I have to see it to believe it. Just did some research on the recruiting classes of ISU. They continually ranked around 50th whereas PSU was around 15th. Looked at the transfers too. Infusion of 3 stars, and by the looks of things, coaching them up is not as easy as saying the words.

But I certainly hope it's fixable. Like to see the DT's rise up. The UCLA guys certainly should be motivated to play USC. The environment will be good unless they come out and get pushed around the first few drives.

I think this team can still get to 7-8 wins. Having your best player and most dynamic athlete back in a few weeks should help the offense come up with a better showing than they've had the past two weeks. The schedule is still weak, no matter how bad this team stinks.

It was unreasonable to think that this team was a playoff team in the preseason. I myself am also guilty of this. Mass departures, no signing class, hodgepodge transfer class. Half the team is made up of a middling BIG12 team from a season ago.

Year 3 is when I'd think you'd need to see some serious progress from Campbell. That seems like a reasonable amount of time for Campbell to have gotten situated into the BIG and what it takes to be successful at PSU. We're going to certainly need NIL to pick up though - no matter who the coach is, if we're not bringing in talent, we're going to be behind the true class of college football.

Kind of what CMC says, be patient, it will take time to put the parts in place.

Ninety percent of the things that have been said about Franklins departure are true and that's the problem I have with him. I do think Kraft botched the way PS parted ways with Franklin and the search process, so Kraft is fair game.

Framklin was not a great recruiter, but he could it seems find those diamonds in the rough and I think did so consistently. He was not a great coach and certainly not a great game day coach but IMO he was a good coach and produced what good coaches produce.

After arriving at PS his ability to hire good coaches was not good. He was given the money to get and retain it just seems in more cases than one he hired the wrong people. Some of the problem seemed to be that his first choices either didn't want to work at PS or for him. He brought some good stable people with him but their own reasons moved on.

College coaching in these most recent times is exponentially more difficult due to the modern culture of college football, money money money.

It's way to early to judge Campbell be any fair measure. Lots of bends and curves in the road this fanbase is going to travel this year. Who and what do we fairly compare him to. Indiana, UCLA, VO Tech and Franklins new Puff League where an average coach can look like a super star for a while

So where are we really. Well, IMO we have gone from a guy who looked and acted a lot like a Used Car Salesman to a straight-shooting fellow who might be a little in over his head for now but has his priorities straight and has the right attitude and culture to build something big long term. I'm willing to wait it out.

IMO for our football team to be in the top 5 the program needs a cargo ship full of money that isn't coming.

The fact that a new HC doesn't even get half a season anymore is a joke. I have zero idea on how it will turn out, but I do know that roster lost 46 players from last year and there is a clear talent issue at some key spots on the field. This season is a wash and if he can squeak out 7-8 wins (to me 6 is really possible right now and not in a good way), make some noise in the portal and bring in some frosh that can sprinkle in some life....maybe they take a step next year. It's hard to win in the B1G with a blah RB room, blah DE rotation, blah DT play, no LB depth, and a QB that gets 5 passes a game swatted down.

Then you have BOT/ex BOT trolls who seem to think their only job is to manipulate the program they way they want it...I mean the way they think Joe wanted it. When people say the BoT is a joke which it is, those clowns in terms of running interference may be worse than those they opposed initially...which is pretty GD sad.

This is a view from outside PSU. Since joining the B1G, Penn State has usually field very good, but not great teams. Now the game has radically changed with NIL. Iowa State probably had talent equal to a low B1G team. Give the coach a couple of years and NIL money in the same realm as Oregon, OSU etc. and Penn State will be back.

Franklin got here when the program was still under sanctions and in Year 3 PSU was Big Ten Champion.
