I’ll say this for Puckett.

This is what I meant in my post about revealing your idiocy. Puckett is OK, he just wasn't prepped the way he should have been. He's a second year player. He almost beat Oklahoma anyway.
Take the maroon glasses off and go back and watch the last two games. Puckett sails almost every pass over 10 yards down field and has trouble leading receivers even coming out of the backfield. LSU appears to be ok, but Oklahoma was a winnable game with a serviceable QB and he hasn't been that yet. He has scored one touchdown in 8 quarters. Our tight end has as many touchdown passes as he does and while it was an ugly throw it was just as good as Puckett's over 10 yard passes. I can only imagine Swann must be a statue and Rashada couldn't hit the side of a barn as the reasons Puckett is playing over either of them. At this point, it has to be clear that Puckett isn't getting it done and doesn't have the support of his teammates. When KT goes out the team effort level dives. I'm not sure if Swann or Rashada would inspire the team anymore than him, but it's clear Puckett doesn't do it for them. Does it hurt to make a change? It literally can't get any worse than one score in two games from your backup QB.

Watch this weekend. With Puckett getting all the practice reps, I bet he looks much better. We aren't going to win but he will look improved.

With all the back and forth with Taylor, I can imagine it's been a little herky jerk with him.

What I will say about Billy Puckett is that I appreciate him being willing to lace them up and give his best for the maroon and white. The predicament we are in is not his fault and it is unfortunate that he has to hear the criticism. But the reality, no offense to him, is that he is not a suitable QB2 for an SEC team and the fact that a non-scholly walk-on is in this position after Lebby went out and paid for two QBs in the portal is inexcusable. Almost as inexcusable as having a terrible O-line and terrible defense for the third year in a row. The man is a awful recruiter and a awful game manager. He brings very little to the table.

I agree but how much improvement can he show given absolutely no time to pass ?

Puckett's fine. He's a drop off from KT, but we have had way worse quarterbacks on teams with winning records.

We have no one at LT. The rest of the offensive line is average on their best day. Our defense is garbage. And they don't look like they give a damn.
I guess it’s possible that the team is demoralized, especially when knowing that they're working with a QB that won't throw it downfield, but Puckett doesn’t come close to passing either the analytics or eyeball test as being a "fine" SEC QB.

In roughly 2.5 games of action, he has just one solitary score, and his TO to TD ratio is 3:1. His 5.8 yds per pass attempt is the worst in the conference amongst not just the starters, but also out of all SEC QBs that have thrown for more than 25 yards this season. His passer rating of 111.3 is 25 points below the league average for starting SEC QBs, and it's the lowest of any QB that's thrown over 100 yds.

None of this is his fault, I fully agree, but he has absolutely zero business seeing the field as an SEC QB. I feel like I have been watching an entirely different movie the last few weeks compared to some of y'all

Well, as I just posted, his TO:TD ratio, passer rating, and Yds/attempt are the worst in the entire conference for any SEC QB that has played legit minutes this year, so there's nowhere to go but up

What I didn't expect (thus my comment that it pisses me off) was for us to completely fall apart on defensive fundamentals too. Hell even our punter seems to be affected somehow.

It sure looks an awful lot like a teamwide surrender. That's what I don't like.
They all see what we see. We're playing the meat of our SEC schedule with the equivalent of a good high school QB.

It will be evident our whole fanbase is in surrender mode when you see the crowd on Nov 7th

Being honest. He throws a better ball than most QBs at MSU of my lifetime. The majority of my MSU fandom I've been pretty happy when we had road graders and a solid backfield and I closed my eyes when we dropped back to pass.

If he was 2-4 inches taller, I think he would be much better. Being able to see over linemen is a big deal. We aren't running Leach wide splits these days on OL...
Wow!

Puckett starting at QB after KT went down is the equivalent if we had started Isaac Stansbury if one of our guards got hurt in BB. It points out the terrible recruiting that Lebby has done since he got here. In 3 seasons he has never had and even average Oline, or defense. His only saving grace has been a generational QB talent that his predecessor signed. He signed two QBs in the portal and they were so bad they could not beat out the walk on MAIS guy. Our offensive output fell from 40+ points per game to 7. That is on Lebby. He has to go. The win total he needs to stay should be 7. He would probably keep his job with 6. I am not sure he is even going to get there.

If TX wears us out as expected and then we lose to Vandy he should not coach another game.
Well, since you put it THAT way (facts)....

Here's the list of starting QBs since 1990, their top receiver, that receiver's receiving yards and the TD/INT ratio for the year. For me, I started risking one eye when Tyler Russell was here and more than one eye when Dak came around...maybe your threshold for pain is higher than mine...

Ive made some pretty dumb posts over the years but that one isn’t top 10!

ETA: I think our memory of how bad our passing had been gets seduced by our memory of how exciting some of the pass plays were when they worked. It was just infrequent.

Puckett doesn't look like a ghost out there and wants to make plays. You can tell that much. I don't get the impression he's leaving much on the table which is respectable. It's the fact he's the best option we have that's the problem. He should be the scout team QB if we managed the room and development correctly.

He said Billy walk on throws a much better ball than most other QB’s in his lifetime.
My point was has he seen the high soft floaters over the receivers head by 5-10 ft or the bullet that’s 6 ft over the receivers head ?
He runs ok when his for s#i+ OL can’t block for 3 seconds but his ball throwing skills are laughable when he’s comparing them to other state QB’s.

Puckett is a red herring.

He might fool around and become an average QB by the end of the year, but because the team around him is so disastrously bad at the line of scrimmage, anything less than outstanding QB play is going to make this a losing team.

Kamario was outstanding, so he covered up a lot of warts. We can no longer hide what we are.

Puckett has also been put into a horrible position via his first two starts being in Baton Rouge and presumably Austin this coming Saturday. And the other game he has seen significant playing time was against one of the best defenses in the country.

But I don’t think we are going to be able to win shootouts with this guy and I expect our defense to continue to allow a lot of yards and points, if the last two weeks are any indication.

Puckett couldn’t start for Holmes Community College. He’ll get a wr career ended before he actually lead us to victory.
