Those of you who took the time to laugh at my posts explaining how Hecklinski is Iowa's best QB may post your apologies at any time. You should know by now that when it comes to evaluating talent, especially QB talent, I'm right about 99 percent of the time. KF? Not so much. Kyle McCann, Jake Christensen, Jake Rudock, Spencer Petras, Deacon Hill (!) . . . and then game manager Hank Brown. That's KF's record. Ain't that somethin'?
From the time Hecklinski led that 75-yard TD drive vs. Ohio State's starting defense to KF turtling last night, the offense under Hecklinski has been multifaceted and dynamic. And yet, had Brown not suffered a boo-boo, Hecklinski would have been on the bench again last night, and Iowa would have been in a battle they probably would have lost.
BTW: It's fourth and 1 in the 4th, you have a comfortable lead, you've been running all over the Washington defense, so what do you do? If you're 99 percent of college football coaches, you go for it. But if you're Kirk Ferentz you "play it safe." You go embarrassingly conservative yet again. You hope to get an offside call and, when you don't, you punt.
KF says he's not in the entertainment business, but he's wrong on that too. And not only is he losing fans with his boring, ultraconservative schtick, but he's losing recruits. Who the hell wants to punt on 4th and 1 in that situation? Why, KF of course.
Nice West Coast win, but it should have been more like 55-18 instead of 41-24. But that's what we've seen from KF for 28 years, and it will never change.
BTW: Who's laughing now? I am. LOL
