My guess is he called the 2nd T, not because of what he said, but because Cal went down and got in his face. I don't even think he did it as a challenging move but he got pretty close. But either way it was still a chicken s--- call. I don't know what Cal said to deserve the first one but if Sirmons' fuse is so short, he's going to call two quick technicals for THAT, he doesn't need to be reffing on the big stage.

At first, I thought he did it on purpose, but the more I think about it and knowing how coaches in general and Cal specifically, want to control every aspect that they can about the game, I think there is no way he planned this. I just can't see how a coach that gets paid millions would trust any one else to manage a game for them. It doesn't jive with the coaching ego/mentality that drives most successful coaches.

The refs that day permitted two swings taken in full view. That's why they shouldn't be refs. Calipari's reaction (I think) was pure theater. On the other hand, permitting two swings was pure negligence.

And a body check by Carrera against Murray. Murray literally went flying. My sense is that is what cause Cal to be upset in the first place. It's not a football field.

I don't post very often, but I was watching the radio sync replay. At 26:20ish the live broadcast goes to commercial and replays the second technical called. To me it seems like Cal just says "Hey, why?" then Sirmons T's him up and that's when Cal goes ballistic.

If you've watched other replays of the confrontation, you'll see call fairly calmly walks over to him, then from what I can tell from the other angle asks him why.

If that's the case, no wonder Cal lost it and not that Sirmons had any respect before that, totally blows it out of the water now.

My thought on the first was the Cal might have been out of the coach's box. I have to say I was 2.2 seconds late getting seated for the game and base every thing I know on replays. Can you believe I was taking a leak and watching the start via looking through two mirrors.

To be a little fair on that one play.... Briscoe was also giving Carrera a shove in the direction of Murray when they went flying.

I don't think Cal did it on purpose. I think when he got the first "T" he was upset because he got it so fast and it just escalated. No way Cal wanted to get tossed so quick into this game. Too much on the line. If they had lost the game, he would be getting crushed by the some in the media and on here. It did unite the team and gave them a closer feel for each other obviously. That may bode well at tourney time.

Never seen one Ref have it in for UK as much as him, he should not be allowed to come to UK or do UK games..

I didn't realize Willis got called for Phantom tripping twice what a bunch of garbage. Against duke that would be flagrant 1 a and 2, so I guess we got off easy

Did this ref work the Wisconcin game?

I heard that Cal questioned him on letting the physical play occur like it did the Final Four game last year

Similar thing happened at Rupp a year or two ago with Roger Ayers. He was on the opposite side of the court, Cal wasn't talking to or looking at him, and he sprinted across the court to give Cal a T. I think Cal rubs some of the refs the wrong way and they stick it to him whenever they can.

That happened at UT in 2012 when they almost knocked off our title team.

Interestingly, Roger Ayers has called only one game at Rupp since Cal's been at UK. That was the MSU game this year that we nearly let slip away. The one where they managed to call 2 techs on us to 1 on MSU during a minor shoving match.

Think maybe Ayers is the hired gun to keep us from winning road games? Maybe thinks he's doing his duty?

We are only 5-6 in Ayers called games under Cal, and some of the worst officiated games saw him on the floor.
