Here is my take. I believe that a deal has been worked out, and Greg knows he will be gone after the last game. Both sides have worked it out and agreed to keep it quiet for now.

The only problem with that is if a team fire their coach mid season, they will have a jump on us in hiring a new coach
Lol he got an F for the year as far as being graded at the end. Guy is not going 5-2 in his last 7 games to save his hide.Makes zero sense on so many levels. Do you really think GS agreed to take a pay out? He's managing this season. Will be graded at the end. We are not bowl bound so can hire at will post season before the bowls.
The path to 5-2:Lol he got an F for the year as far as being graded at the end. Guy is not going 5-2 in his last 7 games to save his hide.
We are NOT beating Northwestern, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan or Penn State. I don’t even like the fact that we’re off this week before playing Maryland. I wish we were playing them as early as Thursday. The path to 5-2:
1. Beat Maryland- win probability- greater than 50%
2. Northwestern-probable loss
3. Michigan- probable upset win as long as al does not put them on upset alert!
4. Wisconsin- 50/50 chance of winning, call this a loss 2-2
5. Nebraska- Rutgers wins this one 3-2
6. Penn State- 50/50 chance of winning-call this a win 4-2
7. Michigan State- Rutgers wins 5-2

Maybe. But remember, as much as fans want him out immediately based on the 1-4 start, shelling out that money in 2026 was the last thing Zinn wanted. The NJ.com article spells it out very clearly. The number would go down significantly after next season when factoring in assistants, etc. For this reason - it seems possible that he was told a couple weeks ago that he’s gone if he fails to get to 6-6 (or whatever record Kelly feels would be respectable enough to postpone it another year). Unfortunately, it’s getting less and less likely each game that he could attain whatever that number could be. So maybe then, she decides to just pull the plug early. Here is my take. Maryland and Sparty we can win, the rest of the games I'm writing in L's in Sharpie. 3-9 at best and Schiano sent to Shady Acres Retirement Home.We are NOT beating Northwestern, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan or Penn State. I don’t even like the fact that we’re off this week before playing Maryland. I wish we were playing them as early as Thursday.
I totally agree with this. He knows no one is buying what he is selling anymore.IMHO his recent pressors, both post game and during the week, Greg has both looked and sounded like someone who knows it’s over.
Said the same thing last year. The man was defeated. Had no juice.IMHO his recent pressors, both post game and during the week, Greg has both looked and sounded like someone who knows it’s over.
If you watch his body language and repetition of phrases and self-contradiction, post-Indiana, I agree:IMHO his recent pressors, both post game and during the week, Greg has both looked and sounded like someone who knows it’s over.
Last year or last week? Because the last couple weeks I have never seen him look or sound like this. Ever.Said the same thing last year. The man was defeated. Had no juice.
If he salvages 5-2 out of this, I will wonder WTF happened in the first 2 games. 4 of these teams have QBs that can run, which guarantees losses unless either the requisite amount of violence is brought forth or the light bulb comes on for the defensive coaches. This stretch has the look of a walrus swimming into a boat motor. The path to 5-2:

Last year. He looked beat up many times. Brought up a couple of times in the in game threads. How he wasn’t interacting and aloof on the sidelines. Agreed this year he doesn’t have an answer and knows he’s not getting it done. He can’t get away with his typical mantras anymoreLast year or last week? Because the last couple weeks I have never seen him look or sound like this. Ever.
BTW - I don’t think we keep it anywhere close against Northwestern, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Michigan probably figures things out by then. - which means using their quarterbacks legs more - and Penn State, well, Greg figures out a way to lose that game in the second half is my best guess.
Someone keeps coming into my work area and posting from my computer! agree, that is why I think that something is already worked out for him to graciously step away at the end of the year with a big payday.IMHO his recent pressors, both post game and during the week, Greg has both looked and sounded like someone who knows it’s over.
We’ll be lucky if he goes 2-5 in the last 7 games.Lol he got an F for the year as far as being graded at the end. Guy is not going 5-2 in his last 7 games to save his hide.
The team was horribly unprepared for the first two games, or the team is bipolar. The team was fairly functional against USC. If THAT team can show up for 3 or 4 games on the schedule, namely, Maryland, Michigan State and perhaps Nebraska, Penn State and a demoralized Michigan, they have a puncher's chance in that order. No, not all of them, but 3 or 4 of them.LOL. We could not beat UMASS and BC. No chance we will win any games except for maybe Maryland.
Said it in another thread (I think) but there is a nuclear option. The dept. is under no obligation to fund the football team to the maximum level it can. Keli informs Greg that she doesn't believe in him moving forward based on performance and is slashing his rev share/NIL directing it elsewhere. This will force transfers and inability to bring in close to quality players, fast tracking what we all know is the destination.Maybe. I guess my point is - folks are losing site of the fact that as unlikely as it may be, she probably has been rooting for him to salvage the terrible start. We really don’t have this money to spend and it will absolutely set us back further financially. She’s in a bad situation for sure.
In the last 7 years, Schiano hasn’t been able to win a single punchers chance game. It is not going to suddenly start happening, certainly not with this team. The team was horribly unprepared for the first two games, or the team is bipolar. The team was fairly functional against USC. Or, they can negotiate a settlement that is amenable to both him and the university saving him more disgrace, along with the university money, thus allowing the program to move forward in a responsible way.
It's a hardball move, but Greg has put himself in this position. Simply put, he blew it. He's not even competing at this point.

there's a small flickering flame of optimism burning deep inside of me. . . . . .Hey KS, make mine a double!
If he plays hardball play hardball back. Gut his support. Get rid of the army he’s been gifted. Dont renew other coaches whose contracts are expiring and cut his NIL and rev share to the point he can barely field a team. Force him to continue losing. Only bigger. One year of that will more than pay for his buyout. Or be what he’s long purported himself to be. An honorable man.Anyone thinking Greg will accept less than a 100% of his buyout money might just be fooling themselves.
Schiano's chances of getting a College HC position is nil.
As for a high paying DC spot, I doubt he's considered a good candidate anymore since his RU D has stunk for awhile and his last year as the Buckeyes DC was underwhelming.
He milked the Tampa buyout until he landed the OSU co DC with one year left in buyout and he probably knew that if he didn't find a good position before the money dried up, he might not find anything like what Urban was offering .
Greg Schiano won't commit to taking less than 100% unless he knows a good paying position is waiting out there for him
I can't see any P-4 program willing to pay the bucks and commit to the years he wants for Schiano top take one cent less than he's owed.
The only way he'd take less in a one time payout for more than half of what he's owed , so he doesn't have to get paid bi weekly unril the contract was due to expire.
But the best reason he won't accept less is Schiano's buyout dies not not required him to pursue other employment. .
Greg's contract includes a mitigation clause where the buyout is offset by any football coaching contract he signs in the future.
So he has more incentive to stay out of the coaching ranks then he does to coach while collecting RU buyout money.
Nebraska is 5-0 (2-0 in the B1G) and averaging 43 points a game. They will easily hang 40+ on this pathetic Rutgers defense. The path to 5-2:

Is this suppose to imply that donors like Brown and Towers still want to keep GS and he won’t be let go even with a poor record? She's not in command of the department until he leaves
She's not in command of the department because she's beholden to other people with more power
When and AD cannot make the changes necessary for the betterment of the program, it's a dead program
I'm beginning to believe we don't belong in the BIG. The longer he stays, the more this is reinforced for a multitude of reasons
Nebraska: beat two MAC teams, Ohio and Bowling Green (1-4), Missouri Valley Powerhouse North Dakota and fellow B1G basement dwellers Michigan State and Maryland. Woopty Doo. Let's see how they fare against Indiana, Oregon and Illinois before proclaiming them world beaters.Nebraska is 5-0 (2-0 in the B1G) and averaging 43 points a game. They will easily hang 40+ on this pathetic Rutgers defense.
