It’s hard to believe that somebody who “grew up” in the house that Cael built would think that a public challenge would be the way to get PSU’s attention! Ego and arrogance are always the enemies of success.

DT's "public challenge" was not designed or strategized to compel any action by Cael Sanderson; dude knows better. As you note in your first sentence.

Your second sentence doesn't fit, imo. DT's got plenty of ego, both needed for AND earned from many years in the sport, and there's no indication at all that he's out over his skis in his current role. Dude's gonna have mad success.

It was for his own team, his own fans, fans of other programs who hate Penn State, and a few fans of Penn State. With 100 pts of weight to distribute, I'd call it something like this:

I have posted my opinion here and discussed with friends. If Taylor really wants to wrestle PSU in a dual, he made a huge mistake not bringing some of his guys to this event.

I’m not sure his wrestlers not attending really makes a difference in whether of not DT can arrange a dual meet vs. PSU but it certainly doesn’t help.

Sounds straight out of a Peter Ustinov script. Romanoff and Juliet (1961). I’m picturing Basch as the General, Willie as Otto, and Pyles as Otto’s son. Pat Mineo would be a good fit as the Soviet spy. It really is a top notch Cold War satire and I cannot recommend it enough.

Maybe Bassett vs Mendez makes sense here. The Ohio executive order can provide cover for it, and the NCAA can't really punish Ohio State for participating in an exhibition match.

Besides, Mendez is the most skilled wrestler in the country, just ask Tan Tom.

Taylor announcing in the summer that he wants to wrestle PSU this year is nothing more than grandstanding on his part. The reason, at that point in the summer, the schedule is basically done for the season. He knows this. Nothing more than trying to get some publicity.

Just like nobody from Iowa called Brooks. If David really wanted to wrestle Penn State the first thing he should have tried is calling Cody. Having failled to do that it is rather easy to conclude David had no interest in wrestling PSU this year.

PSU had a good chance to whoop Okie state this year but if Raney twins/Ross end up doing as well as their last freshman class they could be problems down the line. Don’t think DT is losing sleep that he doesn’t face PSU this year but more the call out was to tell the fanbases he’s ready to face Cael whenever he answers the challenge. So why not face next year? I think age is playing a role in perception. You're mentioning the history of Okay State, which is long and storied. However, the past 50 years have 7 titles for Oklahoma State. The overwhelming majority of their legend building and history comes pre Vietnam. Sure they have a ton of team titles, but trail far behind the "modern stewards" of wrestling. Which, not for nothing but this whole "stewards" concept is pie in the sky stuff fans create in their heads in my opinion. Now, opinions are like ******** so I'm not saying you can't have one. I wish a colostomy bag on no one.

Would I love to see Okay State wrestle PSU? Yea absolutely. Do I actually think it would grow the sport and be good stewardship? I don't. I don't think PSU owes it to wrestling to continually change scheduling to accommodate whoever the hot new contending team is. Okay State gets their shot like everyone else in March. Maybe I'm just to young and dumber than hell, or maybe you're too old and clinging to the past. Likely both.
