The struggle to see the middle is exactly because you see everything as black and white. One thing is the same as another thing, even though the circumstances are entirely different. The cop in the Capitol shooting had no time to determine that it was an unarmed female - he just saw that she was the tip of the spear of a mob frothing at the mouth. It was his duty to protect the members of Congress and had every right to believe they had bad intentions. I know you know this.

Every situation has to be judged on it's own merits rather than comparing it to another - one shooting doesn't equal another just because they both involved guns. For instance, I can understand why the officer in the Ohio shooting shot the girl, because when you see the slowed down footage, she was a second away from slashing the other girl's throat with a six inch blade. I can make the case that it was justified. That doesn't mean all police shootings are justified. I can understand the dilemma of split second decisions but that's really not what we're talking about with many of the others we've seen over the last few years.

And as far as Lebron and Maxine Waters go, they were both wrong to say what they did. I can parse what qualifies as a justified killing and what doesn't. I know you can as well if you want to.

I would absolutely not imply that you're anti-anything, it's not my place to say or speak for you. It was a general statement around opposing views on the board, nothing more than that. Apologies if it read differently.

It's not about the actual shooting, it's about the process after. The shooting in Ohio already has a pro-basketball player and the white house tweeting out photos of the cop with "you're next" and racism undertones in tow and that man potentially saved someone's life. The woman at the Capitol was unarmed, didn't pose much physical threat and she was on the receiving end of the only weapon discharge that day. Now, personally for me.....you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes but the point here is that that police officer was protected from the media and didn't stand any sort of trial like these other officers are being forced to do. I can't help but think these are politically influenced outcomes.......am I wrong?

My point here is, I find it unsettling that there can be outrage over the Ohio shooting or the Daunte Wright shooting but not the Capitol shooting. We can spend an eternity pointing out the gray areas but the black and white is either you support the use of force or you don't. If you do, you accept that split second decisions can't be subjected to slowed down versions and hindsight and if you don't, then all of them are bad and there should be outrage. I'm struggling to see the middle here.

Can you please provide evidence of the White House tweeting “you’re next” regarding the Ohio shooting? Looking and looking and the only reference I can find is the press secretary calling the shooting tragic.

Yes, she spoke about systemic racism but she did not label this incident as being "racially motivated" like the headline that Dnesh D'Souza wrote. And if you are going to claim to be fair and balanced, you probably should not be getting your news from Dinesh D'Souza, a known conspiracy theorist.

You asked in an earlier post why we were not outraged about the capitol policeman shooting an unarmed woman. Really? We have eyes for one and are able to make unbiased, objective decisions.

Cell phone cameras have changed the game. We used to hear about a policeman shooting a black suspect and all we had as evidence was the policeman's body cam. 9 times out of then the body cam video was "malfunctioning" or off during the incident. I agree with the White House that the death of that 16 year old girl was tragic. Also though, I can see the video of her getting ready to stab that other girl so I feel the policeman was justified to shoot her. I also strongly feel that the capitol policeman was justified in shooting the chick that was attacking the capitol. We all saw the video. He, his fellow officers, congress and the VP were literally under attack. It wasn't a traffic stop or an inquiry into whether someone was passing a counterfeit $20 bill.
