I don't know many of the bands/songs, but the ones I do know are solid. My list would look a lot different but I'm not going to complain.
Frankly, not sure if the Stones, Dylan, Springsteen songs should be in this.
Also not sure how they don't make Seven Nation Army #1 even though it's been played to death.
Seems they tried to keep things fair by limiting the number of songs to one or two (mostly one) per artist and tried to be as broad/inclusive as possible with the 'rock' genre. In terms of staying power, Seven Nation Army (Jack White well represented throughout the entire list though - shows up four or five times...) and Mr. Brightside are the winners so far this century. But, Maps is the cooler/indie song that sort of came out of nowhere so I'm good with it and love the song.
As to other decades doing it better, it would be interesting to see what the lists would look like. I will say for this century, the music is wildly varied. Would that be the same in the 60's and 70's? Dunno. I do know 9 out of 10 times, I can tell you the decade a song is from. Gets very difficult to do after 2000.....
I do find it kind of cool that the top two solo artists on the list are Olivia Rodrigo and Phoebe Bridgers (will allow that Jack White *is* The White Stripes, but still....).
Jack White's note to Olivia Rodrigo on SNL...
