I'm not saying its likely, but you'd be crazy to think that it's impossible or that Texas doesnt have the resources to make this happen.

This is like when Memphis fans thought they'd keep Cal from Kentucky. It's not impossible, but those two teams just offer a lot more resources and tools to be successful and therefor greater chances at success, fame, and money. You'd be foolish to think otherwise.

So we just have to hope that the allure of being home in Kentucky, and the university itself doing whatever it takes to keep him, is enough to ward of the Texas' and Michigan's of the sport.

Exact same scenario. Doesn't mean Stein will go, I would put it 80-20 he stays, but they can come and lay an 8 year $100M contract in front of him and anyone would pause for that

well, not this soon. But it's foolish to act like he never would. We don't know what is true goals are.
I swear some of you guys worry just to worry. He's not leaving for another school. Guy got chocked up running out on the field for the spring game. UK will pay him whatever he wants and there's no reason to believe he would leave for a blue blood. We've seen Kentucky go after multiple coaches and they've all said no. They don't hold the same weight they used to.

Enjoy the ride. He will be coaching Kentucky unless the NFL calls.

Cal had no connection to Memphis. So the scenario isn't exactly the same...BUT...I agree with you. Silly to think Stein wouldn't entertain the Michigans and Texas' of the college football world.

I liken Stein staying here to say, a basketball coach killing it at Notre Dame, who's from Indiana and grew up a ND fan, turning down the Duke basketball job. If you look at it through that lens (taking out the emotion of us all being UK fans), it sure sounds silly to think that coach would stay at ND.

It's also foolish of some Yahoo "reporter" to run with story worked up from some faux account. I swear, the "media" has just become dumb.

Has stein ever made any overtures about the NFL? Everyone always says his next step is the NFL but Ive never seen him say anything to suggest this.
No its just speculation. If he has a few years of success here I believe the NFL will come calling. He seems personality wise and preparation wise to be suited for the pros.

Never say never but I have a hard time believing any football blue blood swoops in to steal a first year head coach, 7 games into his head coaching career. Maybe later, but not yet. At least, not with some crazy money/offer.
I love what we've seen so far but frankly, he isn't a proven coach here yet...much less Texas.
Agreed, this year could be lightening in a bottle. Not to mention we still have 3 tough games left and 2 other games that are not gimme's as well.

I think we all knew a lot of teams in college and pro would come looking for Stein, but this soon ? Maybe premature, but he has wowed everyone, rightly so.

Feels so good to be a Kentucky fan watching all this. Let them drink the kool aid and poison, keep on direspecting what Stein is and what he is just now BEGINNING to build at Kentucky. disprespecting anything kentucky has done this year is ignorance, stupidity and ... disrepecting what Stein and his Cats have already done this year.

I love our team. I love our coach. I'm "claiming first" to have said "Will Stein for President" in all of BBN. ;) (think it was after the A&M game)
Can't remember the fist post, but I hadn't seen anyone else saying it at the time, nor hearing it anywhere else ....

But to be factual, a lot of people and experts/pundits talking about Kentucky since the A&M and SC game were starting to come around. Beating LSU made them beleivers. Stein "out Kiffined Lane Kiffen"...

The reason Lane didnt have that piece of paper in his pocket that he wrote last year was because, *I think* coach Stein pickpocketed him !:sneaky:

Thank goodness the game was in Lexington. It would've been bad to see Lousiana State troopers arresting him in the post game handshake with Kiffen for petty theft!
:p

Who's worried? Not me. But I am not naive either. The dude will not be retiring here someday.

Nobody does less with more than Texas. I'm sure they'll make another terrible hire when it comes time. They probably won't even consider Stein.
Maybe they go after Freeman. Seems their fanbase is talking a lot about making a run at him .If Sark stays he will probably need to let someone else call the offensive plays . Appears him calling the plays has really gotten under the skin of the fanbase.

We are first in the SEC. How many times has that happened in your lifetime? He is killing it right now. Does anyone doubt he can win and win big at UK?
Do not doubt it at all.
This is a what have you done for me lately business.
PROVEN you can win big happens when we do it with regularity.
7 games....
That said, UK National Champs has a nice ring to it.

I'm not sure if he thinks of it like this but if he were to turn UK into a football power for 20-25 years, he would have statues, streets, and buildings named after him.

He's 37 years old. He's not going to retire here bud. I was down with your positivity before, But now your head is in the clouds.

Lets enjoy the ride and party hard. Run the wheels off of this piece.
You're just guessing like the rest of us, man. Positive or not, there's a ton of logic to him staying here a long time. Thats not putting my head in the clouds, thats real life.

It's weird being in the position of opposing fans wanting our head coach. The last time a team wanted our coach an entire fanbase revolted against him.

It’s less logical that a 37 year old coach retires from
His first head coaching job. Especially if he’s successful. You tell me the last time that happened. I am of course guessing but I actually have data to support my hypothesis. You’re suggesting stein have a 20+ year career here. Come on. Nobody does that.

Show me your data on coaches starting at their dream school. Where their dads played here. Where they grew up. Go ahead, I’ll be waiting. So many factors in this, thinking he will dip just because others have is silly.

There's not a lot of history for precedent of a coach being successful early at the same school that they grew up cheering for. Hard to know how much sway being an OG fan has on staying at that school vs the allure of millions and resources at a Blue Blood. That said, I think part of why he's been successful is because he has that passion of being a fan first. I think that passion infects the team and therefore it wouldn't carry over to a new team. I also think that Stein has to prove he can sustain and replicate the success he's had so far before any blue blood truly comes a-callin'. There is the possibility that he got just the right combination of players with just the right combination of intangibles this year. It's plainly obvious from many other teams in the SEC over the years that having talent isn't always enough. The talent also has to fit together very well and the quarterback has to not make mistakes no matter how much talent he's projected to have.

We know his dad played and still loves Kentucky, we know he dreamed of playing at Kentucky as a kid and is a life long fan, we know he has said Kentucky is his dream job. Now of course some people are only in the business for money, I believe Kentucky will pay him as well or better than anyone else in the country if he can win ballgames. The NFL may call in a couple years but that won’t change his love for Kentucky and his job security here. I guess the question always comes when you’re winning so we’ll have to get ready. Good problem to have.

I cannot see Texas making a play for Stein.
The Longhorns would not target a coach with 6 games head coaching experience, honestly.
But, I would not be surprised if after 2-3 seasons of big success here, Will Stein gets attention from big-time programs.
We haven’t had a coach that made the fanbase nervous in the offseason since Rick Pitino.

I didn’t say he would just dip did I? I didn’t put any timetable on anything. I just said he won’t retire here. Look I am as excited as anyone about stein. He was my pick all along. He is killing it and I believe he will do something special here. But one day he will move on. It’s a business man. He will bust his *** for Kentucky and we will love him for it and he will continue to speak fondly of this place until he dies. But one day he will move on. They all do. It probably won’t be for a few years at least and I hope it’s many years from now. But no successful coach stays in a college job for 20+ years. That’s just not realistic.

My takeaways from this are…

1. yahoo still exist?
2. We have fans that are so dumb they go to yahoo for their news?

“National” media members getting duped by fake Twitter accounts should be cause for automatic termination.
