From what I remember hearing, the money was not that much different but he had a lot of people talking into his ear pushing him to leave$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$?
Well, NU would look a lot different if he had stayedAfter watching that scrimmage yesterday..... those people in his ear were right, unfortunately.
I wonder if the timing was right though. He was out there, being solid, but not standing out as they are talented and deep. After watching that scrimmage yesterday..... those people in his ear were right, unfortunately.
I really hate degree arrogance. He has three more years of CBB after this year if he wants it, and if he makes a couple million and doesnt waste it, he's not going to be pumping gas. And if he is a serious student, he can get a good education there in a number of programs. He should have had the foresight to get his NU degree and leave whatever extra $$$ ISU offered him on the table. Best case scenario is he's pumping NU players' gas in a few years with that paltry degree he's now working towards
You should know what our basketball history is.I thought I posted this before but if the players left because of money, CC has an excuse, but if he ushered them out, CC owns this team. I believe CC has had 5 winning seasons out of his 14 at NU and this season does not look good.
If you got outbid by Iowa State, a notoriously “financially bare” athletic department, for your best player so he could go be a role player there, then you didn’t make a competitive offer.CC did not usher him out. We made Singleton a competitive offer, ISU topped it. Others were ushered out, so to speak, but not Tre. Go Cats!
No. The degree is a minor factor for high major players. Was NU's offer competitive if you factor in the value (and cost) of a Northwestern degree?

The media suggests they spend about $27 million on their football team and $12 million on their basketball team. How does that stack up to NU's salaries? If you got outbid by Iowa State, a notoriously “financially bare” athletic department, for your best player so he could go be a role player there, then you didn’t make a competitive offer.
Was Iowa State's offer competitive if you factor in the value of going to the big dance every year and an opportunity to join other Cyclones currently starting in the NBA?Was NU's offer competitive if you factor in the value (and cost) of a Northwestern degree?
Approximately the same ballpark, according to published estimates. I think NU is reportedly a little lower on each. The media suggests they spend about $27 million on their football team and $12 million on their basketball team. How does that stack up to NU's salaries?
The crazy thing is ISU has done as well as or better than Kentucky in four of the last five tourneys, including 2026 when they knocked Kentucky out by 20 points. But yeah, they don't spend Kentucky money on players. I'm just thinking that if the money was close and the kid believes he has an NBA future, ISU seems like a team that will have better results in the next few years, play more often on the national stage, and draw the right kind of attention to him. Especially as he saw what happened at NU and the post-season team.My point is, losing Tre to ISU stinks because they’re not Kentucky. They don’t have the kind of money you can’t compete against. Especially to retain your best player. The guy you needed to build around to have a shot at being competitive. Losing him over, say, a $200K difference is classic penny wise pound foolish thinking. We should’ve paid whatever it took.
