OU obviously has great guard play, all three of those guards they start appear to be studs (Hield, in particular). But I suspect the lack of interior defense will end up killing them in March. Spangler got no D, and their other big guy doesn't show me much either.

I'll be "that guy". Tough Defense was hard to find last night. Offense doesn't win championships.

This is saying.
It's not true tho.

In college basketball good offense beats a good defense.

And let's be honest its not like either of these teams are bad defensively. Oklahoma is 6th in defensive efficiency. Kansas is 7th.

It's just both teams have very good offenses as well (OU 8th and KU 7th) and the offenses took over.

Both teams are very good and will be hard to beat on a neutral court. Both play really good defense. Kansas is the best team right now IMO and has the ability to get a lot better. Oklahoma is awesome but they have less of a margin for error. They are dependent on the 3 ball going in, also they don't have any depth. It is pretty clear that those were the 2 best team going at it last night but I would rather be Kansas going forward.

I heard this last night too. The fact of the matter is that take 35.4% of their shots from 3. The NCAA average is 35.1%. So they really aren't dependent on the three. Plus they do other things well like defend. They don't foul. They don't turn the ball over. I do agree about the lack of depth and I think that hurt them last night.

Do you know a team reliant on the 3 ball? Villanova. They take 48.3% of their shots from there. OU isn't a one trick pony here

I respectfully disagree. In this generation, most often Defense wins titles:
2015 Dook 68-63
2014 UConn 60-54
2013 UL 83-76
2012 UK 67-59
2011 UConn 53-41
2010 Dook 61-59

If the season ended tonight, I say yes.

Valentine has missed time and Simmons is on a mediocre team. Hield has the numbers and team success backing him.

I think Kris Dunn is the best player. Watch him sometime. He's fairly identical to John Wall. Eeerily similar watching them play.

And OU is up there, but Kansas is still the better team imo. OU played their tails off last night, but as someone said each game is different. They also were fortunate to beat Iowa St at home the game before (Monte Morris missed a wide open 3 with 6 seconds left that he usually makes and would have done it).

And as for last night's game, I thought they were beneficiaries of some highly suspect calls at teh end of the half and regulation with phantom fouls on Hield. And needed 46 out of him to be there. That's 13 more than he's ever scored. Him and Woodard played as well as they can play, and wouldn't necessarily duplicate that again. Although Cousins didn't shoot it as well as he is capable.

That's the problem with OU for me. They rely on 4 guys to do all of the scoring. They have zero depth, and as such, have a smaller margin for error than some other teams like Kansas, etc, that have guys that can step up on given nights. I also don't think OU's defense is consistently good. Think it's because of the lack of depth in that they have to conserve energy and avoid foul trouble.

Also, OU has pretty much started the same guys the last 3-4 years. They are a finished product, and have no more room for improvement at this point. Other teams still can improve. Kansas being one if they can work Diallo in at some point.

Yeah but Duke had a great offense last year as did Wisconsin...who beat the defensive juggernaut in UK.

Kruger is a good coach. The players are darn good. Buddy is something. I live in OKC. Normally don't pay attention to OU Basketball but these guys are good, really good. I think they would be a handful for the CATS. Go Big Blue...knock the snot our of LSU!

I disagree. I thought Kansas locked Oklahoma up from the end of regulation on. Their offense was basically weaves and 3s...but Hield and Woodard just didn't miss. Sometimes there is nothing the D can do about it- see last night and UK-Duke '92 as examples.

I think both teams played strong defense. I know you look a the score sheet and say 100-plus both teams and one guy went off for 46 points. But I think a game like this you have to go with an eye-test. Buddy Hield would have sold his soul for a victory. He is the POY hands down. This team will be tough to beat in Norman.

While I suspect they will take us in Lawrence, I still have a hard time believing any team that starts Hunter Mickleson is all that and a ball bat!

The fifth starting spot is a rotation right now. Whomever can play productive minutes. Traylor came in and pumped energy. Lucas came in played weak side help and grabbed rebounds. When Diallo or Bragg step up, they will get that fifth spot. It is a matter of time.
