Oh my God. Right on queue, every damn time throughout history the possibility of improving our situation comes up, we get this inevitable question: Well...Who ya gonna get?
Look, if you're not thinking in terms of doing better than what we're doing right now, just end the damn program or move to the damn Sun Belt. I know, NIL. I know, portal. Judas Priest, we're trotting out a walk on QB behind a line that probably couldn't protect against Delta State.
There are several out there we could get that are better, if we just would. We can't keep bringing in unproven and untested experiments like Morehead, Arnett, and Lebby and expect things to change.
Selmon made a serious hire for baseball, now he can do it for football. Bring in someone that has won more games as a head coach that I have. And don't be lazy about bring back someone that has already been here. Screw Mullen, screw Diaz, and screw Arnett after he's gone this year. If you're serious about winning games, make the steps to get there or end the program and start putting that money toward baseball. Damn...Ugh, Just DAMN!!!
Well, if you are talking about firing the coach, who you are going to get to replace him kind of becomes important by definition.

Serious question: if someone on this message board comes up with a random coach's name who you think would actually come here, would you be for firing Lebby then?

Or are you just wanting him to stay no matter what?

I'm trying to understand and hopefully break the useless pattern of recycled posts we have going on here.

I've said repeatedly I'm still on the fence about Lebby. The point of my posts like that is to point out that firing the current coach is the simple part of the equation.

You know what else is important by definition: WINNING. It's kinda important for the survival of the program.
So, with all the authority I have vested in me as a Six Pack poster, I would go after someone that shows promise, that has actually won games as a head coach. I can't think of anyone specifically, but there are many out there that can easily give us more than we're getting now. I have no choice but to trust the powers that be that are responsible for making those choices to learn from our miserable hiring history and try and find someone established.
Now, with that being said, Do you have any suggestions, or are you just here asking the rest of us what we would do? Or worse yet, do you want to continue the Lebby experiment just because po ol Miss State ain't gonna find no better or we haven't given him enough time to implement his system yet?

Same ole same ole, a lot of that is exactly what was being said prior to the Rick Ray hire.

So, no, you don't have any suggestions. Just an ambiguous response mentioning Rick Ray.
Either make the steps to improve and bring some reasonable facsimile of pride back to the program, or go to the Sun Belt. Ole Miss wasn't scared to hire Lane Kiffen, and last I checked, it worked out pretty well for them. They didn't hire some unknown coordinator who used to work at the same university as the AD, it was someone with actual head coaching experience.
I don't care about Rick Ray, I don't care about Sylvester Croom, Morehead, Arnett or any of the other numerous times we have failed to make productive hires. To improve you have to at least make steps to move forward. You can't do that by wallowing in self-pity and doubt. This bunch has a lot of historical mistakes to learn from. Lebby is one of those mistakes. Move on. Forward would be nice.

My point is we better have a replacement lined up if we are going to fire him. Knee jerk fires without a replacement lined up tend to go bad. Wallowing in self pity and doubt is exactly what you are advocating.

I would hope no one is really advocating firing Lebby today with no real thought or a real replacement scenario in place. What idiot is saying we should do that?

The view from Maine. We are terrible in every aspect of the game. Kamario is lightning in a bottle, but the rest of the team is just not good enough to compete in the SEC. Hate to admit it, but we need a fresh start. I see nothing that encourages me for the future.
WAIT A MINUTE!! I said the same thing a couple of weeks ago before LSU skull drug us that we had a chance to be an 8 win team this year with a healthy K1, but in no circumstance were we a playoff caliber team in 2026. A few on here just could not accept that fact. Never mind that the left side of our OL is crap and we have nothing behind K1 or Bothwell, and Trevion Williams and our starting MLB both out for the year. I Smith is banged up every week and Tillman played his first complete game of the year against Oklahoma. We are a lower 1/4 of the SEC team no matter how you shake it. Without Fluff and K1, we are in a playoff with Vandy for the worst team in the SEC.

No, it's not at all what I'm advocating. It's once again you twisting words to make them fit into your agenda. I'm saying put thought and effort into becoming a serious program, if that is indeed what we're interested in becoming. You don't get there by being scared, feeling sorry for yourself, or making lame excuses like the following: Kids will never want to come to play in Starkville. We'll never win consistently at a high rate in Starkville, Oh that coach will never consider coming to Starkville. We just don't have the money that Bama, UTenn, UTex, aTm, LSU and others have. If any or all of those statements are true, then why bother?

So are you going to pony up the money then? That's what it will take to get to the high stakes table. There ain't no other way around that now.
