There is no point in leaving the open scholarships unfilled. We might not need another big but a wing player or 3-point shooter wouldn't be bad to add. Or take someone like lil Antetokounmpo and let him develop for a couple years.
Unless you can get an elite difference maker to sign or re-classify, or add a nice piece (listen to NBA analysts--every championship team needs a sniper--Doron Lamb and Wiltjer in '12) then hold off and so many ways UK can use this going into next year recruiting. I'd guess you won't see UK sign a class of 9-10 HS kids--so the departures allow transfer option (traditional way) to address some needs that maybe the staff doesn't like in the '17 class.
BBN seems to be into "hints" that Cal throws out--well he did say "If a kid wants to walk onto campus in September I'm fine with that". No rush to address what's best for program. You're in great hands but I like the chemistry of the '17 team with Lee gone--that leaves rotation of:
Fox, Monk, Briscoe, Gabriel, Bam, Willis, SKJ and Hawkins. Humphries/Mulder/Wynyard can compete for minutes but the undervaluing of the skill (very thing many fans didn't care for about Lee) of Killeya Jones is going to look silly this time next year. Gabriel is going to be a fan favorite and great player and you already know what you have in the other guys and just a matter of Fox getting settled in--and defensively that is best backcourt in nation--and this will be a great defensive team overall and superior rebounding team (Bam and Gabriel are tremendous rebounders, as are the guards).
Only one ball and too many agendas can ruin a team-now you have guys you are going to war with (unless UK has something up their sleeve) and can enter June/July with eye on any additions via transfer or re-classification. Options are a great thing to have and it allows following year's team to not just be all Fr.
