I’ll say this for Puckett.

Puckett isn't, and hasn't ever been, the problem.

Keep an eye out for the people who are pinning things on him, saying he's not talented enough, etc., we should never have someone like that, blah blach. Those are the idiots, and they are revealing themselves clearly to you. There are some of them in MSU media.

If Puckett had gotten all the #1 snaps since Bama in practice, we probably beat OU. The bumbling nature that all of this has been handled with is mind-boggling.

I think he is serviceable as the #2......but what I kept feeling like I was seeing was a lack of effort by others.
I agree. The main thing that pisses me off about all this is the effort from everyone else, other than Fluff and Ant I guess. Especially the defense. I'd love to hear how B-Puck playing quarterback explains missed tackles.

KT made the oline look better than they actually are.
The only knock on Puckett is the offense is more horizontal when he’s running it. Don’t know if that’s his reads, or by design. Of course it could be because the oline doesn’t allow time for vertical routs.

Puckett's fine. He's a drop off from KT, but we have had way worse quarterbacks on teams with winning records.

We have no one at LT. The rest of the offensive line is average on their best day. Our defense is garbage. And they don't look like they give a damn.
No we haven’t. You’re not winning SEC games with Puckett at qb. Evans was clearly frustrated with him Saturday. For good reason.

I watched a good bit of Michigan-Indiana Saturday. He’s better than either qb in that game. Reminded me a lot of the 3-2 loss to Auburn that got both coaches fired.
Being honest. He throws a better ball than most QBs at MSU of my lifetime. The majority of my MSU fandom I've been pretty happy when we had road graders and a solid backfield and I closed my eyes when we dropped back to pass.

If he was 2-4 inches taller, I think he would be much better. Being able to see over linemen is a big deal. We aren't running Leach wide splits these days on OL...

I said in another thread we need to hire a new O Line coach before addressing the QB situation.
I imagine that KT and starting receivers spent a lot of time working together that Puckett simply hasn't had. Both formal practice and self-directed. Now that we are in season, there isn't much/any time for QB and WRs to spend any free time working together.

I didn't see Puckett audible once. Even when OU literally had 4 in the box, we had Fluff in the backfield, and we still had time to run, he stuck with the play called.
Several times, he tried to force in a pass where the covering defender was clearly in position to break it up.
I blame Lebby for the call on the goal line, but that aside, nothing about what I saw from Puckett tells me he's mentally ready to run this offense against SEC defenses. Maybe he's nervous, or maybe Lebby won't take the training wheels off, but either way, our coaching staff doesn't have him prepared.

On top of that, his deep balls were either uncatchable or looked like they were intended for the defender.

Meanwhile, Josh Hoover at IU has thrown 18 TDs vs 1 INT, and was less than six inches from upsetting Ohio State.

Seems like he just locks in on one receiver, he’s not seeing guys who are coming open. Obviously some of that is due to lack of time in the pocket, but he also looks like your typical freshman with zero sec experience. I think he’ll look better with more practice and playing time against lesser defenses. But this weekend will be a bloodbath

And if our receivers were just 8-9 inches taller, they could catch more of his passes.

Puckett starting at QB after KT went down is the equivalent if we had started Isaac Stansbury if one of our guards got hurt in BB. It points out the terrible recruiting that Lebby has done since he got here. In 3 seasons he has never had and even average Oline, or defense. His only saving grace has been a generational QB talent that his predecessor signed. He signed two QBs in the portal and they were so bad they could not beat out the walk on MAIS guy. Our offensive output fell from 40+ points per game to 7. That is on Lebby. He has to go. The win total he needs to stay should be 7. He would probably keep his job with 6. I am not sure he is even going to get there.

If TX wears us out as expected and then we lose to Vandy he should not coach another game.

I believe it's a reference to the 5 stages of grief. Stage 5 is acceptance
Being mad as hell isn't grief. The other stages will not show themselves.

Puckett is the exact kind of QB that Leach would have had throwing for 300-350 yards per game in the Air Raid.

His biggest problem is that he isn’t in the Air Raid. He’s in an offense that commands a huge degree of timing and precision on throws 30-40 yards down the field, and he doesn’t have the reps on those throws, and he may not have the accuracy to make them regardless.

Unfortunately, there’s also a bonus requirement that the QB in this offense right now has to be extremely elusive, and capable of buying himself more time in the pocket and/or running for chunk gains, due to how terrible the OL is. And he’s never going to be those things.

He improved a bit as the game went on. It looks to me like his main problem is lack of confidence in his arm. That may or may not be warranted, time will tell. He just holds on to the ball way too long. He is no KT, and never will be, but I can still see him MAYBE becoming serviceable. That fumble on the goal line was a killer in more ways than one.

Puckett, as most young QBs, doesn't always trust himself to let the ball go. They want to "make sure" the guy is open vs trusting his coverage reads and letting the WR go make a play.

You saw that some Saturday where he would look and start to load and then bring it back because he just wasn't sure. I'm not sure if the all-22 would prove him right or wrong but there was a lot of times you could tell he wasn't letting it fly like Kamario was doing.

All that said, I made the mistake of going and watching Swann's highlights from '22-'23. I really don't understand how he got beat out. They seem to be of similar athleticism, but the ball came out quicker from Swann and he showed some nice touch on balls that needed air under them.

I even watched some Rashada highlights. He doesn't have a great throwing motion but he can run it.

I can't say we'd score more with either one of them, but they seem to both bring a little more of the big play threat that the offense if dependant on.

With the OL play recently, I wouldn't be totally against trying to put Rashada back there and run it 90% of the time. Mix in a direct snap to Fluff or Ant or one of our many skill players. At least we'd run some more clock. What's the downside? We score less than 2 TDs?

I think I may be only half kidding.

Many hated the Air Raid and perhaps you wouldn’t want it with an elite qb like KT but how often will we get one like him? The Air Raid is probably something that we should have stayed with considering you don’t need the pass protection for the 40 yard throws. 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is what I meant in my post about revealing your idiocy. Puckett is OK, he just wasn't prepped the way he should have been. He's a second year player. He almost beat Oklahoma anyway.

He's not OK. We have 8 quarters of evidence for this. And no, he did not almost beat Oklahoma. That game was over a couple of minutes after halftime. We even had to resort to a trick tight end pass play to get our first touchdown.

he doesn't explain missed tackles but he does partially explain 15 pts over 8 qtrs. that's 1.88 ppq....WTH?
I get that for sure. I was saying I expected to struggle on O without KT. What I didn't expect (thus my comment that it pisses me off) was for us to completely fall apart on defensive fundamentals too. Hell even our punter seems to be affected somehow.

It sure looks an awful lot like a teamwide surrender. That's what I don't like.

Well duh. I said 90% - in my half-joking scenario, we would certainly surprise them with a pass every now and then, when they started putting 11 men in the box.

But in a more serious comment: since we can't protect the qb, and then we can't connect on passes when the qb actually does have 2 seconds to throw... I wouldn't mind running the ball more. And if we were going to do that, having a running QB back there as an additional threat might be a thought.

Let me clarify: I don't think this is going to happen.

Reminds me a lot of Michael Henig. Probably shouldn't be starting at QB in the SEC, but it's not their fault they've been thrown into these situations. If any of us were given the opportunity to play QB in the SEC, we'd jump at it too.

He hasn't been terrible, and with even a decent offensive line, I think he'd be serviceable. Let's also not forget that Lebby left 15 points on the field against LSU by choosing not to kick field goals. Is he what we need as a back up, no...Is he the problem, no.
