Imagine defending a coach that's 17ing 2-23 in the SEC in year 3. This isn't the 1990s, you can flip a roster in a year
3-18. Even in the 90s this would get a coach fired from any program who took themselves seriously. There is plenty of money and support to get a better coach than Jeff Lebby.

Cignetti wanted an interview but didn’t get it. I know his agent.
Sumrall wanted the job when he was at Troy and interviewed but was never considered because Selmon had his man.
I have no idea on Stein but I just threw that out there because Ky fans and everyone else hadn’t even heard of him. So it fits the bill
so would they have come? Really?

So Drebin, you obviously have it all figured out. Let’s have the specific names of coaches and financial commitments and plans for NIL. I will admit I am clueless on this level, but you say ANY coach would be better, and obviously now that includes the financials. It’s so easy for you! Thank god we have people like you on our side! Let’s hear it!

Not spiking the football in favor of Lebby. Just saying he’s not all bad. He has to be given some credit for Taylor being a “Top 10 draft pick QB”. To pretend otherwise is just being dense.
Taylor will not go anywhere near the top 10. He COULD. But he won’t. Doesn’t look like he’ll have the success here required for that.

I'm sitting in section 4 right now. Row 24. Thankful for the improved cell coverage. Any of those arseholes can stop by for a visit.
Didn't see anybody that looked like Leslie Nielsen on the row. Wish you could have held up the lastest copy of the mag to let us know. Maybe next time.

This is message board bullsh*t. It’s not Drebin s job to identify & hire a new coach. But he doesn’t have to be a master chef to know the steak is overcooked.

We should've fired his arse last year. We deserve this.
I'm with you, here, but we cannot keep hiring coaches every 2-3 years.

At some point, the folks making the bad hires need to be held accountable.

If you keep making bad hires over and over and over, then you're not doing your job.

Unfortunately, Keenum is connected politically and is untouchable. Our only hopes with him is he finally decides to move on with his political ambitions.

The answer is to hire a coach you don’t have to fire after 2-3 years. Not to keep one you should have fired a year or 2 ago. That only prolongs the inevitable & drags your program down even further.

Obviously. My point is, we seem to not have people in charge that are capable of doing that...and I'm not so sure Selmon is the responsible party here.

We just have to hope they’re the blind squirrel that finds the nut next time. But keeping bad coach another year or 2 is never the right answer.
I'm not saying to keep Lebby by any means. I'm saying we have to fix the bigger problem, which is replacing the person(s) that seems to be terrible at making the decision on who we hire.

I agree. Been saying that for years. But realistically Keenum’s not getting fired. And Selmon isn’t either. Sucks. But it is what it is.

Hear me out. JMU seems to produce winning coaches. Let's get Sunbelt Billy.
Ok then…..😂
Taylor will not go anywhere near the top 10. He COULD. But he won’t.
If he is that good, he will go there. The NFL will find you no matter where you are. The myth that you have to go to a top program to ensure your place in the draft is just that, a MYTH.

Who is that coach? Who can we hire that we won't have to fire.

You keep asking this even after I said names. The answer is who the 17 does it matter who we hire? They can do better than 3-18 will be probably 3-22 by the end of the year. CROOM had a better SEC record than that
It’s a stupid message board trap. If you fall into it it’ll just be endless rounds of here’s coach 1 2 & 3. Nope they wouldn’t come here. Ok how bout coaches 4 5 & 6. You think we could hire one of them? Until he finally wears you down & you quit.

Yeah, this is disingenuous, dishonest bullshlt, and you know it.

It's not my job to identify specific coaches who will come here and be successful. There are plenty who are capable, literally dozens. But just about anyone would be better than what we have. We have someone who is very well compensated by Mississippi State who's responsible for that.

You don't like that answer. That's fine. But don't be a retard.

So who you gonna get? That is a serious question.
Even though you are just trolling, I do agree that the AD must know what he wants. Selmon doesn't, that's why he brought in his Showtime buddy from OU - an easy hire that he thought would have won just enough with flashy offense to get himself hired away.

It's not hard to figure it out. Look at what has worked for us since freaking integration. Bellard, Sherrill, Mullen, Leach. 3 of them were experienced head coaches. The other 1 was a coordinator. Now let's go the other way. Shira, Tyler, Felker, Croom, Moorhead, Lebby. All coordinators.

We start with older, experienced coaches. Eliminate the rest unless there is an available glaringly sharp coordinator that you can't pass up.

And with a healthy KT we're +/- a Playoff team.
This is the only thing that gives me pause about firing Lenny. It's crazy the difference that one player at QB can make. Diego Pavia sends his regards.

I simply cannot see the team doing anything but fracturing if we change coaches. It's worth it to me to roll the dice with Taylor/Lenny in 2027, and deal with the aftermath in 2028.

Good luck for us finding a replacement. No coach in NIL era is going to jump in here unless administration at the top-top and donors go all in behind the fb program. Jackie and Mullen won with hard nose 3* talent mainly that stayed 4 years and developed over 4 years. That ship has sailed.

I’d add that our successful coordinator was a long time coordinator at an elite program. Those coordinators tend to be much more successful than coordinators at mid-level programs (and Oklahoma is a mid-level program).

it was a serious question, but let's look at your facts anyway. You have Bellard as working. He had two good years and then tailed off and was fired. You have Tyler as not working, yet he was one of our most successful coaches ever. He got fired for off the field stuff, and it really wasn't the probation. Funny thing about Leach and Moorhead, their records at MSU were actually pretty similar. Basically what the record says is it's a crap shoot when it comes HCs and coordinators.

In my book we have had 2 1/2 successful head coaching hires. Mullen & Tyler with Sherrill being the 1/2.

Oh my God. Right on queue, every damn time throughout history the possibility of improving our situation comes up, we get this inevitable question: Well...Who ya gonna get?
Look, if you're not thinking in terms of doing better than what we're doing right now, just end the damn program or move to the damn Sun Belt. I know, NIL. I know, portal. Judas Priest, we're trotting out a walk on QB behind a line that probably couldn't protect against Delta State.
There are several out there we could get that are better, if we just would. We can't keep bringing in unproven and untested experiments like Morehead, Arnett, and Lebby and expect things to change.
Selmon made a serious hire for baseball, now he can do it for football. Bring in someone that has won more games as a head coach that I have. And don't be lazy about bring back someone that has already been here. Screw Mullen, screw Diaz, and screw Arnett after he's gone this year. If you're serious about winning games, make the steps to get there or end the program and start putting that money toward baseball. Damn...Ugh, Just DAMN!!!
