Season Saving Victory which provides HOPE

After face-planting right out of the gate, against UMass, then stumbling through a mistake filled performance against BC, this season has lacked any semblance of hope, unless you want to count a moral victory against USC, which I’m not inclined to do. Completely outclassed by Indiana, this season was on the ropes. This extended to the first half of yesterday’s game where a myriad of mistakes, led Maryland to taking a double digit halftime lead. Lose to Maryland, and the season was effectively over. But as I chowed down on my delicious sausage sandwich, I remembered it was Maryland. We’ve come back before against them, we’ll simply have to do it again.

something happened after halftime, almost like a switch flipped.

The Offensive Line started mauling people. Lonergan made big throws, and avoided mistakes, ending up with 291 passing yards. Clay Thevinin started making some big runs, and had an important catch for a touchdown. The defense applied more pressure, and got some stops. Sean Allison had the best game of his Rutgers career. Korey Duff took over and made big play after big play. Dyzier Carter had the best game of his young career, ending up with 88 yards receiving, and flashing the big play potential we were all waiting for. Defense bent, but didn’t break, holding Maryland to a single 4th Quarter touchdown, in the 2nd half. Most importantly, we got the stop when we needed it most.

As I waited for my Amtrak back home, I couldn’t help but think that this was the start of something special. Those who never lost faith, were rewarded. 6 remaining winnable games. 6 opportunities. Win 4 of 6, and we’re bowling. It all starts with going 1-0 this week. Let’s get it!

Don’t get too excited. The team defenses we have to face coming up are:

Michigan (3)
Wisconsin (15)
Nebraska (16)
PSU (36)
MSU (56)

….Terps were 77th coming into yesterday. Use your brain before you post. Maryland is simply worse than us, in all facets including is king, that’s all the 2nd half was yesterday.

Also NW’s coaching staff is licking their (100x better than our) chops for Saturday but, hey, 4 of 6!!!!!

Season was over after week 2. There was no way to come back from that abyss.

This isn’t complicated. The win changes nothing about the season. There was never a hypothesis of ‘Maryland is better than Rutgers to disprove’. Rutgers is somewhere between better than Maryland to about the same, probably marginally better.

Referees arguably had a 10 point impact first half which is what Maryland was up by. Game play was about even but that doesn’t serve the ridiculous OP dramatic narrative.

Rutgers out played them in the second half and YET nearly had to go to OT, in part due to an ill advised attempt at a pick 6 that wound up giving up more yards than was necessary in that play.

Wrong.
That's exactly what you did.

You even said USC was such a great moral victory that we could beat Indiana because USC was better than Indiana.

Can we fire Al? In all seriousness? He’s just another piece of the farce that is this entire program - the most recognizable message board “personality” we’ve got. And that’s a sad, scary fact

It’s over. The loss to UMass at home, a blowout, was the end for GS. Inexcusable. It was the college football coaching equivalent of a personal injury attorney with a huge slam dunk wrongful death case missing the statute of limitations; a surgeon amputating the wrong leg; an engineer pouring the wrong foundation and causing a building collapse. GS can’t be trusted with the program after this season.

I meant we had an opportunity, not a guarantee.

We already have a class which moves the program forward. Alvarez and Taylor are ballers as is Padilla. Need to keep what we have and then augment from the transfer portal, and we’re good to go.

A) We know how quick recruit commits can flip B) We know having great WRs cant make a winning season without OL/QB. GS is a slinky recruiter - get good guys at one position and tomatoes at others. RU needs to start putting together complete teams instead of a few blue chippers scattered around. I want to see OL #1 position.

DeadbeatAL is confirmed as using multiple screen names on this board lol.

What a bizarre guy. People are saying he's on the spectrum. I am not sure he's not now.

I can't wait to hear your answer as to which of Rutgers other head football coaches over the years had anywhere near the success that Schiano has had in recruiting. And which candidate to replace GS would do better here than he did in recruiting.
In case you hadn't noticed, Rutgers is a very difficult place to recruit top-level football talent.

The season is saved because they beat the worst team remaining on the schedule by a toenail? I am as happy as anyone about the win but get real. Losing out is more likely than getting the 2+ wins necessary to even entertain a discussion of keeping Schiano.

Which ones were given the resources he's been given? Zero.
