I'm not saying it's a secret gotcha. I'm saying it was an aspect of the settlement that most fans don't know exists. And I'm saying that there is evidence that schools in the Big Ten are using their revenue share (at least partially) in that fashion. Just because Rutgers says $16 million is going to players doesn't mean all $16 million is being provided to players in the form of direct NIL payments. The fact that our talent level is dogshit and our school is historically cheap when it comes to athletics spending suggests to me that the full $16 million is not going to NIL payments.
It’s a direct payment. You mentioned Minnesota that creates 10 scholarships across the entire athletic department that they are using rev share. These arent for high level athletes that would demand “NIL”. These are for the 10 athletes that would be paying their own way prior. I have read multiple sources and have heard from admin and coaches on both sides of the recruiting process. There are athletes that are being offered a scholarship only and there are some that are awarded NIL that cover tuition and a small stipend. But the tuition is now the athletes responsibility. Which one would you take?

And do you realize that Rutgers football has had one of the largest operating budgets? Here are the last 2. Schiano more than doubled the budget since he’s arrived. And tripled the coaching and support staff.

And top 10 in recruiting budgets also.
Once again not a spending problem. We have an allocation problem.

Our HC and two GMs have no idea what they are doing in this new world. Schiano gave Elad $550K lol

You honestly believe that Rutgers University's football program is spending more on operating expenses than Texas, LSU, Michigan, USC, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Florida? You really believe that? Yes, I concede that the NJ/NY area presents special issues related to simple higher costs for basically everything (transportation, food, gameday personel/security, etc), but still ... I mean, come'on. Have you attended a game in Austin or Ann Arbor? Every single one of these schools are hiding expenses and cooking the books to a certain extent - that was part of my original point. I can appreciate the work this guy put in, but at some point a huge flashing red light that the data is flawed (and inconsistent across individual schools' reports) is that it showed Rutgers is spending more to operate its football program than Texas.

I showed my work. You show yours. Do you think the star ledger or NY media wouldn’t live to show that there is some sort of misappropriation of funds? You don’t think the NJ politicians would live a gotcha moment? It’s eye opening when you see it. This guy? These numbers and similar are reported from multiple sources. Me and koko have reported them for years. Rutgers has nearly 3x the coaching support staff as Texas. Yea I’ve attended a game in Ann Arbor. Never in Austin. And have been to more than 50 venues across the country. Not sure where you’re going with any of this.
The data is there. From multiple outlets. Use data not emotion.

Agreed, which is really crazy when you realize there had to be at least 35 football players enrolled in (a) Intro to Dinosaurs and (b) Bugs & Dudes.

As I recall, when Schiano came on in 2001, there was one full time person and two part timers in academic support for all 23 sports.

It's not misappropriation of funds. These types of expenditures are allowed by the settlement agreement; you said so yourself. What it would be is deliberate use of wiggle-words to hide from the less-aware general public that the full 20.5 million revenue share is not being fully spent on direct NIL payments to football players.

Do you really think Greg would not be pointing out this discrepancy in finding. Both from the operational budget and from the NIL/rev share. This guy has made every excuse in the book when it comes to not being able to compete. At no point did he say the numbers reported are not correct.

When I said "every single one of these schools" I was referring to all of the Power 4 schools (which I suppose includes Rutgers) and saying that there is no way to do an accurate apples-to-apples comparison of operating expenses across major college football because all of the schools present their data differently in their reports. A line item called "XYZ expense" in Michigan's report is not going to mean the same thing as the same line item in USC's report even if it is also called "XYZ expense."

What is it? Not maybe, not around, not might be. How much are we paying football players this season? Total rev share to players for this season and total NIL to players this season? For this season!!! Not the future, now!

What’s the big not sure, kind of, hush, hush? You say Schiano had the money to get players for this season, HOW MUCH??

You do know there isn’t a program in the country that gets granular with their NIL payments. It’s by design. There are multiple reasons but the biggest is they don’t want their competition to know what they paid for total roster and individual talent. But if Greg wasn’t getting the numbers discussed he would be screaming from the mountain tops.

You Negatoids are just delusional! Nothing matters to you. No logic, no reality, no loyalty, no principals, nothing! Sure, let’s get the mythical Brian Kelly to Coach for free and save us from the best Coach we have ever had in history! Good luck with that!

You truly have Schiano Derangement Syndrome!!!
The best coach in any program's history would have a winning record.

Remember when Burns went up against Florida or was it Bama? There is no universe where Burns isn’t a better coach than Schiano.

Burns played in a 23K stadium, no support, no anything.

I don’t know if Schiano is better than Graber or Anderson. They had no support at all and not a long leash.

We just don’t know

Schiano certainly better than Shea, Flood and Ash though
Burns beat Tennessee and nearly beat Bama with considerably less resources than Schiano has been given. Schiano wouldn't have stayed within 5 TDs of either one of those schools then or now. Anderson, for all the mediocrity, actually beat Penn State, Michigan State, and tied a Florida team that was otherwise undefeated that year.

Graber's teams underachieved, due in no small part to losing the equivalent of an entire recruiting class to academics throughout his tenure.

Shea and Ash were terrible. Shea didn't stand a chance at RU, but he did at least win at San Jose State before taking the RU job. Ash was just flat out awful.

For all the litigation of Flood's tenure, he's the only coach in this group other than Burns that had a winning record. He also came within a questionable penalty of winning the conference outright, despite having an AD that undermined him at every turn.

I’m dying over here at the guys (OR the same guy) who are trying to claim that we are not spending what we say.we are spending..BOTTOM LINE

until you can prove your false narratives are true you should just shut the fyck up and stop spouting off your opinions (which have absolutely no factual backing whatsoever) AS IF they’re true. Just sit back down at the kiddie table.

You can love Gregg all you want, that’s fine and it’s your choice, but that doesn’t mean you after just continue to make **** up.

Have a nice day.

You really need to stop. You don't even understand the various payment mechanics. There is no such thing as "rev share going to NIL payments". They are two completely separate buckets of potential compensation to athletes. NIL is company related. Rev share is direct payment via school to players. It's a fact we are compensating athletes at Rutgers to the maximum current level which is $20.5MM. The NIL raised is in addition to that. You can choose not to believe Keli's direct comments in interviews or what people here have been told. That's on you. But understand, "I don't believe it" flies in the face of reality. That's your choice.

You reasoning is "because we'd have better players". And that's the rub. Your boy Schiano has no idea what he's doing. He gave our starting QB $1.5MM. He gave a torched saftey in Elad last year $550K. He's a terrible game day football coach. He's an even worse GM, even having two of them. It's hard for you to fathom, but it really shouldn't be.

This. Paid that weak Safety from UNLV $550k and wouldn’t even pay Toure that ..who is now a stud at Miami. And let’s CB Moscoe go to Texas because he won’t pay him yet pays over $1 million to a bad QB transfer from BC. Totally clueless. Schiano is done.

Oh please. Flood did it with Ralph Friedgen as OC. He also did it with far fewer resources, personnel and assistants than Greg has been given. Far fewer. He was given a pittance for coordinators and assistants.

Flood took risks and played a brand of football that was somewhat fun to watch. He also won a share of a conference championship, something Greg has not done in 18 years. Greg tells us he is not there "yet." Flood is a much better game day coach than Greg.

Do you think I am happy with Greg? I am not.

Flood couldn’t recruit and once the GS recruits tailed off he has a big problem

Plus the Flood in a disguise trying to get favors for players is a disgrace .

I want GS gone but I will give him credit for being scandal free at RU.

Flood might have been a little better than Schiano, but it's a low bar comparison.
I will add: I don't think Kyle could have built a decent team from nothing like Greg did,but maybe done a little better with the results Greg built, but not much better.
Both can't be called top of the line or who would have a lot of HCing opportunities coming their way.

The one thing Schiano can be given the upmost credit for is:
Greg during his first tenure as the RU HC was the one who gave Rutgers Football fans expectations of greatness from his program after years of just hoping Rutgers might have a winning season.
Schiano 1& 2 fell woefully short if that and now is considered a bust.

Flood on the other hand did fairly well as a HC but his program became undisciplined and an embarrassment with his and his players off the field actions.

At one time I felt Kyle might earn another shot as a HC, but now I think hos OC title at Texas was just the same as his RU OC job, in name only and his OL coaching ability is why he got the title , extra money to keep him from being poached to be the OL Coach at another program .

I don't see Flood being considered good enough for a HC position and maybe not OC material as well .

Greg wasn't in demand when he returned to Rutgers and will be in less demand when he leaves
Schiano left Ohio State because as their DC the Buckeye's D was underwhelming and he might have a hard time getting a P-4 DC position ince Rutgers gives him the boot.

Posting messages like this about Schiano feels strange to me after being one of his defenders for years , including last year.
As for Flood he never really impressed me as a good HC but I wasn't part of the anti-Kyle crowd when he was RU's HC until his last season when the team became an embarrassment and Flood's own actions made his leaving a must

Except he wasn't "in disguise", he just wasn't wearing Rutgers Football gear. And all he was asking the associate professor was whether that knucklehead could do extra credit to raise his grade.

Flood didn't want to put the work in particularly after Julie Herman started going behind his back to have him replaced leading into the 2013 season.

It was Freddie Jr (the RU MBB HC at the time ) who was judy in disguise at a baseball game he was told to stay away from .

from a google search ( adding it might not be considered a reliable way to get information)

>An internal university investigation proved that former Rutgers football coach Kyle Flood pressured a professor to allow a player to complete an additional assignment to improve a grade.
  • The Player: Cornerback Nadir Barnwell, who was in danger of being academically ineligible.
  • The Actions: Flood emailed and met in person with the professor—violating university policy that requires all academic communication to go through the team's appointed academic advisor.

  • Details from the 21-Page Internal Investigative Report
The university's internal report, released in September 2015, exposed the lengths to which Flood went to influence cornerback Nadir Barnwell’s grade

  • Flood actively tried to hide his communications from public scrutiny. He initiated contact using a personal Gmail account explicitly to ensure there would be "no public vetting of the correspondence" and to bypass the Open Public Records Act.
Flood arranged an in-person meeting with the adjunct professor on August 5, 2015, outside the Princeton Public Library. He purposefully wore no Rutgers apparel or insignia so he wouldn't be recognized

The professor told investigators she felt intimidated and "unable to resist the implied pressure" due to Flood's high-profile status on campus

An academic advisor explicitly warned Flood beforehand, saying, "Coach, you can't have contact with the Professor... This is going to be a big problem." Flood ignored the advice and proceeded anyway.

Despite Flood helping Barnwell format an extra assignment, the professor ultimately chose not to change the failing grade, and Barnwell remained academically ineligible.

Following the internal fallout, an 18-month NCAA investigation concluded in 2017. It resulted in two years of NCAA probation for Rutgers and a one-year "show-cause" penalty for Flood.

The NCAA uncovered several Level II violations
Between 2011 and 2015, the athletic department's medical staff failed to properly administer its drug-testing program. More than 30 players tested positive for banned substances, but 14 players were allowed to continue competing when they should have been suspended. In some instances, the staff failed to report the positive tests to the athletic director or even notify the athletes themselves.

Rutgers operated an unregulated, student-staffed football host/hostess program. The NCAA found that student hostesses had impermissible off-campus contact and electronic correspondence with prospects, and recruiting staff provided zero oversight.

A former assistant coach, Darrell Wilson, engaged in improper off-campus recruiting contact and subsequently provided false and misleading information to NCAA investigators.

Rutgers was punished with two years of probation, among other sanctions, after the NCAA Committee on Infractions ruled that the university failed to monitor its football program and that former coach Kyle Flood took "a casual approach" to NCAA rules during his tenure.

NCAA Sanctions & Penalties
  • Probation: A two-year period of probation running through September 21, 2019.
  • Financial Fine: A $5,000 fine issued to the university.
  • Show-Cause Orders: A one-year show-cause order for Kyle Flood and a former assistant coach.
  • Institutional Findings: The NCAA Committee on Infractions determined Rutgers failed to monitor its football program and that Flood took a "casual approach" to rules. Violations included unreported positive drug tests, non-compliant recruit-hosting groups, attempts to influence player grades, assistant coach recruiting infractions, and staff members lying to investigators
Self-Imposed Restrictions: The university self-imposed recruiting limitations, including reductions in off-campus recruiting days, a cap on official visits, and a brief moratorium on initial recruit contacts.<

He totally underachieved with a stacked roster that Greg left him.

Is a 4-way tie for first in the Big East a monumental achievement? They should have won it outright. Couldn't even beat a one-legged Teddy Bridgewater. And then the choke job in 2013 in the first year of the AAC where everything fell apart shortly after the Arkansas win and they finished 6th.

Other than one year with Fridge as OC his offenses sucked. I remember wanting to rip my eyeballs out watching the 2012 bowl game against VT because of how bad the offense was.
