Look who's on campus, #BBN! @WynyardTai

Uhmmm... yeah... he'll be playing, not red-shirting.

I predict Cal will use him at least 5 mins against UL, just so he can say to Rick: "What? This guy? I just picked him up off a bus. Man, he really took your team to the woodshed."

If nothing at all, he will bring physicality and toughness. He will definitely be able to carve space down low. I am sure Briscoe can attest to how physical he can be...

I say play him. Worse case it is 5 more fouls. Go big man by committee since you aren't getting irreplaceable minutes from Skal. Tale them to be physical and not to give up anything easy. 5 more fouls lets Poy,Willis, Humphries, Skal, Lee, and now Tai be extremely physical without worry of serious fouls trouble.

The flaw in this is that it doesn't give Skal the opportunity to play through this.

Skal's been godawful the last three games as we all know, but before this stretch he was at around 16 and 5. Not tremendous, still soft at times, but those numbers suggest a high ceiling.

The "At least he's 5 more fouls" theory that fans throw out is flawed logic. Because if a player isn't ready to play, he isn't ever going to be out there long enough to give you those five fouls. And just giving you "five fouls" in the college game, where possessions are a premium, is basically worthless. It sounds good but in reality it's meaningless.

I agree that this team desperately needs more toughness, but if Wynyard is going to contribute he has to be able to actually play the game. Being a body isn't enough.

Thanks to Jon Scott's fabulous website, we can find the answer. Wildcat big men who have scored forty or more points in a game are:

- Dan Issel - 9 times
- Cliff Hagan - twice (I realize that he would not be considered a big man by today's criteria, but he did play the C/PF positions in his era)
- Bob Burrow - 3 times
- Melvin Turpin - twice
- Bill Spivey - twice
- Tayshaun Prince - once
Kind of surprised that Mel did it twice and that Sam's not on the list
