A petition is gathering steam for the removal of the confederate carving on the granite mountain. I was there as a boy and remember seeing it, but for those who have never seen it may want to visit before it is removed.

What are they gonna do, blow it up with dynamite? Crybaby Libs, get It together
I'm pretty sure most people aren't going there for that.Millions of dollars in taxes are collected each year from there. Pick out several thousand protesters who receive government assistant and tell them no longer will they be receiving benifiets. It will stop quickly.
Do you actually believe that?Better visit any monument you can soon. America makes me very sad right now.
Once all the confederate stuff is gone they will go after the founders. Once all the founders are gone they will go after the constitution. Once the constitution is gone our country and what it stands for is gone.
Yes I really believe that 100%.Do you actually believe that?

There is already a thread on......wait for it.....FGF on whether Clemson would change our name & remove TGC's statue. To their credit, some of the posts are rational and mention they have plenty of buildings named after slaveholders (NTM part of their campus was built by slaves and with materials made by slaves. And, their presidents, faculty & possibly the university itself owned slaves).Im curious not if but when is Thomas G Clemson and Ben Tillman erased from the history books. Ole Thomas has a pretty historical monument named after him.
I wonder when was the last time that any of the TI gang visited this park? Please respond.
Not making any particular argument here, but to get a grasp of this general issue it's important to learn when a lot of these monuments went up (1920s-50s, when white supremacy was a major movement and people were rebelling against civil rights and the notion that all humans are created equal).
Regardless of what side you are on, it's important context.

I agree, Larry. That's why the flag was put on the state house dome. Should've come down. Just feel that Stone Mountain is a historic work of art that is fairly benign in its depiction. Others will disagree. Just one person's opinion of course.
I disagree completely with your logic.Yes I really believe that 100%.
So the monuments were put up to patronize African Americans by the leadership of white supremacy casts. If true Im completely against this sort of action which I will research this tonight. This is what Larry is referring too.

I do...when have you ever seen these people get what they want & just stop? They always want more...Do you actually believe that?
The mountain will still be there for people to enjoy. What makes you think the sculpture is benign?I agree, Larry. That's why the flag was put on the state house dome. Should've come down. You do understand that most of these monuments were built by white supremacists who were trying to fight the civil rights movements. These were men who indeed wanted to watch the world burn.I do...when have you ever seen these people get what they want & just stop? They always want more...
I think you underestimate the George Soros-types of this country...some just want to see this nation burn...

The KKK had a tremendously strong grip (not just in the South, either). The leading scientific minds were trumpeting Eugenics.
