Tom, Women's BB forum?

It's ok. They are just bitter at me for not doing what they wanted over three years ago. Talk about holding a grudge. Maybe it's best if I just eliminate the free forums like most sites have already done. One less headache for something I think is nice for fans to have to talk about Iowa sports with their fellow Hawkeye fans.
I’m not up on all of this so I don’t have any axe to grind, and frankly I don’t care if there is one basketball board or two, but in this transition period I would think you would catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

How am I being stubborn? I said let's see how it goes for a month and then make a decision. In what world is that stubborn? I think that is fair. You guys want the forum? Show me by starting actual womens hoops discussions instead of this sideshow.

It just seems like folks are more interested in grinding a grudge from three or four years ago when my hands were tied, as I have explained, and I have said I am more than willing to see if the turnout and discussions merit it happening.

Choice is up to you folks. How about we start talking womens basketball?
Why not wait til all the women’s threads come over hear rather than starting other threads? If something happens we will but there isn’t massive activity right now. Again you seem to be quite defensive and don’t seem interested in doing it. Question is why, is it more work, is it more costly? I honestly don’t understand. To me it’s like creating another folder on the computer but maybe I am naive as to what it involves. Right now seems like the best time to add it especially when you have a group that is interested, a transition that will cause several threads to find a home from the women’s forum. To me it seems like you would be creating more work down the line if you create a women’s forum and having to go through all the threads in the basketball forum and separate between women’s and men’s. I would assume your hands aren’t tied now so if you thought it was a good idea then when your hands were tied you would think it would be a good idea when we have shown the proof of concept is good. But you never created it here when you have been here for 3 years. This is my last post on the subject. You will run it as you wish. And maybe I’m being like a child saying I want it now lol.

As a paid member for Rivals, my #1 site that I visit is the WBB forum daily. Including today—except tonight the switch happened and it’s gone. Unclear if the infamous 400-page string (or whatever) running chat on CC, Kate, Megan, WNBA will return or if just not figuring out where it is, but am already in withdrawal mode. While enjoying other sports, that was a forum long desired and the activity proved it. Of course, fair question if everyone else makes the jump or chooses to jump off this train…
Same here - Women's BB forum was always my first stop. Sure hoping it's added again. I went monthly subscription for this very reason - to see where this goes.

I'm on the same page as you: I'll wait a month and see how it goes - that's why I went monthly for the subscription.

Those are all in process. Not sure when it will happen, but they are doing various sites today. Not sure where we call on that list.
Thanks. I figured it was because I already had an account here.

I'm happy to do the extra work if that's what it comes to in a month. No problem moving things around. All I am asking for is a month to see how things go and if the conversations justify another forum being created. It's not a no. Far from it. Just asking for some patience instead of being ripped apart at every turn over just being honest and not dismissing doing it at all. If I was here saying absolutely not, deal with one hoops forum then rip me. Not saying that at all.

I'd just encourage you and others to start threads talking women's hoops instead of dwelling in this thread looking for ways to say I am not doing what some folks want. Being completely honest, if On3 had their choice, I'd only have a pay forum and that's it. That's almost the standard now. No men's or women's free forums. Even though they are a headache at times like this, I've always thought it was important to have a place for fans who don't want to be subscribers, even if it creates more work moderating a site. Being completely honest with you, it's times like these where I wonder if free forums are still worth it given the tone of some of the responses. All I have asked for is a month to see what the traffic looks like and then decide. Not a year. Not six months. Four weeks. That's all.

Hopefully you are using the same email address. I think that will help.
On that topic, the account I'm logged in with now is a new one using an alternate email address ...not the one I used on Rivals.

When I attempt to log in here using the Rivals credentials (email/password) it's telling me they are not recognized.

I've attempted to do that every day since Tuesday without luck and getting the same error message each time.

I opened a case with [email protected] (ID#: 154544) on Tuesday but haven't heard back since they confirmed the case was opened.

Any chance you can escalate? If not, I'll continue to wait patiently and use this new account.

Tom I understand what you are saying but this is also just a conversation. Your company bought out and displaced us posters, we were used to a certain setup and it’s changed. If On3 or you goes to pay only it’s your choice. Limiting footprint and awareness isn’t necessarily a good business model either. I don’t see any trolls in this thread primarily those who just have a different viewpoint. Happy 4th all.

As much as I want a separate WBB forum, I never paid anything on Rivals and probably won't here. I appreciate anyone's effort to make my world better.

For me, this all started with Jon Miller's email HawkeyeNation emailed newsletter. I didn't realize that it was put out by my former student until Jon responded, "Mr. Calkins! Is that you?" Jon was my middle school student at the start of my teaching career, so it was a couple of years ago.

How rare is this? Both created their accounts at the same time. Incredible. ;)
We are not the same person, if that is what you implying. Didn’t this site start on or about 1-1-23? I’m sure there are others with the same start date.

Not at all. Just want the people that seem to be experts get rewarded for their insights by starting their own board. Pretty simple really
Are you a programmer, moderator, creator, or owner of a site? Are you qualified to make these statements? Do you want to limit expression? Simply stated.

There's appears to be more traffic for the women than the men from what I have seen the past year.
All true, BUT to this point I'm sure many still attribute this to CC22, (and yes I know she was not at Iowa last season), but the whole Fever thing kept it going all spring and summer. I would imagine they are taking a wait and see attitude.

There was a separate women's forum on the rivals board, and it was very busy . . . busier than the men's, for obvious reasons. The men's will pick up this season, but I think the women's basketball interest is real and ain't goin' anywhere anytime soon. IMHO, of course. It may have something to do with the Caitlin Clark impact, two national title appearances in the last three years . . . stuff like that . . . while the men haven't even been able to make the tourney. I think that's gonna change as soon as next season, but I, for one, will still be following the Hawkeye women too.

And FWIW, my posts and points and whatever from the rivals site did not automatically transfer over here. And from the looks of things, not much of anyone else's did either.
Did you just say that the Clark effect and two championships runs "may" have had something to do with it? And then last year she wins ROTY in the W and sets the league on fire. Probably did have something to do with it.

Tom, I’m not bitter. Honestly I saw the women’s forum as an excellent addition on rivals . To me it’s more like you may being a little stubborn, and that’s just an honest observation and I’m not trying to be petty. The suggestion was brought up before and yes the forum never got created for whatever reason. So you should be able to understand some skepticism when it appears you are trying to push it out for a month utiliIng a metric that may be difficult to measure women’s or men’s posts. I was a paying member for a little under a decade but stopped when I had kids. I still enjoy coming to a community to cheer on Hawks, and the best forum for that the last 3 years was the women’s free forum. You had 20-30 fairly active posters that were pretty level heads with not a lot of BS. There may be difference of opinion but these are your fan forums. Your company purchased the rivals site to increase usership. 1. I would think it’s prudent to be welcoming even if you think we are being snarky 2. Be willing to try it. I understand there is likely a lot of work with the transition, and would understand it that argument had you made it. I struggle to see how you can monitor traffic and that’s all I was saying. At least you have active free boards again 😉.
Maybe you should back off a bit until the dust settles on this transition before we all have to pay to even be on here......:(

I had the same issue, and had to use a different email to get on. I sent a email to support, and received ticket, but I'm sure they have 10's of thousands of these to work through....

I was one that was asking for a WBB board long before CC, just so you'd know.

For Gods sake, MUST we already do this? Why badger the guy who runs the forum when he CLEARLY said they will look at it. They're still setting this up after just 3 or 4 days in the transition. And like he said, we could end up with NO free forum, but hey lets just keep poking the bear. Make sense right?

KC - I made 3-4 logical posts. If that is going to cause the free boards to go there is a bigger issue than me making some good arguments on the validity of a womens board. Just go look at the football board or offtopic board anything posted here is incredibly mild. He wants to monitor the traffic to decide, in the summer for a winter sport that has minimal information going on right now. Meaning we won't have the traffic for him to justify it. I was more put off on how he responded to me and others. Saying he created the basketball forum, basically to appease us, and a place we could complain about him and that we have had hostility towards him. At no time did I say anything hostile. The worst I said is I don't think he wants to have a womens forum for whatever reason. I don't think he is a bad guy at all. I don't know the specific reason why but I don't think he has any intention of making a womens board. So be it. I always said I would give this board a trial period. I have cut out a lot of things in my life this year. I am very tempted to cut out my fandom message board habit as well. I have been following and posting since 2004. In either case I think for me an end of era is coming sooner or later by my choice, Tom's Choice or On3's choice.
