You know how there are certain people who just don't like Cal? Well sometimes those people are the parents of high level recruits.

Last year, Thomas Bryant's Mom was one of those people. A year later, her son is in the middle of the dumpster fire that is IU, has already had some bad publicity and a run-in with the law due to the lack of discipline surrounding that program, is publicly arguing with his "point guard" for refusing to pass him the ball, probably playing for a lame duck coach, and after a year of experience will not have improved one iota as an NBA prospect.

Mama Bryant wanted her boy to be the focus so he could get that money. At least that's my guess.

Every year there seems to be one top 5 guy that seems to be completely off UK's radar. I consider it an indictment on the player if Calipari is targeting every top 15 guy EXCEPT you. I find it hard to believe that any top high school player would tell Cal I don't want to even consider playing for you so I have to assume Cal has seen something that makes him think that guy is not right for our program.

And she chose to put her sons fate in Tom Crean's hands over John Calapari? Have fun watching your son play in that dumpster fire program momma Bryant.

I've read Jackson's mother is crazy....Cal doesn't really deal with players or parents with character concerns these days.

If his mom is crazy, she'd be in an ever growing line of those type who happen to have kids with great God given athletic ability. I also remember there being rumors this kid would go overseas to play and skip college, but he denied it.

It's simple. If Cal recruits him, we won't be able to have 3 threads a month on here about why Cal isn't recruiting him.

It's a ploy to drive up website traffic.

Cal said it himself, he'll gauge a potential recruit's interest. If they aren't he'll move on, not pester the young man in an attempt to change his mind like some other coaches.

I'm not sure why people still wonder about things like this. Cal has shown he knows what he is doing when it comes to the recruiting game. If a kid doesn't want to play for Cal, i promise you it's his loss and not Cals. Cal will just recruit a guy as good, if not better than you. I'm sure next season we will find out why this kid wasn't interested in Cal and most of our fans will still question it. You can question a few things about Cal, but recruiting is not one of those things.

I think Cal's recruiting has gotten to the point that if he doesn't offer a kid in the top 10 it's because the kid has made it clear he's staying close to home, has a clear favorite, or has issues Cal doesn't want to deal with. I'll even go as far as to say that a lot of NBA personel take note of who Cal stays away from.

Everything you said was correct but it's two things: #1 he is the number one ranked recruit. Any time UK doesn't even offer the number one ranked player everybody is going to wonder what is going on? #2 I believe we recruited every other player in the top 15 of the class. So it is very conspicuous that we didn't offer him. I get the weird fascination with the situation lol

EDIT: I went and looked and we only didn't recruit 3 of the top 15. Josh Jackson, Lonzo Ball, and Frank Jackson but Ball and F. Jackson are both PG's and we choose to recruit Fox, Smith, and Simmons.

I'm good with whatever Cal decides , seems that every time Cal misses or doesn't go for a player it looks good in hindsight . We usually seem to dodge problems other than maybe Kanter which was a long shot .

Maybe because he preferred Monk at shooting guard and either Gabriel or Bridges at the wing forward spot?

Rankings aren't everything and just because UK passed on this kid doesn't mean there's something crazy going on behind the scene. Could just be a case of UK preferring the other guys.

Didn't you know ? Josh is a Kansas lean, and he and somebody else is a package deal to Kansas like always ,Cal knows he can't compete with the Kansas lean and package deal thing, so no since wasting his time lol !

From what I had heard, cal actually did offer him a long while back. But never said much after that. Just kinda said "hi" at recruiting events. Either because of the crazy mom thing or that Jackson kinda said "thanks but no thanks" and he moved on.

Problem is you have to be talented, something Bryant lacks. Maybe Troy Williams' mother and Bryant's can start a campaign of thief disdain for Crean

Cal should always recruit the number 1 guy according to experts.

On a serious note, and this is no slam to the west coast but it seems we have much more success with guys that play here in the east. I know lee is from California and he's ok. When was the last time we had a super stud from the west coast? Sometimes I think being homesick and the style they play there rather than here factor in. It's a little late so if I forgot someone from the west coast who was great here not named chuck Hayes, or prince please forgive.

That's exactly right. If Cal is not recruiting a top 5 guy, something's wrong with that player.
Let's be thankful that Cal and his staff do a great job of weeding out the head cases.

What evidence do you guys have to call this kid a headcase or his mom crazy? This reminds me of all the haters who say our guys don't go to class but have never met them and don't know a thing about them.

I wonder if it is an eligibilty issue. He has not taken any official visits yet, which seems odd this late into his senior year.

yeah, we should keep the character attacks to a minimum. some kids just don't know what's best for them, and josh appears to fit squarely into that camp. kansas or arizona would be terrible decisions for this young man.

I also read somewhere that Jackson had no interest in UK. Cal does a very great job of getting young men that have good character and coming from a good family. There must be something about Jackson that we don' know and Cal is not the type of coach that would let that be know. We are blessed to have Cal.

Yes UK offered, he just never visited or hasn't to this point anyway.
True but the thread is suggesting that Kentucky has not offered, which is leading to everyone giving their opinions as to why not. Unless ESPN is wrong they have offered so Coach Cal must want him
