I can't take Willy's pond seriously with those effing trashy goldfish swimming around in there. Awful. Learn koi.

Your water lilies are cute though. Try any hyacinths yet?

They are fancy goldfish, not the common type that Anth and his dirty friends used to steal from church festivals during his golden years.

It is, as the good doctor has so observantly noted, not that big so I don't want giant carp thrashing about in there.

I just have the one water lily that sprouts multiple shoots. Hopefully the deer repellant keeps them away from it this year. Hyacinths are nice. I'd have some if it were larger.

I've been trying to convince the wife to do a tour of Eastern Europe - Budapest, Prague, Riga, Warsaw, Vienna, etc. Any ideas on how to sell her on that concept?

I was only engaged for 4 months. I pushed for an ASAP wedding. I'd seen firsthand just how crazy prospective bridezillas can get.

Plus, I didn't want her to come to her senses.

Bellarmine must have been **** if college doesn't crack your top 5.
Well, considering it was in there twice I'd say it was pretty decent. I know you're still jet lagged so I'll spell this out for ya but do better tomorrow.

18 = End of Senior year of high school and Freshman year of College.
22-23 = Senior year of College and 1st year out.

Re: Phases of Life:

One thing I was pleasantly shocked to discover is that having children didn't impair our freedom in ways that we minded one bit - it wasn't like an either/or, or like we felt we were missing out on anything social. It only added to our life and made it better.

And this coming from someone whose first child was earlier than ever "planned / thought about", and we were both (selfishly) freaked out when my wife got pregnant.

Hell yeah- just got the lass's work's pavilion seats for Dave Matthews Band Friday night at Riverbend. 8 rows up from the stage. Second year in a row. She doesn't even really like/know DMB that much (millennials). :)
Damn, I'd love to hit that concert since he's taking a break and it's been a few years since the last time I saw him live.

For a long time, I thought college years were the best of my life and would never be topped.

But college and post-college years are like a sugar high - awesome, wouldn't trade them for the world. Although life now doesn't have those extreme silly highs, it's much more fulfilling. Like steak.

/Sappy talk.

This is the most convincing argument I have ever heard to get married and have kids.

Thanks Big guy.

^I know my audience. :sunglasses:

Oh and the pro tip is, propose in August. Plenty of time to plan for the following summer. (That part is not directed at you, just in general).

Budapest arguably has some of the best architecture in the world, maybe @Joey Rupption could confirm or deny that.

I know that. I was trying to figure out ways to convince your wife, who I have never met and know nothing about. Duh.

My in laws just got back from an Eastern Europe vacation. Loved it.

Nice trip report, BBdK. The cruise across the channel sounds like it was a good call. London is the wife's favorite "city" destination we've been to, and Paris is at or near top for me.

I've been trying to convince the wife to do a tour of Eastern Europe - Budapest, Prague, Riga, Warsaw, Vienna, etc. Any ideas on how to sell her on that concept?

We're heading to Central Europe next month and will be hitting three of the cities on your list over ten or so days. All first time destinations for us. Just tell the wife that some dude you've never met before on the internet is going there with his wife, so it must be great.

Always been hesitant to cruise, absolutely NO WAY on a Caribbean or cattle style trip, but seems like a good way to see some of Eastern Europe & the Med, and check a bunch of places off the list that you wouldn't necessarily want to build an entire trip around or spend multiple days in. (if you're like most people and will only make it across the pond a few times)

Hopefully one day I'll luck in to DMB tickets so I can give them away to some of my friends w/ horrible ears and earn some points for future favors.

And this only a few pages after he said that Oasis made his top five list of albums from the 90s. Yes, the entire decade.

Cruises are the suck for the most part. Unless, you're with a really big group that likes to have fun OR like you said a bunch of places that you don't want to spend a lot of time in on those river cruises. The one in France was awesome, it also was a really small boat, and really top end. Only like 90 rooms. I would have never paid what that trip costs though as traveling by land would've been much cheaper. Thankfully it was free.

Caribbean cruises are pretty much out for me. No thanks. Done it and it's just an annoying mess. Give me a destination all/air.

You essentially took a nice ferry though. Not really a cruise.

I'm actually the opposite. We've done a couple of cruise before, both in the Caribbean (granted it was 2003 and 2007), and I thought those were fine ways to see someplace like Grand Cayman or St. Thomas or Antigua. However, a Mediterranean cruise has never been that high on my list, as I don't think it spending 6 hours or so on a shore excursion is really any way to experience a city like Athens, Rome, Barcelona, etc.

You watched Downton Abbey so, like me, you dream of doing a Viking River Cruise.

I went to Europe in 95 and we went to Budapest which was just a hand full of years out of being run by a bunch of commies and it was a complete dump. I hear it has come a long way and is now one of the best places to visit. But to me it will always be the first and only place I've been propositioned by a hooker.

Completely realize that, and said as much.

Just know that when I see 'cruisers' on other vacations I think to myself, "My god that looks awful". Every Caribbean port is exactly the same ----> Straw markets, Senor Frogs, and rush to a beach for 4 hours of rental sunning equipment. Just defeats the entire purpose of a relaxing beach vacation, imo.

Some of those top end Mediterranean/Greek (non Italy) cruises look pretty sweet, but still don't know if I could ever pull the trigger. They are expensive AF, when most people cruise for the 'value'. Then again, I'll also never probably book a trip to many of the places those go...with so many other land/destination trips still on the list.

Italy/Spain is next. Thailand, Jupiter, & Australia not far behind as far as my bucket list goes.

Maybe when I'm older and not able to bop around like now but I wouldn't ever suggest a cruise. The hassle getting on and off the boat is enough.

Hoping Italy is next but the time required might not be feasible with the little man. A short week in Paris with that Cincy direct sounds more likely.

8,000 more square feet that that new YMCA could be in the convo with Milestone, although I doubt the amenities will stack up, especially once "they" all join for whatever nominal fee is charged, and it turns into a nightly indoor Rucker Park.

Enjoy, though.

Chilesburg and Hamburg are not the same place Anth.

I would think a Montclair would be aware of such folly.

^ that's the one that gets pretty unanimous raves, from what I can tell. Again, still would be hard to spend that kind of dough for Alaska, with so many other places unseen. Those cruises aren't cheap, and convincing my wife to spend a vacation in the ice would be a tough sell.
