With Vanderbilt coming on board who is next into a fast growing elite class? I imagine we will lose Briscoe, Bam, Fox and Monk to the draft with Hawkins, Willis and Mulder graduating to giving us 7 spots for next season. We have 5 commitments now, so who will be next?

Unless briscoe is going to be a professional NASCAR driver he's not going anywhere. On the latest draft boards he's not even a thought

you guys think any of that matters?

Dude was this l-l close to leaving last season knowing he likely wouldn't get drafted. Only came back because he had to and thought he could improve his shooting enough to turn some heads. You think he's gonna come back AGAIN?

Come on now.
I'm just saying as of today I can tpredict what happens the rest of the season he could go in the tournament become MVP and a lottery pick. Judging by the mock drafts and yes I know they are mock drafts he's no where to be found

I don't think UK gets another big time (top 40) recruit. I don't see Young, Knox, or Diallo coming.

I would expect Cal to take a look at Juco and/or transfer guys or maybe a local KY kid.

Really, really need someone that can shoot. But, the guys they have on board are definitely legit.

It will be 2 out of the 3 of Young, Bamba and Diallo. I hope Young but Diallo is a stud as well. ALso I think we add a grad transfer or Juco Shooter.

Here we go again with your recruiting guarantees....how did Zimmerman, Newman, Brown, and all the others you guaranteed were coming work out. There is a way better chance that UK gets none of those guys than they do 2 of them.

Where is Briscoe going? He sure as hell ain't getting drafted by the NBA.
Turkey, Greece, maybe Czechoslavakia.

He may make the 2nd round, but, I think it is a long shot for him to make a team. However, I don't think that matters. I believe he really had to think long and hard before coming back this year. If he has to play in Europe, then he will, but I think there is less than 5% chance of him returning.

so UK is gonna go into next season with 2 guards on the roster and then a bunch of 6'8"+ dudes?

Gotcha.
I think he goes into next season with Green as his pg, Knox as his sg, and Alexander as his backup. You forget that Cal keeps pushing "positionless" basketball, and if he has two guys who can handle and distribute the ball, and a guy like Knox, who can fill it up from the outside, he will make it work. Especially with as much depth as he will have up front.

I am not certain that Briscoe will leave. Maybe, maybe not. He is not on the draft radar at all at this point.

Young and Diallo are keys. We need another guard or two on this roster, in case Briscoe does bolt, and additional shooting never hurts.

Kevin Knox cannot guard 2 guards at the college level.

That ain't happening.

Well, you said you want Young, and Bamba. I think Cal does, too. I just don't think we get Young. I agree that Cal will try to sign another guard, maybe two, with one maybe being a grad transfer. I just think that whoever he would sign now, in a weak class, where almost all the talent that was there, is now gone, he will have a couple of guys who will practice. But, if he can sign Knox, that is who will be your shooter. He may not be the best person to guard a sg, but, it can be no worse than Gabriel and Willis guarding 3's this year, and if he can give us the outside shooting we will have to have to keep teams from packing it in against our big men, then he will have to live with it. Plus, if Knox gives up a basket or two, he will still score more on the offensive end than he gives up on the defensive end. And, it will be a lot easier for him to guard sg's on the perimeter knowing that if they drive past him, we will have a bunch of rim protectors next year. Remember, the thread was who signs next, not who do we want.

The thing with Briscoe is yeah, he isn't on any draft boards right now and he wasn't on many last year. He went to the combine last year and turned a few heads enough to almost stay in. Even though his shot needed work, many "experts" felt like he had a great showing and that his game is meant more for the league than college. Now, he hasn't improved his jumper a lot-marginal at best, but he has improved his free throw shooting tremendously. I actually feel like playing with Fox hurts Briscoe as Briscoe needs the ball in his hands. He isn't a great shooter, but he is really hard to guard one on one. At this point there is little to no way to improve his stock so on the board or not, I think he is just as gone as the others. The mentality of kids these days is not what it was when they used to think "if I get a round 1 guarantee I will go". Now they think, "well if I don't make a team I can go overseas and worst case scenario I will be in the D-League,,, either way I will be making money". Not saying it is the smartest thing to do, but it is reality

We have been spoiled by calipari. I think if we get anyone now it will be Bamba, and that's it. That being said, I'd also love for these pipe dream wishes to become reality.

I'm hoping we get a juco guard, and at least one of either briscoe or Gabriel stays.

Well we already have 5 signed...I'd say 2 more tops. We definitely seem to be missing the Monk or Lamb or Booker type shooting guard in this class.

I don't know who will be next but I hope it's one of Bamba, Knox, or Young. As has been mentioned, we really need to add a shooter or two. I love our class so far but there is one glaring weakness and that is outside shooting.

As for Briscoe I think it's pretty clear this will be his last year. It shouldn't be but it will be. As much as I love Cal this is one area that I think he needs to rethink or clarify his position. He has clearly set the standard for having a players first program but putting them first should sometimes mean encouraging them to return to school. Cal needs to recognize and celebrate the positives of these kinds of decisions also. Briscoe's NBA stock isn't going to rise too much if he stays til his SR year, in fact it would probably drop, but stock in his life after basketball will definitely rise with a college degree in hand. With his skill set the one attribute he can improve on by staying in school that would help him make a team in the NBA and stay in the league is playing smarter, out-thinking your opponent. A lot of times the smarter player dominates the more athletic player.

I know Cal has mentioned trying to get kids to come back and I know he can't make them but he can do a better job of having that decision seen as more of a positive than it is now.

maybe. Would love to watch a lineup of Green, Vanderbilt, and whatever other 3 guys score from outside 10 feet, though.

I could live with that, but I don't see many guys on our roster that can score outside of 10 feet.

Washington, maybe. Alexander maybe.

Like you said earlier, we need Young and Bamba.

Green and Young in the backcourt backed by SGA. Green and Young can both shoot.

Bamba with some combination of Washington, SKJ, Vanderbilt, and Richards. Hump and Wynyard in backup roles.

That's a frontcourt with incredible length. Bamba's shotblocking makes up for the small guards on defense.

I'd put Knox @ 5% - for whatever reason, UK hasn't been successful recruiting this type of player, and both Duke and UNC seem like better fits.

I'd put Bamba @ 25%. Seems like he'd start from Day 1 but his background and recent comments on the schools recruiting him, he doesn't seem that high on UK.

I'd put Young @ 40%. UK would have to convince him to play a good amount of time at SG.

Wenyen will be gone too. He has physical attributes you can't coach. And they draft on potential anyways. SKJ will be back though. He's still raw. Briscoe, depends on how his season goes. He has great strength and ability to get to the basket. But he has got to hit his shots. Not necessarily 3's, but the pull up jumpers and 15-18 foot shots.
