Yazdani vs Yoshida 2nd round

I really like Blazes draw. 2 matches he should win to start and then Iran which I think is a winnable match as well

Levi should make the finals or wrestle for a medal. His quarter against Khaniev is the big one. Whoever wins should make the final. Nokhodi on the other side

Bassett with 2 winnable matches to start but then would have Russia and Sujeet back to back. Tough to see him placing unless he can gas the Russian. His first match against Biabani isn’t a cakewalk either. He lost 3-2 to Woods earlier this year.

I actually like Dakes draw. 86kg is so deep that every path is tough. I think he wins his first 2 and then gets the winner of Ghasempour vs Ramazanov. Brutal first round draw for those 2. Winner of Dakes quarter likely sees Kadiev. I am interested in seeing Kadiev vs Okazawa in the 1st round. Okazawa was the guy that was beating Sinclair badly at U20’s until he gassed and Sinclair came back to win 7-6

Nah. Blame the wrestlers. They don't compete.

I prefer it the way it is. You have to earn it from previous year's finish, or current year results. There has to be SOME incentive to get these guys to compete more.
A lot of these guys are competing in non-ranking series events and leagues. A wrestler can get paid to wrestle in an RAF event for example or pay out of pocket to travel to some far flung country for an official tournament that may or may not have any legitimate competition. Same with Iran's league.

Snyder got paid for Sadulaev and Taz. Is wrestling them in Mongolia any more legitimate?

Dake's bracket should show the "way it is" is abject stupidity. 2 of the 4 best wrestlers at the weight automatically cannot medal.

Different leagues different rules. Also not all tournaments are made equal. You really think Saduliev actually put as much time and commitment into the RAF match as he would a ranking tournament or worlds?

Some people don't understand before this system it was a blind draw . This is way better than what we had . Now the best know what needs to be done to earn seeds if they choose

I don't really care what differential preparation Sadulaev puts into varying events.

But to turn this the other way: Snyder gets World/Olympic seeding points for winning the continental championship over a bunch of jabronis UWW found at a Waffle House parking lot that morning. But none for beating Sadulaev at RAF.

I think we all remember the dark days of 100% blind draws and the ball grab. This is clearly better.

That doesn't mean we should accept that this system can't be improved. UWW has progressed from crapping its diaper to crawling, but is not yet walking or running.

You can't force guys to wrestle but this system gives them an incentive to participate by earning points for seeding

That's what people don't understand. It's better so that's that.

One of the ranking series events was in Ulaan Bator, Mongolia. That's two days of flights from State College just to get there.

The three others this year were in Hungary, Croatia and Albania. (want to take a wild guess were UWW's current President is from)

The UWW makes insane demands like a 5K seat arena when they're lucky to get 1K in attendance, but those host sites are willing to grease the skids with VIP treatment for the UWW delegation so it's always going to be this way.

There are so many better ways to go about this, hell ELO sucks and would still be an improvement.

People in a Waffle House parking lot are a helluva lot tougher than most competitors at Pan Ams.

IMO ELOs two biggest weakness is it does not properly weight head to head results, and lacks a recency bias. In NCAA wrestling where we see so many wrestlers jump levels with experience what happened two seasons ago is close to irrelevant.

The wrestlestat guys are certainly smart enough, and have been listening to constant bitching (much of it quite justified) for the last decade, yet there seems to be no desire to even attempt to tweak the model. How hard would it be to do so and run some trial against prior stations data as a beta test before releasing any changes? I thought this is what software geeks do.

Heck using Claude they could have the code generated, tested, adjusted and rewritten in the time it took me to write this message.

PS - now that they are charging and pulling in some very well deserved cashola, an enhancement in this one area seems quite reasonable.

Bo up now vs Biabani from Canada. My feed is messing up repeatedly but hopefully it will hold up

Bo with his usual hard handfight and he takes Biabani to the edge and gets 1

Bo with a double and Biabani tries a chest wrap. Bo stops it and finishes straight to the back! Biabani is fighting but Bo gets the fall!!

What a start for Bassett!

Good win for Leydecker over Godinez. Godinez is a past world bronze and has wins over Cristelle Rodriguez and Jacarra Winchester. 2-1 win. Fairly boring match. Leydecker controlled the handfight especially using her Russian tie

Snyder up now on mat B

Snyder taking ground early. Tokgoz on the clock. Point for Snyder. 1-0

Tokgoz back on the clock again. Don’t see that often especially in the first. Snyder with a single to the Td. 4-0 at the break

Snyder with a step out point. 5-0

Td Snyder. 7-0

Snyder close to a td but just gets a step out. 8-0

One more td and it’s 10-0 tech!
