Pitino cried all last season that he did not have a real pg and yet they were very successful because of all the talent elsewhere!

Uhm, I think it is way too early to say we have no point guard. I think there are a number of candidates that will possibly rise to the task. Just need to get more of the games under our belt to see how things shake out. Way too much concern at this point.

What player on this team would u take over last season?
I would take Copeland over Payne and Anderson over Simpkins
Absolutely.

Defense is very good. In this day and age, you need to be good at both but better on offense.

You know why Uconn and St J are great every year? Because they can score the ball very very well and play great defense
And they have double our budget and two of the best coaches in the league

Copeland yes no way would I have taken Anderson over Simpkins. Simpkins knows the system and has shown he can play in the big east.

Simpkins' numbers took a tumble in the BigEast. He was overmatched. Still a nice player but not for 1.5 mil.

Wonder what we paid Anderson or Wilcher though for comparison.

Copeland may be more skilled than Payne, but Payne probably better rebounder.
Payne was horrible offensively and had extreme butterfingers. Guy couldn't hold onto the ball or make a post-up move to save his life. I'm over it. Give me Copeland all day.

A better comparison would be last year's Hines vs this year's Copeland.

Like what Copeland has been doing, but he's not Hines. Not even close IMO.

As for Payne, for all the "butterfingers" stuff, by most metrics I believe he was considered a top 50 player in the Big East and one of the best defensive bigs. He was probably our 3rd best player overall last year when you consider what he did defensively and on the glass. Way, way outperformed my expectations.

Copeland over Payne and Anderson over Simpkins TBD in my view. I don't think it is crazy to think it will play out that way, but in my mind that isn't a lock yet. Whereas I already like Anderson much more than Mike Williams, as an example.

And I wouldn't say "two of the best coaches in the league". I'd say they have the two best coaches in the league, and number 3 isn't particularly close IMO.

They didn't on the offensive end (really), but turned Darling from a high volume offense-only player from a smaller league into a pesky, hard-nosed, tough defender in the Big East. To your point though, they figured out a way to get guys like Dillon Mitchell and Zuby to start initiating offense and to create for others, which they hadn't done previously in their career.

If our PG-scenario doesn't develop more, we'll have to figure out a way to get other guys to create who haven't typically done so in the past.

We have a lot of duplicate parts and needed a pg but Sha swing and missed too many times obviously
It's still early. From TV, I can only imagine how hard it is to play PG for a former great one like Holloway. I think us fans should give it time and what really matters is what it looks like come mid-January.

They also had an all-time SJU great player and BE player of the year, that could have had something to do with it.
An entire front line that was developed into NBA-level players. Everyone is going to strike out in the portal with this ridiculous free agency system we have, so when that happens you either adjust or not.

Some perplexing things, most notably Petrovic getting three minutes especially the way Jones and Parker played.

With the hype on Fanta-Kabba this would be a spot where he should get some PT with Copeland’s foul trouble.

This game did little give me more confidence.
I totally forgot about Kabba. Maybe because of the injury?
