Hermann: 100% DEI hire
Zinn: 100% best candidate hire
The ironic thing was that they had to apologize to candidate Sean Frazier, who by all accounts would have been a home run hire, for going ballistic with LGBT questions and getting hostile during the questioning. This was all in the wake of the Tyler Clementi incident, and as always, Rutgers went way overboard with their response, all the while discriminating against the most qualified candidate to hire a lesbian with huge skeletons in her closet.

That was Kate Sweeney. The only good thing to come out of the debacle, Kate has a lifetime banishment to the corner and has no more pull. You'll never see her as the head or on any committee of any search again.
Had the pleasure of playing in a foursome with her. Longest 4 hours of my life. “Enough about me let’s talk about me”. She loves herself tremendously.

I remember getting suspended from the forum for posting this ...

That was back when you weren't allowed to point out that she was only hired because she was lesbian and that it was the co-founder of the Rutgers University Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Alumni Association who unilaterally selected her despite the search firm not even having Hermann on their initial list of 47 candidates.

EDIT:
To be fair, I was told to remove the photo (a photo taken at the official Rutgers press conference!), which I did, but I was technically suspended after replacing it with this ...

If I remember correctly, the reason Barchi let Sweeney hijack the process is because Rice called one of his players a "f-gg-t" during practice and Barchi was terrified that ESPN and NJ local media was going to accuse him and the school of being anti-gay. So he let Sweeney do whatever she wanted in hopes they'd leave him alone and move on to the next dope.

Good for Julie. She realized athletics administration wasn't her thing & moved on. She has made a successful career for herself in real estate.

She could have been fine elsewhere - she was a horrible fit, neither media nor politically savvy, and for RU, those skills are as important as running the department.

Probably her worst decision was undermining Flood - in hindsight, he may have been successful with the proper support (and Saquon honoring his commitment - I don’t blame him for running from the dumpster fire).

Didn’t the Towers come in under her and Baumgartner’s watch?

IIRC no ties to RU either.

In the past, I’ve said that’s the kind of thing that we need more of and sounds like Zinn and her team are working on that angle as well.

It doesn’t always have to be an alum. Just locals who might care and want to help. Didn’t that marketing/biz development guy say when he was with the Brooklyn Nets he was scouring for people with Brooklyn or NY roots who might have interest in helping. I hope they’re trying to do the same with people with Jersey and metro NY roots who may have interests in helping the local school.

HUH???

She saw that Flood had lost control of the ship and wanted to get rid of him. In hindsight, the program overall may have been in much better shape if people listened and didn't interfere.

But yeah, she undermined Flood...SMDH (and this is coming from someone that hated her as AD).

He was doomed when he lost his pledge class at the last minute and spiraled from there - rumors were that he was going to be fired and the decommits happened. It was a top 25 class.

At this point, he’s got a more accomplished resume than most who have been here. And he’s an ace recruiter. If he had proper support, he could have been decent. But where he’s been since, clearly hes well respected.

He just follows Sarkisian around since they met in the pros. He's got an OC in name only title, Sarkisian calls all the play. It's why you don't hear his name mentioned for coaching openings. He's a good OL coach but nothing more than that.
