Going to be a long season

[BookofMormon]

You don't need a friggin group of all stars to put together a winning team. Everyone is clamoring for high level talent.

What did Golden win a title with? He scrapped together 3 unknown big and a transfer out of Iona and coached them up. A lot of this is about coaching. What is your system? Are your kids getting bigger and stronger? Are they in top flight conditioning programs? Are you defining their roles, inspiring them? Wilkins is a really talented kid, but a string bean.

Pope is never going to Cal his way to victories, he has to coach.

This thread does not age well anybody with a brain. Can see pope trying different personel
One thing for sure that overtime may have gave us a glimpse of how dominant this team can be
Go pope go cats good grind out win

You think the last 5 minutes of reg displayed dominance?

[Catastic5]

UCF was pretty much gassed. They pretty much gave up once it was OT. We were really lucky they missed that second free throw.

Other Bluebloods are playing each other already we are playing the YMCA and struggling to pull it out.Theres not a lot to be excited about at this point but I thought Hawthorne showed promise.Mixing lineups is not an excuse for struggling with the 13th slated team in the big 12.The mindset of some fans reveal lower expectations of ky basketball which is sad because of Mitch,s laziness in pursuing the best available.

[Resignmarkpope]

Death knell for the program. Pope comes back year 4, we lose another 10+ games, sink further into Indiana levels.

If Pope come back, it’ll be a major step back! Kentucky Hoosiers! Coach by mark poop!

[Resignmarkpope]

Popes only hope and strategy is the Kenny Payne. Hope he can get three or four big time freshman and hope it buys him another year. It’s his only hope. This team looks no different than any other lower level SEC team. It looks like an Oklahoma team you’d watch on the SEC network. For 22 million and the UK name, we all deserve better. It’s gonna be bad when Will Wade puts BTA to Pope this year in his first year at LSU.

People who don’t know that mark pope is a horrible coach, they need help! I’d rather have Coach Cal! Mark pope is a loser!

[Resignmarkpope]

They trash.

Also didnt we hire pelphrey for "player development"...okay, then why is moreno a 7 footer bringing the ball down to his balls on a rebound. This is basic stuff

Kentucky Hoosiers

[ukfan042]

Sadly, this is another 10-12 loss team! Hopefully Batt has the sack to make the change at the end of the year

[peterpiper09]

Florida lost to Baylor in overtime.
Isn’t Florida supposed to be number one in the nation?
I think it’s a good idea to never get too excited or too disappointed with how exhibition games turn out.
I choose to wait and see how it turns out.
I see a lot of good possibilities with this team, but we just have to see if they come to fruition.

[RedwoodHigh]

Central Florida was better than this board is giving them credit for.
I’ll take them as an 11 seed in March.
Ky is a deep team with at least 10 players getting 12 minutes a game.
i like Hawthorne at the 2.

Only thing I know for certain, mark pope is a loser of a coach! Kentucky Hoosiers!

I’ve never seen so many f*cking delusional people on here, on Reddit, Twitter and Facebook. It’s like looking a mass extinction event straight in the eye and pretending everything is alright. I’m so sick of the culty Pope fans.

OR, hear me out, maybe some folks are going to let the season play out for a week or two before declaring everything a complete failure.

Yea, that’s not rationale at all. Grab ‘yer pitch forks, folks!

FARRRR Pope! HARRRR Oats

Someone finally spelled his last name right.

[KFuqua]

I was unhappy with how sloppy this team was at times, but I also was able to compose myself and realize that it was just a practice game and Pope played a lot of players and a lot of combinations that we won't see in the regular season. They overcame adversity to get to overtime and blew the game open when overtime hit. I don't want to see that in the regular season, but it accomplished what it needed to for an exhibition game! Go Big Blue!

[Battle_Cat]

It's the PRE-SEASON ffs. Let's see how they are doing when SEC play rolls around and heading into March tourney time. That's when it matters. These guys are nearly ALL playing together for the first time/season. It's rare that any "new" team gels instantly. Reset your expectations to something from the world of reasonable and then grade them lol. Or just keep spewing blabber, no one cares...

[JustBlue]

Ugh. This whole "it was an exhibition game so he didn't care about the result" is just nonsense. If Pope thought that dropping this game would have been just fine and dandy because it was an exhibition then he is a bigger fool than I ever imagined.

[HolySmokes]

All I know is Noah better be back in time to shut down Stokes when we play Kansas. Nothing else matters this year. That disrespect cant be allowed. You dont mock Kentucky and Rupp Arena shooting half court shots knowing what type of Monster we have tucked away.

Im only halfway joking. Id like to see Noah put that guy on his butt one time. One hard foul is all I want Noah. Heal up man.

[Artlaibesghost]

Ah yes the fellowship of the Miserable is well represented here

[Lum Eddards]

Is Central Florida a legit Big 12 team or has that conference fallen on hard times? Feels strange calling them Big 12. Maybe I'm stuck in the past.

They're legit but they took advantage of an opportunity and I can't blame them. Somewhat like South Florida did with the Big East a few years back. They do much better at home (where they have beat most of the Big 12 heavyweights) but struggle on the road. Still, it is a game we should comfortably win in Rupp.

They’re a newcomer and probably like a South Carolina or Ole Miss type school in basketball.

A little known fact is UCF is the biggest university in Florida with an enrollment of 70K.

Facebook is the worst. Seriously like 50 Pope is the best posts on anything. That being said though they are definitely not as positive as they were last year (which was nearly unbearable) and more critical posters are starting to show up.

[Lum Eddards]

I do like this new thing of playing other power conference teams in the preseason.

Reddit isn’t much better. Suggesting Pope isn’t the guy on the college basketball subreddit gets you downvotes. Although I have a theory most of the Kentucky fans are on the college football subreddit these days because you can call Pope a** and get upvotes. But there’s a lot of “Kentucky is a has-been and needs to accept that they’re the new Indiana” types on Reddit. It’s really depressing.

Kentucky fans on Twitter are pretty much universally in agreement that Pope ain’t it, though.
Makes sense considering that’s where most the KSR fans probably hang out at.

[JakeKx]

We will be lucky to finish .500 and the Pope tenure ends in flames

[The_Answer1313_rivals]

This board is so funny at times.

Board this entire weekL Exhibition games are meaningless.

Board after the game: This team is terrible...........based on the 3 "meaningless" exhibitoin games

[SkyPrince]

The bad thing is that we never really were challenged in the exhibition games.
Not from a physical or talent standpoint.
Dior Johnson and Riley Kugel are Last chance U type players, talented but undisciplined.
Again we are looking at another season where roster construction is an issue.
No true PG.
PF's who want to be 2G's
I guess Kam is this years JQ, " Just wait until Kam gets back".
Did we upgrade a single position from last season?

[Chadrock]

Let’s all just be patient with this young team. Give them time to gel and get in synch. It’s a long season and Pope will have them geared up as the season gets started!

Let’s go Kentucky Hoosiers!! Feels like mark stoops last year all over! By February everyone will want him gone. 50/50 rn!

[CincyUKFan]

This ucf team isn’t very good but we come out lackluster effort and zero sense of urgency to start the game. Imagine what this team is going to look like on the road in the SEC. Win or lose this game, a whole bunch of questions still remain……not seen a real alpha step up either.

It starts with Diallo being moved to the bench and playing only the amount of minutes he's absolutely needed to play. Milan played 39 and Moreno played 37. If Williams can play 35+, then let him. If you have all three of those guys playing nearly the whole game, the team will be much better off. Pope needs to reel in Ndiaye's 3-point attempts a bit, but he's a decent piece, while Hawthorne and McBride are good role players. I'm not high on this team, but we need to see the "Big Three" - Milan, Malachi, and Mason — on the court as much as possible to reach our full potential.

Good thing im not trying to be funny. I want Noah to out him on his butt.

[jeffky]

This team is anything but dominant, did we watch the same game?

Comprehend I said overtime and potential take your doom and gloom elsewhere

[Cleatortoises]

Its not worth it with him. He will drive in circles about pointless stuff all day. Guys owns a round a bout and has unlimited gas. The ulitmate gaslight guy on the forum.

Drive in circles? Like another thread about how terrible we are, and how our coach suggs, and how our players sugg and how we will win nothing that matters?
Carry on.

[Cleatortoises]

Weird.

Downvotes and up votes?
Wow.
That is hilarious

[CB3UK]

I've said all offseason this feels like another middle of the pack, mediocre, some highs and some lows, kind of roster.

I haven't seen anything in 3 exhibitions to make me feel any differently.
