Need to beat UNC and Louisville and then we will move into the top 4 at some point thereafter. Need that #1 seed. 2 Seed wouldn't be a disaster.

We win one of those two and beat KU as the team starts to gel, we'll be fine.

I hadn't looked out that far, but that would actually put us in a better spot than beating both U of L and UNC and then losing to Kansas, so that would fine with me.

There's gonna be a lot of big teams in the 1/2 seed line. You're looking at Duke, UNC, Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas.. Maybe Indiana and UofL sneaks in, or at least gets a #3 seed.

This could be an epic tournament with IU and UCLA putting good teams on the floor, along with the usuals being Elite. And what's nice about that, is that Duke won't have quite as much of a cakewalk bracket.. They'll have someone good as their #1/#2 seed.

These teams, and Kentucky, are gonna have to beat someone good if they want a Final 4.

I'm more than fine with the rankings. Let someone else have #1. Nobody really seems to covet it this year.

Kansas & Ucla are 10 spots over-rated.

I don't know. Admittedly, I have only watched UCLA against UK, but UCLA is tough. They are big, can rebound & shoot from outside. We certainly didn't help things with our ole defense against them, but they are legit IMO. If Saturday is typical of their play, they are contenders this year.

We're #7 on the Coach's Poll. This early in the season I'm not too concerned about the ranking - as long as we sustain and keep a chance to be top 5 come selection Sunday. However, I did find it comical yet again that the Cats fell 5 and 6 spots after losing to a top 10 team (I know, at home, but we still scored 92 points and cut the lead to 3 with a little bit of time left). We all know very well had Duke lost to UCLA while ranked #1, even at Cameron, they'd have fallen 1-3 spots at most, regardless of who else behind them lost (or won). Every year we see it - they lose to a ranked team and barely fall.

And I agree with Answer1313 - UCLA beat us at home, yeah, but to jump from 11/9 to 2/2 might be a bit of a stretch.

No they are not. But if you are saying that then we deserve to be 16. Because quite frankly we don't deserve to be in the top ten.
Both of these posts are dumb.

UCLA has looked great. They have all wins and no losses, and only double digit wins except UK@Rupp.

They don't look as dominant as UK at their best - they won against many so-so teams by 15-20, and if their 45% as a team shooting fails them one night, they can lose to basically any top 60-70 team.

In other words, they're shooting historically well and beating everybody comfortably. But relying on historic shooting for six straight games is a bad, bad bet.

But right now, it's absolutely stupid not to have them in the top 10.

And UK would come out on the better side of a 7 game series against almost anybody in the country.

Problem is, we don't have series here. Our young team just doesn't have the perfect concentration/game in/game out reliability yet that many of us thought it did.

Give it a little time.

I don't worry about rankings this early, but I just hope we don't fall further by next month.

To be honest, I would rather spend the year ranked 5-10 and then make up our rankings with the last few game of the year to get
In the top 5 which will guarntee us a number one seed. If we beat Louisville and unc the haters here will get trashed and rightfully so. They will have some lame *** excuse and I can't wait to see It happen

You said we don't deserve to be in the top 10, which, based on every team's resume to date, is just silly.
We don't. But that's just for right now. Got to beat somebody worth a damn. Which we haven't but we'll get another chance soon.

Polls mean nothing this time of year, except for fans bragging rights

No, not exactly. If we were in a real basketball conference then I could agree with you. But since we are in the SEC that only cares about football, it is more difficult for us to climb up the polls significantly once we get into January, because we are seen as simply beating inferior competition. And a good ranking is important to getting a good seed in March. So we need to stay within the top 10 to 15 to be able to get a 2 seed, or the top 10 to be able to move up into a 1 seed.

Again, that only makes sense if you ignore everybody else's resumes. The funny thing about top 10 lists is that you have to fill them with 10 teams. There aren't 10 imaginary teams with no screw-ups to fill the slot automatically because one strong team had a disappointing loss.

Once you get past the first 5 teams, it gets tough to see who else looks better to this point. You're framing it in terms of "deserving" because you're disappointed in their lackluster performance.

Bad team. Bad. Don't take a dump on the floor! *Whacks with newspaper*

That's not how it works.

Obviously I know realistically that we are a top ten team right now. However I don't think we deserve it.

Kentucky just had to disinfect the damn facilities because of how badly the flu/illness spread..

I'm not really concerned with the result when the entire damn team has the flu. There was little chance we were going to beat UCLA with even 2 key players sick, let alone most of the team.

We dropped, that's fine. But the smart fan knows Kentucky is much better than what they put on the floor Saturday.

We've seen that fail us too much - the SEC is always "down", and that's usually the reason we get crap seeding. So we have to win out on these next few ranked games, as we can't depend on the SEC to prop us up come late Feb/early March.

MSU is still a good win, too. Don't care what anyone says. 4 losses to what may be ALL top10 teams.. What can you do? MSU had an absolute brutal opening slate of games. They won every game they were supposed to. My eye test says they are still a top25 team.

I agree to a certain extent. I think we beat Louisville for sure. Kansas and unc two that would be huge wins. Beat 2 out of 3 and i think it we qualify us for a one seed for sure

That's the problem with SEC tho........we really can't wait till the end to move up. We may very well be one of the best teams come Feb/March but the opportunities to move up just isn't there.

The UCLA loss doesn't hurt so much as it magnifies the other games (UNC, KU, UL).

You can't lose a majority of those games and expect a 1 seed IMO.
