Bolden Sunday Announcement

FWIW, Bolden changed his mind Thursday about announcing at the JBC as was initially reported on Kentucky's side of things. Bossi and TJ figured he rescheduled and would not announce at JBC because he didn't want to do so in front of his friends on both teams, and that ended up being the case, so after the game, Bolden made it clear that he would announce whenever he got back home and got settled in Sunday. Kinda follows the storyline that those with sources in this recruitment put in front of us.

Ya gotta feel really good about Kentucky's chances. As good as you can about an 18 year old's recruitment.

This is really a strange one, most of my sources are shaking their hands because they have nothing. A couple...for some strange reason..are being VERY tight lipped as if they've been almost ordered to keep their mouths shut.

It amazes me how the fans, collectively, get in this position psychologically and emotionally THAT WE JUST HAVE TO HAVE THIS KID. We could have far and away the number 1 class, players ranked 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, and if the number 4 kid were uncommitted in April somehow we'd convince ourselves that if we don't get him, it's a serious hit to our prospects for the next year. I suppose the thinking is we're lacking at the 5. Well, who has a perfect team? Which team isn't lacking at some position?

I got the feeling from his interview that a decision had been made. You've got to wonder if some more info is going to start leaking out today or if everyone is going to stay tight-lipped.

I guess the thing that would worry me is that other than some slight UK buzz over the last 24 hours that didn't pick up a lot of momentum, you had the huge pro-Duke surge just two weeks ago that seemed to have some real meat to it.

Regardless, I'm going to stick with the guys who have been saying its UK, and has been for months.

I like Bolden and think he would indeed fill in nicely as a natural 5. But I have seen people on this board say "if we don't get him, will have the same problems as last year". And that is ridiculously not true. The problem was not that we didn't have a turn back to the basket center, it was that nobody could rebound and there was no consistent effort. Gabriel & Bam are 2 guys I think will not have those problems.

A couple of questions for those of you that have a premium subscription..........

Several have indicated that Duke insiders are wavering, but where do you guys see this? Is it on one of their forums, and if so, which one?

I took another look on their rivals free board last night. The guy that a lot of their posters consider to be a reliable source is basically laughing at us. He is still very adamant the choice is Duke.

Can anyone give some insight on where and who of their insiders are backing down?

Adam Rowe and Andrew Slater have been wavering. They went from sold on Duke to at least talking about changing their crystal ball picks to cloudy.

Personally, reading the tea leaves I think it's Kentucky.

First Matt Jones apparently got wind of something Thursday that got him excited but couldn't say what it was. Pretty obvious it was Bolden.

Now he and nearly everyone else in the industry are playing the "omg it's 50/50 gais noone noes!!!" game. To me it leaked that the kid was going to Kentucky and now people are doing whatever they can to preserve the kids moment.

The Duke people probably don't give a crap about the kids moment but were probably sworn to secrecy for fear of losing sources.

I promised myself I wouldn't get my hopes up for Bolden, lest my heart be broken. But alas, I have. I believe he will choose uk. And for all those who have exuded such confidence to allow me to be convinced, I should warn you: if Bolden picks Duke I will castrate all of you with a steak knife.
that gave me pause.

This! People went crazy after Bam Now we have to have another. We don't have to be three deep at every position. Look at every team Each is lacking somewhere.

I would like to land Bolden/allen/yurt, if not, we will be with Bam and the other Bigs; Willis, Wenyen,SKJ, Tai, Hump, and Lee, I think we will be just fine. Bam is the man, I can see he is the type of player who would put it on himself to completely OWN the back boards on both ends of the court. If we don't pick up another recruit, perversely, I feel that it would be a positive. The further development of the Aussie n Kiwi, the maturation of Wenyen n SKJ, and the coming of age of both Bam and D!Will! There are only 40 min per game...

Crystal ball sits at 68% Duke, 27% UK

No changes in picks yet. We'll see if anyone starts to waver today or tomorrow.

Carrier pigeon
They are uricotelic and therefore pretty messy. Also, a natural prey target of cats, similar to our state bird, the cawdnal(I think my spelling is off here but I know I've heard it said that way), So, my thoughts are,the bird could be eaten before the message is removed/delivered, and it could excrete on crAp's head on it's way(that's not a negative btw).

With the enthusiasm on this board now that Bolden will pick UK....if he shows u wearing something with Duke on it will be like when Nova hit that last second shot to crush UNC...I am no going to get caught up in the emotion just going to let it play out, but will admit NWOs enthusiasm is contagious and has put a spring in my step.

Remember when it was Wiggins? I remember reading thread after thread on this board about that, and so many thought that he was UK bound until the minute he announced. Yes, I know a lot had shifted towards KU at that point, but we had our contingent here who believed otherwise.

Well, y'all know how I feel about, so won't go into that. Just wish the kid luck no matter where he goes

You guys acting like Bolden is just gravy are mistaken. Bolden is going to be a hell of a player for whoever gets him. NBA scouts are extremely excited about his potential. Biggest knock on him is he doesn't always play hard, but playing on a team with Bam, Gabriel, Fox, etc. - high motor guys where he can feed off their energy, that shouldn't be a problem.

Once he figures out how good he can be - he's going to be a handful. Cal would be the perfect coach for him.

Height (w/ shoes): 6-11
Weight: 250
Wingspan: 7-6
Standing Reach: 9'4.5

Those are the numbers of a guy who could be an excellent defensive center, and as we've all figured out by now, each of Cal's best teams have had that. He's also a good free throw shooter for a big, which is always a plus.

I'm not even sure what that means. So nothing is going to happen tomorrow and he's just going to mentally make the pick?

Very strange recruitment to say the least.

Yes, we'll be fine, either way. BUT... at this point it's as much about beating/blocking dook in the recruiting game, as it is about UK getting him to fill a need. This is especially true, if Cal let Allen get away due to giving most of the attention to Bolden.

Who is your back to the basket guy?

Bam has not show great skill on the block and you can see the terror he brings if freed up?

Is Hump ready?

SKJ and WG are more face up players.

Willis - no.

Lee - no.

A big like Bolden doesnt need to be Hakeem, just enough to keep the Defense honest and destroy the other team's 4.

Without a solid 5 Bam will be on the block and will receive a heavy dose of the 4 coming over to help.

he will be the primary target on all block outs.

Bolden allows Bam to be 1 on 1 on rebounding. I like our chances.

Keep in mind our previous beast on the boards - Randle had WCS or Dakari at all times.

^ Totally agree with the above post. Getting Bolden is as much about putting the other guys, specifically Bam, in their natural spots. Then you bring Bolden in, get him in elite shape, hope he grows into a post threat the way Dakari did during the NCAA run.

I don't think he's a crucially necessary player, but he'd be really, really nice. Which is why Cal has made this hard of a run at him.

Doesn't always play hard?? I saw that last night..very lethargic

Very common amongst the big centers in these games, the run and gun is simply not for these types.

Of course everyone already knows this.

Not sure. I guess he is going to make the decision and tell family and then announce it at school. This guy from Duke said he does not expect an announcement tomorrow. Who knows???
