Senior World Championships preview/thread

[Corby2]

Thanks for the updates guy. Flow been laying an egg for me since right before Lee's 2nd match and we're headed to the pheasant fields here soon. What time are semis?

Now Lee is on the mat

[GableBeer]

Spencer stuck in a trap arm gut and somehow gets the pin to move into the finals.

SPENCER GOT TAM LEEEE!!!

[HawkAlum2002]

I think Spencer was expecting a stand up, but when they didn't get it he baited him into that last weaker turn to reverse into the pin. That's what it looked like on replay.

[GableBeer]

Spencer vs RBY for gold tomorrow.

Correct. And he was right

RBY knocks off North Korea to face Spencer for the title.

[HollisterHawk]

I think this ugly win is good for Spencer. Black eye, scratched up battling. Reminds me of the Nato pin at NCAAs

And well before that, I think every rational person on earth was waiting for the officials to hit AZE for a caution + 1 for hands to the face.

That was impossibly blatant - with the worst offense happening (and somehow getting white paddled) right before AZE took and score his first real attack of the match.

[MissouriHawkeye]

I had to hold back screaming this morning when he caught that dude on his back. Lock down and boom!!!!!

[Mattski]

Damn that was REALLY spooky... from down 10-3 to a pin!! We'll take it. Hope he manhandleds RBY and gets an early tech. You know RBYs strategy is going to be to run and try to steal it late.

[MissouriHawkeye]

Lee was in deep end of pool, with arm trapped in the middle of the mat. That match will be infamous for him if he wins it.

Finals are now for 61 70 86 125

[Boomhawk52]

I fell asleep with a beer in my hand and woke up to 10-3 and read pin. I yelled yes. My gf woke up!

[Corby2]

Big wins for Blaze and Wyatt in the team race. And Uguev gets beat. And Zare should win here against the Russian. We are at 170 points now can get to 180 with 2 more wins.

[!Wrestle123!]

What is with the stuffed animals awarded at the medal ceremonies?
USA winning the bronze medals! Up 175 to 140 over Russia.

[Tanner Lafever]

Pretty great angle of the deciding sequence here:

[GableBeer]

Never seen Spencer punished on bottom like that, Azerbaijanian must've been strong. Glad he kept wrestling and was able to stick him.

What time is Spencer Lee wrestling tomorrow for Gold?

LFG!!!

What time is Spencer Lee wrestling tomorrow for Gold?

LFG!!!

Medal Matches begin at 8:00am CT. So it won’t be long after that.

Pretty great angle of the deciding sequence here:

I suspect Spencer has practiced that move a time or two. I’m surprised we don’t more people counter that move.

[Corby2]

Usa 180 max points 210
Russia 145 max points 185
Iran 110 max points 150

[Corby2]

Remember tomorrow repechage is 530am CT and Finals 7am CT because clocks change but they don't in Astana

Congrats to Bo. World champion before his first collegiate wrestling match. Imagine what he could have done for this program…

Similar to what Spencer did when he came.

[Nashville_Hawk]

Big thanks to you guys sharing videos and providing updates!

But on the senior level…

[BrianLafevre]

Similar to what Spencer did when he came.

Not really similar at all. Either way, it’s time for Spencer to get his.

Did Japan send any competitors?

Sorry to be a downer, but could Tom or Terry really not be bothered to be there to support Lee? Too busy running Caliendo out of town and fighting desperately to give Williams his 9th second chance, I guess?

I know this should be a happy day, and I'm actually not anti-Brands like some others are, but it's really hard to ignore the feeling that the coaching staff doesn't actually care as much about world and Olympic medals as they claim they do.

PSU has Carl, Cody, Varner, Nick Lee, and at least two other support staff members I've seen in match and interview videos. You're telling me that doesn't make a difference to the program as a whole downstream?
