Well, I see Mark is ducking and dodging once again. Boy would it be nice if you would actually answer a question. But, unfortunately, that is too much to expect. Oh well, I guess I'll have to move you to the ignore column...maybe I'll check back in with you in a few weeks to see if you have learned how to do so. Until then, keep up the UNC hate and misunderstandings, it's really working here so far.

Oh yeah, are you seriously saying the majority of professors require attendance in their lectures? Maybe in a few weeks when I check back with you you'll have figured out exactly what you're trying to say and can explain it better.

Well, I guess I'll give you some time to google "how to answer questions". Later.

Hmm, aside from supporting the biggest academic cheating scandal of all time and the pit of filth that did it, Bobbi has displayed another trait consistent with that cesspool.

He's a coward.

Welp that is their policy, and the have the ability to set it. Just like professors who choose to leave it up to the students. Still waiting for you to explain why not having mandatory attendance is bad and should be changed.

You do have a good point. Peppers and McCants had higher grades in classes that they didn't have to attend. In fact, RM made the Dean's List in a semester that he never went to class. UNC has now shown the nation how to educate high risk students.

Maybe you can do a documentary on how a diploma mill is better than a real university. That would be interesting and I would give you a donation to get it started. I'm sure Roy would too.

Who needs to attend class when no one is Chapel Hill has any morals?

SACS and the NCAA must not have explained this to Dean Smith and Swofford when they were creating this diploma mill.

Congrats to all those athletes who graduated from Chapel Hill with AFAM credits; you should be proud of your degree that you didn't earn.

I never said attendance policies were for babies. I said to expect a university professor to take attendance in lecture is ridiculous. I know you expect professors to hold the hands of their students, but I feel that if a kid is going to college then it's high time they learn to be responsible. I also think it's even worse for a law school (or grad school, med school) etc. to take attendance, it sets the wrong example, imo. You should so up to lecture to learn something, if you don't care enough then you'll be out at the end of the semester, or if you already know it then why waste your time. You feel differently as well as the Duke policy you quoted earlier.

No comment. Just bumping this post for another poster to see.

Just a couple of things. One, how many LD or AD(H)D players does UK, or State, or etc. have on their football team? Surely you did that research before you threw out UNC's numbers, implying it was a lot. Second, how many classes in college did you go to that took attendance? It's not high school, very few professors/TAs give you a grade for just showing up. Most professors tend to base a students grade off of how well they grasped the concepts/how good they are at applying the concepts/etc., not if they just showed up to class. If the professor thinks having players getting up to leave half-way through will distract those wanting to be there then they should tell the players not to show up only to get "credit" from their coaches for attending.

Bumping this post too.

Once again, I find it hard to believe that this oddity (of university professors taking attendance) occurred at such a high rate for you or preacherfan. I find it even more amusing that 75% of your courses in law school would be taught by professors that think that you're of such dire need to be forced to attend class that they would sit with a register calling out names and ticking them off. Did you have to ask to leave class early? Must you present a note from a doctor if you missed class? Were you allowed to go to the bathroom, of did that require a hall pass and an ok from the professor? I seriously doubt Duke university professors think it's beneficial or necessary to run their lectures like a middle-school classroom. No, I'm convinced they, like all other professors at the university level, feel that if you're there to learn then you'll show up for lecture if it's beneficial to your learning/progression...otherwise you'd probably not be spending all that money. But, I guess I could be wrong, and Duke must babysit their students and hold their hands through their collegiate life...something tells me that this is not the case.

And, one other bump.

UNC may have different policies than Pitt, but I can tell you we are strongly encouraged to take attendance in our classes because some types of federal aid are tied to it. We can be required to show documentation of student attendance, and if we can't, it is bad news for us and for the student involved.

Also, whenever we have an athlete in our classes, we are REQUIRED to keep record of their attendance, and we then submit it to the AD's office.

Based on Bobby's comments, I guess some schools just simply care more about making sure their athletes are going to class than others.

Just as a way to recap....Bobby played the part of Custer and Rupp Rafters played the part of the native Americans. Custer loses again.

I can't wait for the documentary! If it is half as bad as these lame attempts to defend UNC on this board by Bobby, it is going to be another massacre! Of course, I continue to say that the film is a bad idea, even from the UNC perspective.

How do you defend 2 players turning in the same paper for a "paper class" in which that paper is the ONLY assignment? Yet, they are told to re-write the papers and turn them in again. Isn't it obvious that the players never went to class and never did any reading or research? So, they get a week or two to go back and write a paper based on what? I never had a class like that and received 3 credit hours! Yet, at UNC, that is fine and dandy!

No, you seem to be missing the point on this. What do you think it means to "request a course?"

EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not asking this as a rhetorical question. I'm asking for a response on what you think that phrase means.

Since Bobby seems to be pretty adamant about people answering his questions, figured I'd go ahead and bump this.

Seems like Bobby has to "ignore" posters who make him look like a fool. I suppose I should feel honored.

I certainly wouldn't let it bother me. I had him on ignore for awhile when I thought he was just a kid. Frankly, I was a bit ashamed I'd been so rough on him. Then it became obvious that he was an adult, I lost all respect for the guy. After that, I think he's had me on ignore for weeks. He still provides an invitation to expound on that institution of filth that he supports.

I frankly think Dep lacks the experience to comment on the matter. While we've not always seen eye to eye, Dep serves a very respectable university at Pitt. I'm not sure he has much background in teaching at a school which is on probation by SACS, offers classroom courses without the expectation of the student visiting that classroom, nor schools which accept bogus term papers. I doubt he has done anything to assist an athlete staying eligible without the coursework to back it up.

Lacking this experience, how is he supposed to know what is and isn't normal at a such sleezy institution such as the one Bobbi supports?

Now that I think of it, I also lack that experience as does every other legitimate poster on this board. Only guy I know that has experience with Scum Bag U is Bobbi. If he says its normal for athletes not to attend class at NC, I believe him!

It appears UNC is going to walk on this. It has been a few years now and nothing has happened. Guess the NCAA hopes everyone just forgets about it.

The biggest travesty would be UNC winning the National Championship this year. It would always have an asterisk beside it and some other school would be denied the celebration. A complete travesty.

I will wait to hear what the Committee on Infractions has to say before I think they walk. If they walk then I will pretty much watch UK and that will be it. No reason to tune to any other games as college sports will be as fake as pro wrestling.

Not like it really matters. They'd just be replacing the one the NCAA is going to vacate anyways.

You know, if an outsider were to fall onto this forum they'd most likely think UK fans care more about UNC than they do UK. It's always odd to me to see NC State fans obsess over all-things UNC. I never thought I'd see UK fans do this...then again, who says you are UK fans, I guess you could be NC State fans moonlighting as UK fans. I guess even when UNC is a hot-mess in basketball they're still the talk of everyone's town. I can't imagine the envy and hate when they were actually good.
This post is funny and ironic on so many different levels. You wonder why college basketball fans all around the country talk about unc? Because unc, as previously stated, has built the most corrupt athletic department and more specifically basketball program in possibly the history of college basketball. Nobody talks about unc because they like them, care about their team or are obsessed with them which makes me laugh just typing it. It is solely because people want to see justice for the decades of lying and cheating that brought unc some success in basketball. It's not difficult to do well when you're not playing by the rules and are operating on an unequal playing field. It's not difficult to get an A on a paper that somebody else wrote for you. I think it's hilarious that unc fans are getting that worked up and excited about a commitment from brandon robinson. Especially with all the in state talent in 2016 that unc is going to get absolutely none of. I hope you're used to it because this is a recruiting trend that's going to continue as unc basketball slowly declines over the next several years. Bobby I hope you'll be tuning in to seventh woods press conference tomorrow morning to see yet another recruit choose a school not named unc

Actually, I'm not sure that the NCAA is bound to consider ONLY what UNC publicly discloses. If they have an internal memo then that is fair game or if they end up in a "Walks like a duck, talks like a duck . . ." situation, then so far as UNC is concerned, the NCAA is free to apply whatever label they chose.

Since the NCAA is essentially a "private club" of universities (I despise putting NC in that context), the committee on infractions is not obligated to extend due process to its member institutions. This has been tested in court, if memory serves. If the NCAA were to go after moon pie or any of the other guilty individuals, then issues of discovery, chain of custody, weight of evidence, etc come into play.

This is largely why I feel that its entirely possible that the NCAA could potentially decimate NC but let Moon Pie and others involved skate unless NC deals with them as the confines of the various contracts allow.

If this happens, I'm pretty sure Bobbi's head will explode as he'll rant about the inconsistency of it all. But the den could fall and the thieves walk since the NCAA is not a court of law. And NC has no rights as a voluntary member of the NCAA. The NCAA is accountable to the constitution and the law where individuals are concerned.

For academic fraud cases, their hands are tied. NCAA waits until the Institution's review process makes a determination according to the school's policy. The NCAA then uses that decision.

A good illustration of this was the Chase Kalisz case at Georgia. Near the end of a semester, the swimming coach asked a professor to add Kalisz to an independent study. He also asked that the professor give him an incomplete until he finished the work in the spring (the professor initially gave Kalisz a passing grade despite the fact he didn't do any work). Otherwise, Kalisz ran the risk of being academically ineligible.

Georgia caught this and self reported it to the NCAA. NCAA mentioned in the initial discussion that this might constitute academic misconduct. However, they needed to wait until Georgia finished their review. Per the report:

Specifically, the parties discussed the possibility that the head coach had participated or was otherwise involved in academic misconduct that could give rise to an unethical conduct violation and/or impermissible benefits violation. The institution's academic review process needed to determine whether academic fraud had occurred as defined under institutional policy. On February 18, 2014, the institution's academic review process concluded that academic fraud had not occurred.

It's simply how the process works and why UNC goes to great lengths to use words like irregular or anomalous when describing what was patently fraud.

UNC could have salvaged a good portion of their reputation had they came out and condemned this with self inflicted penalties . At that point their claims of being above this sort of thing would have been bolstered with action . But everything they have done is the exact opposite , they have come off as dirty from top to bottom and their every effort is geared towards fleeing justice . Run for your lives you little Tar Heel cheaters !

I think the thing that's missing here is precedent. It is difficult to predict what the NCAA will do as no precedent exists for the magnitude of the academic 'fraud'. The length of time, independent findings by SACS, number of students involved all converge to make this case completely unique. It is of sufficient magnitude to be a game changer. Further, the NCAA is simply not bound by precedent, rules or process as regards the member institutions. The NCAA is confronted by the single biggest case of academic corruption in history.

I do not think there is a middle ground here. The NCAA has two choices. Decimate NC or totally undermine their own credibility to operate as a governance body. I've spent a good deal of time trying to find something similar to this to see what the NCAA has done previously. I failed to find anything even close.

Granted, the NCAA may wait for NC to come out with their findings. Buys them time. If those findings fail to withstand peer review by member institutions, then the NCAA really has a mess. I still believe the sport comes out better off if that happens. Ideally critical and lasting damage is inflicted on NC. If that is not done, then I fully expect the member institutions to lose confidence in the NCAA to govern their major sports programs. If that fails to happen, then we know NCAA basketball is little more than a laughing stock. It has become entertainment and not athletics.

I'd hate to think we've been watching professional wrestling all these years. An extreme view? Perhaps. But extreme things happen when integrity is lost.

Given the law suit regarding lack of reimbursement of college athletes for their work and the NCAA's claim that they are given an education as reimbursement, they logically can't let UNC***** get away with this academic fraud even if UNC******* insists that it is just "anomalous" classes. If they do go along with UNC****, they should lose the law suit which will end the NCAA as an organization.

BTW, the definition of "anomalous" is deviating from what is standard, normal, or expected. Is that so much better than fraud? It is simply a word to soften the impact but it means the same. If someone tries to hire me for an anomalous job or sell me a car that drives anomalously, I'm not going there. I'd say a lecture class that has no lectures qualifies as "anomalous" but is a fine representation of the education that UNC***** provides.

Bradley Bethel is updating his film project on a podcast at Inside Carolina. Says that he has shown the film to some focus groups and edited the film based on feedback. (I won't link the podcast but I have to say that the quality of the interviewer leaves a lot to be desired.)

The interviewer is saying that he wants Bradley to basically burn Williingham and Smith in a public parking lot fire. Okay, that was unbelievably strange! I replayed it and it still sounds strange! Kinda ironic because Bethel has blasted Jay Smith for a private email about hoping Provost Dean's plane crashes.

Bethel is going off about how this was not an athletic scandal and he is putting the blame on two people. Bradley says that he is giving a voice to those who didn't have a voice before (doesn't address the fact that so many refused to cooperate with KW or the NCAA).

Interviewer going off about how many were painted as villains. Bradley is complaining about boiling the story down to heroes vrs villains. (So, isn't Willingham and Smith being made villains?)

Bradley saying he didn't really have enough money. He only raised less than $200K and now he is asking for more money. They say they will pre-sell tickets to raise money. Need money for post-production and distribution for a JANUARY release! Then, he wants to enter the film in film festivals to get national attention.

Now, they are just doing a promo on trying to get people buy the pre-sale tickets.

BTW, if Bradley is reading this, he needs to work on his interviewing skills. He needs to drop that stupid laugh in response to comments by the interviewer. He sounds like a junior high kid. It was annoying.

In the podcast, the interviewer is going off on a sermon about how EVERYONE involved was just trying to do their job and this really did come down to a few rogues(my word, not his).

So, there you have it. UNC, according to these two guys, is an institution of virtue and integrity.

I do find the rogue defense to be amusing. So if Jaime Lee (athletics academic counselor) asks Nyang'oro to add a specific paper class to the course schedule, is this still considered a rogue act by Nyang'oro?

I said early on that this project was doomed from the start. I have a kid who works in the film business and I know SOME of what it takes to pull off a project like this. I figured Bradley would be begging for money before this ever was finished. Anyone who gave money in the first round should be a bit miffed that Bradley wasn't honest enough to say he was going to have to raise a lot more cash.

On top of the financial issues, issues like the one you listed are going to be hard to deal with. UNC has been charged with LOIC. Bradley seem to think that the charge was "failure to monitor." This is going to be fun to follow. I have a feeling Bradley has had some sleepless nights. He is clearly over his head.

Invalid correlation. The fate of UNC is in the hands of the COI and unless members of the COI are telling Roy and/or recruits what they are going to do, the recruits don't know what is about to happen.

At this point, the most we can assume is that Roy is telling recruits that nothing is going to happen and some of them are believing it or that some recruits are willing to just take the chance.

I listened to the Bethel interview. More of the same. A lot of generalizations but nothing specific as to exactly how the media has wronged UNC in this scandal. He also talks about how he wants to defend people at UNC that he's worked with and doesn't want them scape-goated, but then goes on to seem to want to scape-goat Crowder & Nyang'oro exclusively for a scandal that went on for nearly twenty years, and even continued after they left.

As far as the film, my assumption is that he continues to string this along but at some point he's going to need to face the music. I fully expect his film to be a sham, just like oversight of UNC athletics has been a sham for decades.

The one thing I agree with him is that people and events are never black and white. But the same is true with respect to Mary Willingham and Jay Smith and Dan Kane as it is with Debbie Crowder and Julius Nyang'oro and Wayne Walden and Roy Williams.

It seems a little delusional on his part that he's going to pre-sell enough tickets to finish his film, and then once it's released it's going to magically take off, fueled by entry into various film festivals etc. Maybe I'm off-base but I kind of doubt the "$500,000 film" that he's making on less than $200,000 and editing in his living room is going to generate a lot of buzz at a film festival. He'd be better off (and better off for any misguided donors who actually sent him money) just cutting his losses and releasing it on YouTube.

BTW, I have to wonder what UNC thinks about this film, especially if it's released in the middle of their most promising basketball season in years. If the film isn't everything he wants it to be, it could backfire and be a distraction and embarrassment (and after PackPride gets done with it, that's by far the most likely outcome.)
