4 star on Rivals, Scout, ESPN and 247sports Composite.

Local media is pathetic.

Weird that UK, Duke, UNC, or Kansas didn't offer a top 30-35 kid. Probably why UL was able to get him. Pitino better hope he signs in the early period, because he'll decommit in a heartbeat if some of the big boys offer. Rumor is Izzo kinda backed off him the last few months. Michigan St was considered the leader for a long time.

He'll be great in 3 years when he finally gets some playing time under Rick. Enjoy the bench the next two years.

I'm sure after a few years of being coached by Rick at UL, this kid will eventually turn out to be a very talented basketball player. I doubt it will be during his first two years of college basketball. If the kid is a 5 star prospect, he should be able to start right away at UL and produce right away. If this kid is a 5 star, it's funny he is one of those guys nobody ever talked about. I never heard this kid's name mentioned much by any college basketball fanbases. It can't be true that this kid is a 5 star prospect. Rick has told us all many times before and UL fans tell us everyday that UL isn't the place for 5 star players. They literally turn those elite recruits away every single day of the year. I'm sure if you ask any UL fan about their opinion about this recruit they will tell you he is a better prospect than John Wall and will probably be a better college player than Davis.

Speaking of 5 stars what's smardo up to these days?

Really you are going to throw Smardo up again?
Speaking of 5 stars what's smardo up to these days?

Are you really going to keep up on Smardo? Not every 5 star goes on to be a NBA star. He had his few years in the NBA . You guys should know not all guys make it. Cal for all his NBA player success is getting quite a list of 5 star nba flops. Polythress, Goodwin, Teague, Orton, Harrison, and a few more.

For the record Rick plays lots of freshmen and has started lots of freshmen in recent years.

Not sure who Polythress is; but if you mean POYthress - no, he wasn't drafted; he didn't show the consistency to be. But the man does have his degree AND a shot to make a team. Since this was his last season at UK, it's kind of early to say flop.
Pretty sure Goodwin isn't a flop - he currently has a 5.4 mil/4 yr deal with Phoenix
Teague did leave too early, I'll grant you that - but making over 1 mil per year playing overseas isn't too bad
Orton has bad knees; he left and got a basic rookie contract before the ish hit the fan with injuries. Smart move on his part - and I think every UK fan will tell you they didn't expect much from him.
Which Harrison are you referring to? Andrew with his 3 yr/3 mil deal with the Grizzlies, or Aaron with is 2 yr/2 mil deal with the Hornets? Both of those guys earned their spots - they weren't drafted on potential.

oh, and one other thing - the number of so-called "flops" is bound to be higher when you have as many as we do heading to the NBA. Currently, we have 21 former players. UofL has 3

I may actually defend UL on this one, they will have time in the frontcourt available next year so im sure that was appealing. Also Ray Spalding played quite a bit as a freshman so while it may take Malik awhile to even sniff the NBA, dont be so quick to assume Rick wont play a freshman, he could have an impact in his early years.

Looks more like a 3 / soft 4 in terms of rankings to me. Hate seeing big men go up soft around the rim and he did not appear to have a killer instinct on finishing based on his mix/recruiting videos.

UofL has played more freshmen the past few years but UofL does not get the high impact freshmen that teams like UK, Duke, UNC, Kansas get. Wish they did but they don't. Probably because Pitino does not have the track record of giving kids more room on the leash when they play. Looks like he is trying to change that but it may very well be too little, too late. Cal is the best at this so it is no wonder that he continues to attract the instant impact kids. Cannot knock his success.

Good for UL. They have to cling to something. The local news here is nothing but doom and gloom in regards to the board of directors. Hell, the football team was on the news last night talking about winning the NC this year in Football.

I do wonder though if Rick counts this recruit as 1 of the 7-8 NBA players he has on the team!

Petrino has never finished first in a Power 5 Conference so let's start with that goal before we start talking NC

From the videos, he does not seem to play above or even at the rim. Rebounds well out his area and has good hands for rebounding. His outside shot is weird at best.
Trying to figure out how a 6'10" guy who plays below the rim is a 5-star player. Must be defense.

Yes, by his 3rd year he will probably really be executing Pitino’s system well. He’ll learn skills such as how to “back tip” and other crucial deflection techniques, how to position himself 10 ft. away from the basket for long rebounds of astray 3pt. shots, and most importantly he will have mastered what area he is to always position himself on the floor for the press.

…. Unfortunately, of course, NBA teams want players that have improved their weaknesses and developed transferable skills – not simply learned how to better execute a particular “system.” But, I hear China pays players pretty decent money these days. So, he’s got that to look forward to.
