If he plays hardball play hardball back. Gut his support. Get rid of the army he’s been gifted. Dont renew other coaches whose contracts are expiring and cut his NIL and rev share to the point he can barely field a team. Force him to continue losing. Only bigger. One year of that will more than pay for his buyout. Or be what he’s long purported himself to be. An honorable man.
Totally agree. Every disastrous loss will be on his record forever. He will be the laughing stock of college football (if he isn't already).

agree and the kicker is, he's concerned with his legacy and this year is killing it as the narrative has certainly changed

Will kids come for less money with a big named coach or is it just about the NIL money? PS. I forgot, Rutgers Al said it's all about the Field House, never mind.

I’ve always said each individual is different. It’s probably a combination of factors like money and playing opportunity and fit to system etc…there’s a balance between these factors which is different for each individual.

Nebraska: beat two MAC teams, Ohio and Bowling Green (1-4), Missouri Valley Powerhouse North Dakota and fellow B1G basement dwellers Michigan State and Maryland. Woopty Doo. Let's see how they fare against Indiana, Oregon and Illinois before proclaiming them world beaters.
I don’t think anyone is claiming they’re world beaters. They’re 4-0. They’ve beaten who they’re supposed to beat. So basically, they’ll decimate this team because RU has not beaten who they were supposed to beat.

Was just listening to a pod and Matt Rhule is 0-20 vs ranked teams as a P4 coach. I think they said the last ranked win was in the AAC against Navy. I’m guessing that’s when he was the Temple coach.

That’s part of what these next two weeks for them will show. How far have they come…or not lol.

On the same pod they said IU and Nebraska have played schedules ranked in the 100s (don’t remember the metric). Difference is CC gets the benefit of the doubt because of all he’s accomplished but Rhule doesn’t.

My thought process is if they fired him now and the team falls apart you turn a bad situation worse. It’s been said many times it doesn’t give a jump on hiring a new coach cause you’d have to wait till their season is over before talking to them anyway unless it’s a Coach shows not coaching obviously. Not sure I want the latter.
He has definetely sounded defeated. My hope is that maybe he’ll do the right thing and step down at season end so everyone walks away with dignity. I also think there is a good chance to win 5 games. The team that played USC can potentially beat Neb and Wiscy If that’s the case you have a better chance to recruit a new coach. Coming into a 5 win team is easier than 1-11 rebuild. They can keep donors/ investors interested because if Schiano wins 5 with the current roster a new coach with more NIL can quickly get to 7-8 wins. Last maybe keep the key players that are worth keeping instead of everyone jumping ship. They’d see that with some upgrades it may be a quick turnaround with a new HC.

curious here, what is worse
-we're finishing last or 2nd to last as if there is a difference
-fans are not showing up, we'll lose more the longer this goes on
-media laughingstock with nothing to point towards down the road
-loss of donations and future fan attendance dollars
-recruits although one could argue the hs model is dead
realistically, what is worse?

Well, my point being if he suddenly wins a couple then maybe fans will show up just for the very least of being able to see a decent game that they’ve already committed money to as a season ticket holder. Versus an outright protest that just makes everybody feel terrible.

Not defending him, but Greg was hired for a certain length of time and extended after that , so if you want to be honorable give him what was agreed on and not use his friends and those working under him as leverage to take less than agreed on.
Rutgers made a business decision when they hired Schiano , Greg will be making a business decision when he discussed the buyout with Zinn .
Hurting the slightest chance for the program to succeed with him at the helm because Schiano demands to be paid what his contract calls for will be like cutting your nose off because you're tired of having a runny nose

Though not allowing Greg to name his assistants sounds good, I just wonder if when looking for Schiano's replacement the people Keli wants holds that against her, feeling she in an effort to get rid of her HC intentional hurt his chances to start winning and wonder if she'd do the same to them

Also qualified candidates to replace Greg might look at Rutgers, if RU acted like you suggested, in a WTF manner and feel a program willing to destroy itself from within to get rid of its HC might not be the type of program you can count on to honor any agreement they make with them of the wins don't come fast enough .

What's been said many x is wrong. It definitely gives you a leg up. There is a reason coaches have agents, and this is one of them. Just look at LSU last year. They fired Kelly and were immediately talking to Kffen who was in the middle of a chase for a national championship.

The situation is already dire. We lost to Umass and BCU. Our lone win is against Howard. Schiano has been giving us pure garbage. 2-10 is no worse than 3-9. It's all loser stuff.

It's business with millions at stake. Leverage is always a part of that. He used his leverage to get an absurd contract when no one outside of Rutgers would even consider hiring him. The school has the right the to do the same thing when he's failing performance. Yes, he has a contract and we are obligated to pay him per that contract. However, we aren't required to support him via NIL and revenue share. We partake in revenue share which stipulates we are allowed to directly compensate athletes up to $20.4MM. Note athletes, not football players. Keli could say, we don't believe in you anymore. We don't have the funds for the current payout, so we we've decided to limit your NIL/rev share number to near 0. We understand that will limit your effectiveness as a coach. Given that, we are open to a lump sum negotiated buy out that is more palatable to the department and university as a whole.

Again, it's a power move, but Schiano's utter failure combined with Hobbs' idiotic extension has put Keli, the dept., and the entire school in a bad situation. If Schiano doesn't want to play ball, then make him play ball.

As to the next coach, you can explain how it was an inherited terrible situation and the rev share/NIL will codified in their contract so that won't be possible to replicate again.

I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand.
Obviously nobody is being hired mid-season to "save" the season.

But if the decision has been made, making it official sooner than later allowes Zinn to "openly" recruit (through agents and back channels).

Also gives the okay for coaches to contact Rutgers (through agents and back channels).

And before someone says "Zinn can do that anyway without firing Schiano" - what happens when it comes out that Zinn was doing that?
Schiano is immediately asked about it the next presser.
So much for the "dire situation" that is being avoided.

Exactly. This isn't rocket science. Keeping Schiano on while back channeling his replacement is more underhanded than trying to get a better buy out. There is precedence. Buy outs are often negotiated on some level or another, usually through mitigation. That won't work with Schiano. No one is hiring him after this failure. Not anyone with money. Our sit in fans were the only people on the planet dumb enough to do that.

-The team has already fallen apart.
-Donors/Sponsors are not going to throw good money after bad, they will no longer support Schiano and will be waiting to see who replaces him, so no reason not to start the process right away, you may get lucky and find someone quickly.
-The Momos who are now saying there is still a chance to win 5 games are the same people saying we could be Indiana last week. It is not happening.

I hear you but not sure that is going to happen in fact, I think just the opposite. There is no benefit to going to a game now, zero as the view is we stink, will lose etc etc.. Only the diehards will go and that is not enough to keep the lights on.

Since Schiano doesn't receive part or any NIL funds or revenue share you're basically saying Keli should punish the program in an effort to get rid of him over his expecting her to honor his contract.
Telling the candidates for the next RU HC she wants to interview " it was a terrible situation "might work, but realistically it show them that when things look bad Zinn has a tendency to destroy any chance of making it better.

Thoigh it might be a good hardball move, it also stands a chance to come back and bite RU in the butt when it comes to getting the candidate deemed as good replacements to feel Rutgers won't try to short change them if things look a little dark by making sure they don't get the talent they need to win in an effort to get them to leave on her terms and not what Rutger's contractually obligated to do.
She would have proven by hard-balling Schiano the way you want Zinn to do ,is that Keli is willing to weaken the program just to get rid of someone she doesn't want

What needs to be done is try to offer Schiano a high enough buyout that pays him in full at less than he would be paid by taking his biweekly payments till his contract with Rutgers has ended and not give him a platform to excuse the losses his program endures by pointing out how Zinn mage sure the program couldn't bring in the talent to turn things around because Keli effectively sabotaged his ability to sign talent to the roster and made it impossible to field a winning team.

Here's an idea !! Zinn does what you want , but uses the NIL and revenue she holds back from Schiano and builds a football field-house with that money.
Then when Greg complains he didn't get the financial support he needed to field a winning team, Keli can call him a liar by pointing out Schiano was given the field-house of his dreams and that was the money he claims not to have received 🤔😁

His contract doesn’t even require him to go through the motions of looking for something.

What we don’t know is how much interest Zinn actually has at this moment with the current field of coach candidates. If there’s nobody on the current radar that she’s interested in pursuing this issue is then a less immediate concern.

If a coach is interested in offers from other schools their agent will gather those offers. Doesn’t matter if it’s September, October, January March etc. The same negotiations are taking place regardless it’s just more public if they do it now.

Exactly would get calls for head hunters all the time proposing “offers” for me and candidatws looking to make moves all the time. Agents work back channels. It’s their job. Can’t wait for a job to “officially” open to start your search. Not how it’s done.

He and Tampa paid his buyout, no? If so, he honored his contract.

Listen, I was just as pissed when he left when he did, but I doubt we'd need more than two hands to count the amount of HC's in FBS that would turn down a HC job in the NFL when it comes calling.

And it's not his fault that Pernetti hired Flood to replace him.

That’s interesting. Maybe it will come to that.
But then don’t we theoretically also lose revenue when nobody comes to watch the games if he plays hard ball?

As I said before, she’s in a tough situation. That’s why I said as much as everyone wants him gone even at this point I still think for her it’d be way easier if he pulled a miracle and rattled off a bunch of unlikely wins. No way of knowing but it seems as if she’s maybe waiting to pull the plug until the point when the chance of this happening finally hits zero (7th loss?). Maybe she figures a couple more weeks isn’t hurting that much so maybe it’s worth seeing if somehow the bleeding can stop.
Could be absolutely fantastic seasons for MBB and WBB and other teams if football funding went to other sports. Then there can be a renewed focus on football once Rutgers hires a new coach.
