitching about people bitching are more annoying than the people bitching.

Normally I agree with your takes, but I think in this particular instance the bitching in this thread is a mind mind blowing.

On and that whole following sequence threw me for a loop since my actual name is "Marc", ha!

There isn't anymore shooters who are also very good players left other than Knox as far as who Cal is recruiting so hopefully he can get two grad transfers who are 6'5 and above and can shoot

Out of curiosity, why do you feel they need to be "6'5" and above"?

It looks like we're already gonna have a ton of size next year. That's not really an issue with next year's team. But we do need to add some backcourt outside shooting, and the height of that shooter addition doesn't matter nearly as much as how well he fills it up from deep.

It amuses me how pre-occupied many posters here seem to be with size.

Or, what's so bad about this lineup?

PG Green - shooter and gamer
SF Vanderbilt - versatile, ball handler and passer
SF Gabriel - mid-range shooter and versatile
PF Washington - bruiser and hybrid
C SKJ - mid-range shooter and very nice overall offensive potential, and a shot blocker/rim protector

Looks good to me but what do I know?

You don't really think Cal gives a crap about what any of us whackos say on this board do you?

No one is complaining about getting Vanderbilt. Everyone realizes he is very good. People are voicing concerns about the shooting for the roster so far as it pertains to next season based on who's projected to come back and who's left as possible signees.

Do you not agree, objectively, that this is a valid concern?

I agree that there is a concern, obviously. But it just comes across as bitchy. When someone hands you a brand new Chevy, you dont say, "Why aren't you giving me a Cadillac". At least enjoy the new recruit for a day before bitching about questioning Cal's recruiting. I'm gonna go real far out on a very thin limb here and guess Cal knows far more about what's going on with any recruiting situation at any sec than any single person here. We have hands down the best recruiter in NCAA history and folks here are bitching literally a few moments after signing another five star kid. There isn't a single person here that knows recruiting better than John Calipari. It displays a certain ignorance and entitlement.

We still need guards. Valid discussion. But a couple of posters are openly upset about us snagging Vanderbilt.

It's both weird and completely normal at the same time. Welcome to the Rafters.

LOL ok man . Yes let's pick out the one thing he can't do well and disregard all the other things . You are too much man ..too much [laughing] .Also how much did briscoe play last season? How much did Dakari play ? they were at or below 50% and also you are only looking at his stats last summer. For HS he shot in the mid 60's from the line . But I understand you are picking and choosing stats to suit your arguement . And to be clear your arguement that people who don't make freebies don't play much as to be the dumbest , most ill informed one I have ever heard. NO they won;t play in the last 2 minutes but literally every single year on most every single team guys play a ton of minutes without shooting free throws well. Vanderbilt is the most overall talented kid we have so far for next season. He can handle like a pg , he can pass , he can jump , he can run , he make jumpers decently ( like Jones or Poy did) , he is a smart kid , he is a good kid . But yes he usually on shoots between 55-65% from the line , Big whoop.
YA know , I realize most people on here are misunderstanding where I'm coming from and I understand that . It's not that I dislike Vanderbilt it's just that I thought with Green we might have increased our chances with Knox . I doubt we get him now . But I got to say , when you say dumbest and most ill informed you must not ever look in the mirror . Last year everyone laughed as practically guaranteed every recruit was coming to UK . Newman ,Zimmerman, Brown . You were a running joke on here for months. Nobody pays attention to you even though you act like know things . You're always spouting crap about, this guys going to shoot 35% from 3 , or " he can hit em " when stats show he makes 26% . You are a pretender . You're just like the dude that always calls shows and says " Kentucky by 10 biggins " . I haven't paid any attention to you for months . Not many others do either.
